I have been a self employed watch maker for 45 years. All of my interests revolve around watches and watchmaking.I collect Omega and Girard Perregaux watches from the sixties and I have a large collection of watchmakers tools.I operate a postal watch service and will repair or restore any watch-this means any watch at all-I am constantly irritated by people who contact me and ask if I can repair their watch -the answer is always yes.

  1. In the past 3 months I have been servicing on average one 7750 movement a day.The quality varies from extremely good to absolutely dire,in its worst form the wheels and pivots are blue and therefore very soft-the mainsprings are too short- the winding wheels are too soft-and the pivots on the auto drive wheel are too small-The better quality are made with hardened steel and the only problem they present is that the seconds hand was put on under pressure when manufactured-they are very hard to remove and paper thin-when reassembling movement they most allways cannot be tightened and should be replaced-I have been unable to obtain correct hands for several watches-so I have a problem wether to alter the appearance of watch with another secs hand or fit the original back knowing that it most probably fail. This movement is one of the most difficult to service and is the only movement that I find challenging .Watchmaker Michael
  2. watch and case were made in switzerland around about 1890 -it has a cylinder movement-it is quite rare to find a watch of this kind that actually works as most of them have been damaged in the past -the hands are the original and extremely well made-if I were selling this watch I would be asking
  3. I can give youy a quote for restoration of your omega if you send to me-regards Michael .
  4. I can do anything regards watches-but i cannot set the video- can lume -regards Michael
  5. [i usually repair the watch quicker than responding to emails-jobs usually take 10 days to turn around-special glasses and dial restores etc. take a bit longer-I do not sit on jobs as I like to earn -regards Michael
  6. remove the lume by using a sharpened matchstick- wood will not damage the surface under the luminous compound--regards watchmakermichael
  7. [Thank you for your comments -I will explore further the idea that someone can come and remove from my premises items that do not belong to me and are being repaired -I do not know what authority they would have-I will put this scenario to my legal advisors and will let you know the results-as far as I am concerned no one opens my safe but me-any attempt to do so will be met with a refusal to give the safe combination -this is England after all not East Germany in the 1950's watchmakermichael
  8. why is it advisable to remove my address ?I am a watchmaker and I repair any watch, when Rolex learnt that I was repairing Copy watches I informed them that if they paid my mortgage I would stop repairing replicas, needless to say I am still paying my mortage myself and still repairing any watch which i am given. watchmakermichael
  9. Hi -I have been advised by one of this sites ardent fans to join this forum,as I may be able to pick up a bit of work,I have been a self employed wachmaker for 46 years.I repair and restore any watch -from gold Patek chronos to replica Rolex.I am constantly amazed by the knowledge that a large number of people have about watches.I have an interest outside of my working hours in that I collect Girard Perregaux and Omegas from the sixties-I served an apprenticeship with girard perry and worked for Omega as a watchmaker, but my knowledge of some of the wathces currently available is minimal in comparison to some of the contributors to this forum. watchmakermichael
