  1. Hi everyone, I am new to RWG and though I could write something about this special watch that was produced in a very limited number with the approval from Rolex. Since it is related to Rolex I thought I post it in the Rolex area. Hope this is ok. I recently obtained this Telda Paul Newman Daytona Chronograph Replica and wanted to share some pictures and information with the forum. Based on some research I found the following interesting information: Telda is a brand of the Swiss manufacturer "Les Fils d'Armand Nicolet, Manufacture des Montres Telda S.à.r.L" By courtesy of Rolex, Telda has produced a limited edition of 300 pieces of the Paul Newman Chronograph in the 90's (prior to the hype of the PN Daytona). So there are less of these than the original, which makes them interesting to collect The watch has the same dimensions as the original with an automatic movement ETA 2824 with Chronomodule by Dubois Dépraz The dial is very similar to the original with the difference of the two hour and minutes counters being switched There are different versions of this watch with a white dial and with the steel tachymeter bezel instead of the black bakelite Given the rising popularity of the original Paul Newman Daytona's Rolex requested Telda to replace the red "Chronographe" wording above the seconds counter with "Replica", as seen on my example I am keen to hear if other members have any additional information to this watch, as there is very limited information available. Enjoy!

  2. Good day to everybody, this is my first post on any kind of forum, I've got the age now where I've not the energy to play sports any more, chase women or anything else that gets me out of the house, the time has come to start a hobby to keep me out of trouble, I love watches but like a large % of people don't have the cash available to purchase genuine timepieces, I am considering collecting reps to start with and see where it takes me, I'm not going to ask where to buy from I can see it's frowned upon and to be honest I think ifinding TD's myself will help me using the forum going forward, so here goes, wish me luck !

  3. As you all know I don't do datejust II. However, I bought a cheap one from the sales section several months ago. I decided to make some changes, mainly a gen dial. I wanted to see what works and what doesn't. I bought a gen champagne dial and much to my surprise the feet fit the holes in the movement and lined up perfectly with date wheel. I have no idea which movement this is, it resembles the old dg movement. It is a slow beat. I used some hands I had in my box and they don't look to bad. I had to broach the hour hand and cut the end off a bit. The minute hand is pretty good, but the lume is slightly longer than the gen. Over all, I think it looks pretty good. I polished the bezel, even though I try to avoid that, and it looks really good. 1 question. Does anyone know what movement this is?

  4. As Sogeha said. Some dealers will ship from inside the EU so customs is easier, some will accept Paypal some won't etc etc. All can get the same watch though. Choose the TD whom best serves your needs.

  6. I've had a close look and while the watch is an ok rep the bracelet is a mile out. Long, long way from super rep.

  7. Rolex crystals are probably clearer when new than replacements, whether or not it's worth 125 USD difference is up to you. I will say a genuine "Top Hat" Crystal for the 1680 is outstanding. None of the replacement or aftermarket crystals can come close to it. The "Black hole" is not relevant to the older non AR Crystals. They don't have any "Black hole" effect. The "Black hole" is a phenomenal of the later sapphire crystals like the one on the 116710 GMT IIC. These crystals had no AR on the crystal overall, except for the area under the cyclops. When you turn the watch in certain ways, the cyclops blacks out, thus the "Black hole. Much easier to read the date as the AR cuts down the reflections. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  8. I happened to call into my tame AD today and he let me handle the grape, grey and blue. He didn't have the green. Two things, first the SEL fit is absolutely perfect on the gen and it doesn't look like that on the pictures of the rep as @themannier pointed out. Second, I know the display lighting helps a lot, but all the high end gens have a real jewel like finish. I'm still tempted by the reps, but I would find a strap in calf or lizard that matched the dial colour. Is it a girl's watch? I really don't care. 34mm used to be a large size man's watch and 39mm was the town clock not so long ago.

  11. Very late to the thread as well, but I believe the point here is to visually illustrate how far reps have come over the past few years. From the days of Rolex Day/Dates with Quartz movements, no lume, 1x cyclops mag and gold plating that you could almost rub off with your shirttail, to this beautiful example that is so close to the genuine that almost half the guys here picked the rep as the gen. Absolutely amazing progress over the years. And what makes it more amazing is the price difference. A franken like this one that is virtually indistinguishable from the real McCoy for 20-25% of the gen. And as automatico stated, there is in the gen, the inevitable budget busting service and repairs. The franken movement on the other hand can be replaced every 5 years with a brand new ETA movement for less than half the cost of a movement service. Thanks legend for a great thread. 13. I'll rework the pushers to get closer to this. I need to create a bevel. Funny how you need to do things first to notice more details....

  16. You are correct. It has a dial spacer. The feet on the gen dial barely catch the mainplate when installed and using that spacer.
