  1. To everyone who replied, I am humbled by the love that you have shown my father and my family.

Sadly I will be away from this phone for the foreseeable future, so this may be the last Nanuq post you’ll see

It guts me to even say those words
Moving in in life seems inappropriate.

How do you return to work after losing a man like him. A couple times a day it will just hit me that he’s gone, and I feel a deep ache in my heart all the time

But he wouldn’t have it any other way than for me to move on and enjoy life. So that’s what I’m going to do

In the future I plan on making an account here just to get to know my dads friends better

Please know I read and cherish every single response, and there so many beautiful things here

My dad was larger than life, and had a giants soul. I know I’ll see him in about 30-50 years assuming that my life plays out in the averages :)

But I’m sure going to miss him

My dad loved you guys dearly, thank you for loving him back

  2. To everyone who wrote condolences, thank you so much!

Your words have made a tough time for our family easier to bare.

My mom has shed a few tears knowing that people on the forums cared so deeply for Bob

And it does not surprise me at all to hear so many people speak highly of him

My dad was a phenomenal man, and I’m glad you all were there in his life

  3. Hello all. My name is David, I’m Nanuqs son.

He told me a lot about his friends on the watch forum, so I thought it would be appropriate to post this here

Unfortunately Bob passed away on Monday due to complications from heart failure.

He loved this group, or all of the forums he was a part of, and I’m going to post this on all the watch forums he has on his Tapatalk app

My Dad was an incredible man, and watches and watch collecting was probably his favorite hobby.

I’m currently wearing one that he made for me, probably with help from people here default_smile.png

Bob did not suffer in the end, and his passing was peaceful and surrounded by loved ones.

I just wanted to let his possible friends know that they were appreciated, and I didn’t want people to wonder why he went radio silent

Thank you guys for being his friends. It’s brings me and my family a lot of comfort

Thank you all for your words. I’ve read them all, and it makes my family so happy to know that he had so many great friends

We are just so sad, but we know he’s in a better place, and that’s not some pathetic platitude.

He’s there, and some day I’ll see him again!
Davd I am so very very sad for you and your family.

You know your Dad came over to stay with us in the UK and we raced at the TT in the IOM with Stuart. That was six years ago and Bob became a dear friend of ours.

He is in our thoughts and minds as are you and your family.

We have phoots of the adventure and I will try to find them to share.

Deepest condolences and love to you all. What an amazing guy, 'Hell Yeah'

  5. Hear, hear.  Decades ago I opened a brand new shrink-wrapped "Master" edition of Dark Side of the Moon, de-static'd everything and made a copy from my high end turntable and cartridge onto a (at the time) cutting edge Denon cassette deck with a Maxell "Metal" tape.

That recording is still, after all these years, head and shoulders better than any digital copy I've heard.  It's aethereal  ...  something they have yet to capture in bits and bytes.

  6. +1000 hear, hear!

Then let’s visit any of the UK’s sites for Series Land Rovers. We call them “rivet counters”, the people so obsessed with from-the-factory perfection that no detail is beneath mention. And guess how many of them have aftermarket galvanized chassis? They are widely accepted because it’s disclosed as a good thing.

Meanwhile “perfect, unpolished” cases pass on TRF and VRF as genuine and original when the entire vintage community knows they’ve been laser welded and restored, and they all look the other way. Because the vintage heavyweights with more influence and money than God himself, have deemed them “genuine”.

It’s all lies, stoking extremely overinflated egos. Nothing more. And at the end of the day, it’s just a bloody wristwatch.

  7. Oh, not to diminish your efforts in any way, your result is fantastic!! Knowing your attention to detail, I figured you’re like me, get the piece to a “finished v1.0” state then wear it, all the while thinking of what comes with v2.0

I’ve thought of taking Adrian’s crown and scribing lines on the inner surface to mimic the “steel folded over brass” look. That wouldn’t require retapping and it’s really the only thing that makes it look unlike the original.

  8. Ole and Sven died and woke up in Hell. The next day the devil stopped in to check on them and sees them dressed in parkas, mittens and bomber hats warming themselves around the fire.

The devil asks them, “What are you doing? Isn’t it hot enough? for you?”

Ole and Sven reply, “Vell, ya know, ve’re from nordern Minnesoda, de land of de snow und ice und cold dontcha know. Ve’re yust happy for a chance to varm up a little bit, ya know.”

The devil decides that these two aren’t miserable enough and turns up the heat. The next morning he stops in again and there they are, still dressed in parkas, hats and mittens.

The devil asks them again, “Its awfully hot down here, can’t you guys feel that?”

Again, Ole and Sven reply, “Vell, like ve told you yisterdy, ve’re from nordern Minnesoda, de land of de snow and ice and cold.  Ve’re yust happy for a chance to varm up a little bit, ya know.”

This gets the devil a little steamed up and he decides to fix these two guys.  He cranks the heat up as high as it will go. The people are wailing and screaming every where. He stops by the room with the two guys from Minnesoda and finds them in light jackets and hats, grilling walleye and drinking beer.

The devil is astonished, “Everyone down here is in agony, and you two seem to be enjoying yourself.”

The two Minnesodans reply, “Vell, ya know, ve don’t get too much varm vedder up dere in da International Falls, so ve yust GOT to have a fish fry vhen the vedder's dis nice.”

The devil is absolutely furious, he can hardly see straight. Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been cold all their lives.  So he decides to turn all the heat off in Hell.  That'll show them misery.  The next morning, the temperature is below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere, people are shivering so bad that they are unable to wail, moan and gnash their teeth.  The devil smiles and heads for the room with the two Minnesodans. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, bomber hats, and mittens. They are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men.

The devil is dumbfounded, “I don’t understand, when I turn up the heat you’re happy. Now its freezing cold and you’re still happy. What is wrong with you two?”

Ole and Sven look at the devil in surprise, “Vell, don’tcha know, if Hell has froze over dat must mean only vun ting.  It means da Vikings haff vun da Super Bowl!!”
