    Fine looking MG!   :good:

"two domed crystals ( very similar to my original 6538 crystal)  but these have a metal retaining ring on the inside edge.  Did not fit the case with the ring installed,   removed the ring and the crystal fit the case.   slightly smaller on the outside diameter so bezel is not a snug fit.  Added some dial dots for extra security and it seems good.....might replace the dial dots with clear silicone."

Using G-S crystal nomenclature...the type of crystal above with a 'tension ring' is a G-S  ET type.  They are made to be pressed into crystal seats in cases using a crystal with an OD about .01mm (+/-) larger than the ID of the crystal seat in the case.  Many are also used as you did without the tension ring on projects etc.  The main difference between an ET type crystal and a PA type (like used on a vintage Rolex) is the ET has a thinned down area at the bottom edge of the 'skirt' where the tension ring fits and the PA type has a straight sidewall with no relief cut at the bottom.

Sometimes you can go up or down one size on an ET type crystal and find a pretty good fit.  The main drawback is the area where they are machined for the tension ring is pretty thin and the crystal skirt may crack when the bezel is pressed down over it.
One other option is using a G-S  DT (Diver Tite) double thick tension ring type crystal, they are thicker overall but they do not come in as many sizes as ET crystals, and few supply houses stock many of them.

    The 'gap obsession'...
I know what you mean about 'the gap' around the outside of the dial.  I did a '5512' project a few years back using a DW case, 1570, and Yuki dial.  The case was made for 26.5mm dials so there was a very small gap around the OD of the dial and only the dial foot screws were holding the dial down.  I made a very thin spacer out of aluminum to fill the gap and felt better about it...until I read later that a few of the earliest 5512 watches had the gap because they were using leftover dials with a smaller diameter than needed.  Ha!

Also did a '5513' project with the same case and spacer but it bothered me too.  Now the empty case is back in the project box, maybe to be used in a '1680' project later.

Speaking of 'the gap',..here is an example of an early 5512 with the gap and without the SCOC blurb that came later...

Rolex Submariner Eagle Beak Tropical Dial Ref. 5512 - Rolex Passion Market

I love that dial and have had it saved for a few years on my hard drive. I would love a fake of that

  2. AFAIK all Noobmariners had a Miyota clone movement. It isn't at all difficult to get a movement from Cousins, Ebay or Aliexpress. Fitting it is straightforward for anyone that has some little knowledge. Some watchmakers will not work on reps. There is Adrian, but I don't know how busy he is and currently can't remember his username

    @kernow a little help

  3. Welcome to the hobby. To avoid disappointment it is best to understand there is no such thing as a 1:1 copy and no recognised grading system. Buying from the dealers listed in our trusted dealers section will give you access to the best replicas available and reading on the forums will help you understand the strengths and weakness of each model

  4. David, thank you for taking the time to let us know. Bob was immensely proud of you, we talked at length about our respective families, and it a reflection of the kind of family you are that you think of others at this time of grief and loss.

The Internet has made the world a curious place. I consider so many here to be friends and Bob was top of the list. We never met, though we did have plans prior to covid. However over many years he always had my back, always was there helping and encouraging and took a genuine interest in me that went far beyond our watch hobby.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. I shall sorely miss him

    Rest in peace Minty

I have several microbrands, a Marlow from England and a Hilmar from Norway.  They both arrived by DHL in under two weeks

The Waltham from Watch Angels came via DHL, But I got continuous song and dance about covid, building the watch, crappy customer service in general. I appreciate these are difficult times but come on.

    And your point is?

European shipping of commercial goods verses shipping from China of counterfeit goods.

You are comparing apples with ladders mate

  6. I have not had any issues with Toro myself. I have helped resolve a couple for members over the years. Three months of questions on the forum has consistently told you this watch is no longer available, so it isn’t that surprising to me that it is unavailable

How does one go about having a Trusted Dealer removed from your list. Would you like photos or video? Please advise me on the steps I will need to take. Thanks

Adding or removing a dealer from the TD list is not your decision, so you don’t go about it. Acting as you have so far isn’t going to win you any friends and of course begs the question, why did Andrew lose patience with you?

  8. Then go sort your problem out on your own. Given you know so very much it is a wonder you ended up in this mess in the first place. Especially since I speak neither Mandarin nor Cantonese and have never had such an issue in many purchases

As to whining all you want, feel free, I’m actively moderating your content and will not permit any more unsubstantiated allegations

  9. I have bought from Andrew many times, as have others here. Had your reading taken on board the information here, you would know that being a member of this forum before purchasing would give you the ability to have us negotiate on your behalf. For reasons unknown you chose not to do that, and instead to join an hour ago to as Andrew says “whine”. As such I find my sympathy distinctly lacking, especially as you have posted without first contacting the mod team. I wonder what Andrew’s side of the story is, but not enough to give up any of my free time, as we do for genuine members here

So really your warning is by example, don’t be the person new to the hobby who does not heed the advice of those of us with many many years in it

I keep seeing 200m WR mods...but every once in a while I see one where the maker has used a dial that specifies 300m WR.

Is this done with a different gasket?  Where is a good source for cases/backs/crystals/gaskets that can be modded into a 300 meter watch?

This is one of the biggest WIS myths. If you don’t saturation dive you don’t need a 300 metre depth rating, if you do saturation dive you don’t need a 300 metre depth rating on your watch because you will be using a proper dive computer and not an obsolete piece of man jewellery

I have a PADI open water cert that covers me to an impressive 18 metres. 200 is cold and dark and unless you are very well qualified it will be small consolation to know your watch will still be ticking when they pull your cold lifeless body out. I did two seasons diving with a fake Casio bombmaker with a depth rating of zero. I still have it, it still works

Also if you open the watch, the depth rating is down to you and your greasing the seals and pressure testing

  11. @davdhaked90 Arrived on the scene and kindly let four members know his brother has the parts they are looking for just lying around. After I issued a warning for backdoor selling and hide his posts, I thought I would reach out and see what else they had.

i asked if they had a 6263 exotic dial. Very quickly he responded with pictures of exactly what I was looking for, lucky me. The pictures did all have different backgrounds, but whatever

So hardly believing my luck I asked how much he wanted for this rare genuine dial

    $2000

    LMAO

    be careful out there
