  1. Yes many people just think rubber is rubber and that's it. Most rubbers have sulfer in the, needed to cure but also zinc oxide to cure. There are many more additives that are harmfull but who would test these for a rubber strap ? For baby stuff things are tested more. There is aslo rubber with special formulation for contact with food. Now I don't know if gen supplier that sell rubber straps test for these thing or if they just buy them from a source and the is it. I would not wear a rubber strap, specially in summer when it gets hot and additives could migrate easier into your body. http://www.dermnetnz.org/dermatitis/rubber...nt-allergy.html a link with some info
  2. Sure but do you want to wear that rubber. I do some work on rubber formula's and i can tell you 1 thing. Rubber is not always rubber. There are many additives that are harmfull to your body. Normally rubber has plasticizers in them, DOP is a common one (cheap) but is not good for your health. Rubber have accellerators in them and most set free nitrosamines that are to cause cancer. Low nitrosamine rubber like being used in baby stuff is more expensive. Since a rubber strap is always in contact with your skin you will get migration of these additives into your skin. Although you will not die from them some rubbers are not good for you.
  3. http://www.timezone.com/library/horologium...675591245315012 is a nice link to timezone and a rolex movement review. Well the quality, meaning finish of rolex seems to be very poor according to Walt Odet that wrote the review. One of his conclusions is very interesting: The anomalies of the Rolex Explorer make it difficult to neatly summarize a personal opinion. For me, the only intriguing aspect of this watch is that a movement so lacking is basic workmanship is capable of being so accurately timed. This is, no doubt, a product of the thickness (and thus permissible loose tolerances) of the movement, and the use of computer-timed balance/spring assemblies. The rest of his conclusions are also very hard on rolex.
  4. Loook at it this way, when you buy ETA you buy from a swiss owned company that has developed their movements with swiss knowledge. So the technology in the watch is swiss. Yes manufacturing can be done outside swiss but you can rest assured that ETA has a name to keep up and that they will not sell inferiour products. When you buy a BMW X5 this is made in the USA an shipped backed to europe. Are you buying a USA made car yes, but you are buying a BMW and BMW stands for a german developed car having german quality. The watch industry is all about marketing a swiss made is very carefull in keeping up this name as using this name still allows them to charge a premium price, sometime to high price for their products. Sure seiko makes some nice movements and quality could for some movements be better than some ETA movements. But Seike will alway have the name made in Japan and made in Japan means that they cannot have a premium price like swiss made. Watches the more expensive ones it's all about lifestyle and showing that you have swiss made shows that you have money. It's not about the quality it's about lifestyle and when talking lifestyle in most cases you are overpaying for what you are getting. Back to the dealers here, I would not care if I got a thai, swiss, chinees made ETa movement as long as it is made in an ETA factory or a licensed ETA factory. Dealer here can use ETA as a reference. In case we are talking about an chineese copy, meaning unlicensed yes they should tell this. If they are telling this it's up to their business ethics.
  5. what's the problem we are talking rep here not the real deal. Now lets see in real life. You buy a dodge in europa and this one has a vw diesel engine. Should dodge say we sell cars having a vw engine. Eveyone knows but they are not telling you. You buy a dell laptop which dell does not make but is made in an oem plant that also makes laptops under their own name. Is the quality of these laptops less that the original dell ? Eta had been able to keep up their brand name. Swiss sell their watches as something unique, hand made, swiss made, non-electronic. Fact is they produce millions of movements and this is just an industrial process. Yes some brand refine the movements but lots just use standard movement. Hence some swiss made watches will probably use asia made eta movement. You are buying a watch which is rep watch but more important it's a lifestyle or image. Sure you can buy watches just because they use a certain movement but we are talking high prices here. Should a dealer mention swiss made eta or asian made eta, no they should not. Should a dealer mention eta made or subcontractor made, no if it is a licensed subcontractor. If a watch is using a non licensed subcontractor you are talking about a copy of the movement and yes they should mention this. The do mention is for the 7750 which is copy. In reals life when you buy a cpu for example this can be made in any of the intel factories worldwide. To overclockers it is know that some factories have better quality and can be overclocked better. Can you demand from your cpu supplier that you only want to have a cpu from this or that factory. NO you cannot. There are dozen of examples from products you buy that use parts from different sub-contractors. Nowhere they mention we use this or that sub contractor and this should not be important.
  6. Maybe you can say it goes 2 ways. You will keep the cheap $10 lolex watch but another group is the rep collector that want to pay more for quality. If you are paying $200-$300 dollar you do expect some quality. Movement should work for years and not for some month's. You expect some accuracy on the watch. Yes you will still be paying 1/10 of the price compared to a gen but more and more people want to pay more for a good quality rep. But their is a limit to what people want to pay for a rep. Gen like breitling are sometimes sold in asia at 30-40% discounts. So a $3000 watch could be bout around $1600-2000 Now would you buy a rep at a price of $700 ? Some might do but not to many. I think that the maximum price for a good rep should not be higher than $400 which is still acceptable to many people.
  7. How many peopel really know anything about watches. For most people Rolex is the most know brand but when you show them a patek or some other small brand they don't even know what it is. Are you really [censored] when someone is saying this. Maybe this statement is saying I don't know a [censored] about watches and I don't like you, so to [censored] you off you just tell het guy he is wearing a rep. Also I will depend what kind of gen watch you are wearing. Rolex altough expensive is "in my eyes" a brand that people buy to show off, I have money and can afford an expensive watch. So telling most off these guys the are wearing a rep is really bad for them as they like to show of their gold gen rolex. A Petek can be more expensive but it is not a watch to show you have money, meaning most normal people don't even know the brand or it's price (sure here on this board most do but in normal life most don't). People that buy a patek are different and telling them they have a rep will probably make them laugh as for most of them they don't buy the watch to show off and it's not for their ego.
  8. The is a thread here about why a 100% rep is not avialbalbe for example on the submariner models. On thing said is that whenever a new version of an existing model is made there are improvements on 1 side but the next say 5 version seems to have other flaws that were ok in the 4th version. This way as is said they are trying to get business for people that wnat the newest generation. Would this also apply to this watch here ? The question is really why are they not making a 99.5% good rep in the first place or is it juist about keeping business going.
  9. rwg is a great place for reps and discussions about them. As a biginner although you are not allowed to have comments or critize to much. Some around here seem to have a very close relation and when you critize 1 you will get the rest over you, including a moderator. Luckily there are others that are more relaxed to compensate for some of those arrogant ones that think beginners should not be allowed to critize. illwright what you are saying once you are longer on a board you become on off those that does not like beginners questions and give short sometimes answer like use search. Selfreflection is something that more people should do, but that is a personality issue that is difficult for lost of people. You were honest enough to tell your story and hopefully you treat beginners on the board your are active on differently now, knowing that you are one here. All in all lots of information here.
  10. If he got his answer and your a mod "your the man here" close this thread.
  11. http://perfect-clones.com/ap10008-jules-au...8922-p-634.html A watch on perfect clones is listed for $228 Now the question is, if the movement is $254 how can perfect-clones offer a complete watch for $228
  12. How I understood it you need a watch of at leeast 10atm tested to go swim. 3 atm normal for may watches can be used in the shower. But most people forget altough 3 atm should be 30 meter under water even when you are at 1 meter under water and move your arm wildly you are creating much more pressure on the watch. So a true diver you would need at least 10 atm resistance or even better 20 or 30 atm. As for the rep, even at the mumbers they are making it should not really cost that much more to use some good sealing to make the watch more waterresistant. Sinn on the other hand has some nice watches with a build in moisture absorbing module. This can be helpfull because when the watch is made and the case is closed it does contain some amount of air which does contain water. When the temperature gets colder and you watch gets colder this water could condensate, the sinn module prevents this.
  13. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=15581 look at the 2 last images, booth dates are on 21 both are green bezel version 1 original otherone rep. There is a difference.
  14. How about the new 28800 bps asian 7750 are they really better than the old ones ? What are your experiences with this new movement.
  15. I ordered one from TTK last week. By-Thor has written a review on this watch and looking at the price it's a very good buy. I read somewhere that in case the asian 21j fails you can always swap it for an ETA. I tried wo-mart first but, asked some questions by email, which was 2 weeks ago, and did not have an answer till nw. TTK seems good from what I read here. Placed the order apyed and am waiting for delivery now. I don't know if he sents me another mail saying it has shipped as I did not hear anything after the payment.
