Dependable-Bayerische-Motoren-Werke-Person

The latest turn into the interview chair fell to me, and I couldn't think of a feistier member to interview than our very own Dependable-Bayerische-Motoren-Werke-Person. Newer members may not know him so well, but the old guard will know him well from his service selling replica cars and car modifications on the forums.

CS: Well, many thanks for taking the time to do an interview for the forum. Do you prefer 'dBMWp', 'Dependy' or plain old 'Dependable'?

dBMWp: Mr Dependable-Bayerische-Motoren-Werke-Person to you!! No - Helmut is fine.

CS: You have quite an interesting background, Helmut...

dBMWp: I'm a Sino-Peruvian German; it's a little unusual.

CS: Your parents worked at EPCOT World Showcase and had a threesome or something?! :p

dBMWp: Ha ha ha...No. I think my ancestors met during the Klondike Gold Rush. They got there too late to make money; so they went to Bavaria to be first in line when it struck gold.

CS: Bavaria had a Gold Rush?

dBMWp: No, but if they ever do we're first in line....

CS: Now your interest in replica cars. You have a background in car-making, don't you? You worked for BMW at some point?

dBMWp: Yes, that's right. It was my decision to buy Rover....

CS: And you don't work there any more?

dBMWp: No, no. Not after that.

CS: So you moved on to replica cars....

dBMWp: That's right, full time. I was already involved with them before though - I'd always wanted a real Ferrari, but couldn't afford one. Suddenly I found I could afford the next best thing:

CS: And that brought you onto the forums?

dBMWp: Yes - I was around from the beginning of the rep scene. Way before the first RWG there was a bulletin board, but a lot of people forget that there was a board before the bulletin board. It was a blackboard. You used to PM dealers by scribbling in the corner.

CS: Do you ever get nostalgic for those days?

dBMWp: In a way - it was a lot of fun in the days before e-commerce sites and so on. Felt more like you were sneaking around. On the downside, the chalk-drawn porn wasn't very good!

CS: Ha!

dBMWp: No, I'm not joking. It was really bad. This was the first GGG post:

CS: Speaking of the finer sex - how much of the interest in replica cars do you think comes down to impressing the ladies.

dBMWp: Only because it works!! They love it, man. Mufflers, carburettors. Yes, it's a big part I think that is true. Look at this photo from one of my first replicas.

pacmanbj0.jpg

Look, you see that lady is in a swim suit. She must have been swimming and thought, look at that nice car. I'm going to stop swimming and walk across the parking lot to that car. It's true - see with your own eyes.

And look at my super sports Smart car. See the pigtails? This girl has left her school room, actually put down her school books, to come see this car. Enjoy the vision!

smartinorwx3.jpg

It's a nice car, as you can see.

CS: There has been a lot of talk on the forums recently about rising replica car prices. What can you tell us about that?

dBMWp: It's true. The dollar falls, prices at the factory rise. Cost of labour in Chinese factories is going up, because now more of the genuine brand cars are made in China, the costs of making fake one go up. All the people now get jobs making real cars.

But I still get you a good deal for cheap price - look, see!!!

Hot!

And look - REAL GENUINE WOOD, NOT FAKE:

woodfd8.jpg

All great cars, for a great price.

CS: I see. One thing that I always find intriguing is how you get these cars through customs and so on.

dBMWp: Yes it's not easy. In some countries it is tough, customs take one look and say "that's not a train, it's a car!"

Now I hide cars very, very well. This is not a car, this I post as a letter:

postityh3.jpg

See, see? You can't see - but I tell you anyway. There is a car there!!! Yes, it's true!!

CS: You have had your fair share of controversy in your time. You were criticized recently for turning up on the Hyundairisti forum showing off your genuine Hyundais.

dBMWp: Yes, I have genuine cars now. I have never hidden this.

CS: But was that not in bad taste when you have members on the boards still waiting for Hyundai door handles from you?

dBMWp: Yeah, but I am sick. Very sick. Cough. See?

CS: You seem to have had a constant toil with your health over the years. What do you think brings these bouts of being 'very sick, cough' on?

dBMWp: I think Paypal cause it. I get an email from them saying the money is there, I get sick. Every time. Sometimes for months. lol

CS: Well best wishes with your health obviously. And to round things off - anything exciting to announce on the replica car front?

dBMWp: Yes! Yes! Yes! This is RWG EXCLUSIVE I give for you. First to see and hear - exciting.

This is very FIRST Toyota Prius Limousine!! Enjoy the vision!!

It's bigger, so not very fuel efficient. But it looks GOOOD!! Extra doors!!

CS: Exciting indeed. Well, thank you Helmut for taking the time for this interview.

dBMWp: Not problem. Great fun. You wanna buy Toyota Prius Limousine? It looks GOOOD!! I do good deal.....

Fantastic way to start my day.

The question people should be answering is how long it took before they realized the gag.

For me it happened somewhere between the first and second picture.

Interesting (as I used to be in the auto restoration biz), but I wish the interview had centered on watches instead of replica cars.

Very, very funny CS.

You just made 8 people in a downtown Chicago office building laugh very hard.

Now that's power!
