Why can't we get a good 14060 dial for current cases???

For years now, and on ALL the other rep watch fora there have been discussions about building a franken 14060. "What if we put a gen dial in a TC"? "How bout a gen dial in a BP"? "Does anyone make a good 14060 rep dial that will fit the cases we have"? It seems this has reached the elusiveness of big foot or a unicorn.

Why can't someone just make a 16610 sized TC quality 14060 dial. Base it on the KH and don't punch the date window?! Mine would have been converted years ago. I personally would have bought several already and based some builds on them. From all the posts I've read MANY others would have bought these as well and this really should be a gold mine (well, positive cash flow) for someone. Given everything already floating around (Yuki, Raffles, TC) shouldn't this be do-able? Let me know what I'm missing?

Thanks

But for what? Who would build a 14060 of a 16610 case, which is completely different, at comparably high expenses because of the high quality case?

The 14060 is smaller, thinner and lighter than a 16610. Bezel inserts, bezels, crystal, everything is different and looks different as well.

The 5512/5513 mid case is similar to a 14060 case. Try to fit a gen 14060 case back to a rep 5513 mid case with a gasket grove cut into it, add a saphire crystal with rolex-style gasket and retaining ring, which you'd probably need to have custom made. Fit a gen bezel and insert and you're there. I thought of doing that several times but never found it appealing enough to go through all this. I like the date function a lot, too.

Well thanks. I guess that's the best suggestion so far. I've never actually seen them side by side but I prefer the no date. Thought it was always just a matter of the rehaut size so it would be easiest to just to get a dial. Thanks...that opens the door to alot more research!

also had many thoughts of making a 14060 from a 16610 star time holes case and a 114060 dial with markers popped off and replaced with ones from a 16610. never followed through the more i thought about it. also asked tc a few years ago about making 14060 dials, he didnt seem too interested. a 5513 would a more accurate case to build upon, but i figure that would require several gen parts to work properly due to the 14060 being a unidirectional sapphire 5513

"The 14060 is smaller, thinner and lighter than a 16610."

"The 5512/5513 mid case is similar to a 14060 case."

Just now tried a DJ size sapphire crystal/gasket on a IG44 1680 genuine spec case...way too big as I knew it would be.  I did this only because a 16610 takes the same crystal as a DJ.

Next I tried a sapphire crystal and gasket for a 15200 OPD (286C) and it fits...a little bit loose, but not too loose.  Looks like the gasket may be thick enough to allow a 5512/13/1680 bezel to be pressed over it after making sure it will go (??).  I did not try it because this combo may need a custom bezel and I did not want to ruin a gasket.  So...a crystal/gasket combo for a no date sapphire Oys Perp/AK might fit...same as the 15200 crystal.  AK sapphire crystal p/n is 286 (28.6mm in diameter).  Someone could try this and see what's what...not me.

One catch is the gasket is low so the crystal may not sit high enough to be very far above the bezel insert.  Another is if the bezel is too small and squeezes the gasket down far enough to chip the top edge of the crystal...the gasket is thin at the top.  Besides this, there would be no notches in the bezel action, it would be like a 5512/13/1680...and you still would need a 14060 dial to fit the 5512/13/1680 case.

Q...will a crystal and gasket for a 14060 fit a 5512/13/1680 case?  A...No.  If they would fit it would make things too easy.

Catch 22:  The crystal for a 14060 is 295 (29.5mm diameter), same OD as a 295C DJ 16200 crystal but without the magnifier.  Sapphire no date explorers also use it.

So...the 14060 may be smaller than a 16610 but the crystals are the same diameter...according to a parts book.

Edit:  as postd below by chefcook, the 14060 takes a 286 crystal.  The ST listing is incorrect.

Nope. 14060 uses a 286 crystal.

Info from R20 genuine spare parts catalogue for 14060:

Crown: 24-703-0 (14060M: 24-704-0)

Tube: 24-7030-0

Crystal Gasket: 29-286-1

Case Back Gasket: 29-322-10

Crystal: 25-286

Case Back: 311-14060 (14060M: 311-2160)

Bezel Assembly (complete): 313-14060-81

Bezel inlay / disc: 315-14060-81

Bezel Washer: 316-14060-81

Click Spring: 317-14060-81

Retaining Ring: 319-14060-81

The only watch to use a Tropic 295 without date mag is the Daytona (165xx and 1165xx) and Explorer 1 (14270 / 114270). ST is not correct on this.

The 14060 and 16610 cases have exactly two parts interchangeable: Crown and tube, that's it, unfortunately.

I know... An old thread.

An even more stupid question...

Can we fit a 1680 dial into a gen 14060?

*. Would the date cut for the 1680 dial align with the 3000 movement?

* . I guess we would need to fit a date wheel to the 3000 movement.

*. Can we fit a top hat 1680 into a 14060 gen ?.

I know... Stupid...
