  1. Wow... been away for a little bit. As TT mentioned in an earlier post, life happens, and it has certainly been happening with me lately Been super busy and finally have gotten around to spending some time reading through old threads. It's saddening to see threads like this one. It wasn't that long ago that Ubi posted a similar thread. Unfortunately, it's just the nature of the forum world. It amazes me sometimes how people spend a large portion of their lives on forums only to leech information, troll and generally bring the vibe of a great community down. Of course, the flip side is when you root through the trouble makers and general pricks, there are some amazing folks to be met! Believe me, I know what it's like and it can get frustrating, but as has been mentioned, it's best just to move on and ignore it. For me, if someone who I don't know asks for input or advice about something, I will do a little research on the member. When did they join? Have they posted anything yet? Is it constructive? Are they generally polite and/or well mannered. If so, then I am happy to answer any and all questions (time permitting). If they haven't posted at all, or posted some negative/silly/stupid comments then I will tend to just ignore them. I was a noob once too and I have learned so much from so many folks around here that I like to consider friends. Thing is, I wouldn't have dared asked any of them a question in a personal PM without doing A LOT of my own research first. I think the folks around here have been so helpful towards me because I took the time to be courteous and made an effort to learn. It's not hard people. It just takes patience and time

  3. I come out where a number of other folks have. To the extent that people have gotten ruder it is symptomatic of both the times and the growth in the rep industry. If people are in society at large ruder, more abrupt and seeking instant gratification in a "me, me" environment which I think most of us would generally agree, the industry itself has also become much more of a hit and run situation. Great out of the box reps are readily available and in large volume. You just need to know where and what to buy. And the ubiquitousness of the internet makes all these facts evermore evident. Go search on your favorite watch and half the time what comes first are the reps rather than the gens. And now all the potential rep buyer has to do is show up, ask a few questions, get what he wants and move on. And it really doesn't take much more than that. There will always be too many jerks in society and with the world moving ever closer to a virtual world where no one has to take responsibility for their own actions this will only get worse not better. The challenge will always be to attract and keep those fewer folks who have a broader love of horology and at some level are looking for some comraderie.

  4. After 7 years of running a sales section straight off the forum Bergies is branching out with our own website. I and my sales rep are currently uploading goods to the site and hope to go live before the end of the Month. Inevitably there will be changes in the way we operate, the biggest being that you the customer will be buying directly from the site which means most sales will be processed with no interaction with myself or Cathy. I will always remain available to answer questions, where needed, but my aim is to try and cut down on the many hours spent answering emails. Part of the reason for this switch to website is that Cathy needs to move out of Gaungzhou to look after her young family and as Cathy has been doing all the QC pic's I'm afraid this will come to an end. All items on the site have quality photo's and all goods will be hand checked before they ship, the exact same way the business ran for the first 6 years in fact. Bergies (not the name we will be using) will still put their customers concerns first and endeavour to make sure every customer has a happy experience. It is our aim to develop the site to the point of being a one stop, professional store for all your soft good requirements and as such we see this as a big step forward for both us and you the customer. Thank you Ken

  6. Well, that sounds good. If you can spend as much as you want, go to your local Rolex dealer and buy a genuine Rolex! That is the BEST choice ever

  8. Sorry to sound rude but you should really use the search button. You're question is impossible to answer! It depends on which model you want and the budget you want to spend. I strongly recommend to read, then read, then read ...and you will make your self an opinion. Prior reading, do not buy anything!

  9. Have a look around on the forum. Try the search function! There is a dealer list, have a look there! They all sell watches with ETA movements. Just pick your model and choose the movement. There are a lot of reviews here were you can find all the info you need ;-) Good luck!

  10. Welcome aboard I guess the best eta movement is the 2892-A2 and the 2893 and 2894 are also good. But that's my opinion. Buying eta watches is just a matter of looking around, but you could be more specific also- it's a pretty vague question.

  14. Please excuse me for my strong language but I'm getting a little bit fed up with all the noobs lately. No, not because they are new and ask questions... Because they show NO courtesy. Off course I don't want to treat all noobs alike but l get the feeling it is getting worse. I (or other existing members) type, a sometimes extensive reply or explanation and not even a 'thanks' or 'thank you' will follow. Nothing..... The noob just asks questions like a mad man, want to gather all the info yesterday, wants to buy a rep like he is at WalMart, complains and bitches about the smallest details, asks mechanical help when in most cases he himself messes up a movement etc. without even the smallest regard for this board and it's members. And sometimes.... From all these noobs a valuable new member will arise who's soul purpose is not to leech this board and all it's members for what they know and have. I have seen some valuable new members the last months like MD2020 for instance and for that I applaud! And for all you other blood sucking noobs: think about the existing members that reply to you post. Without some courtesy and good manners you probably won't get any help next time you are in need.....

  15. i don't think i'm old enough to be considered a vet but i'm sure i'm definitely too old to be grouped with the n00bz so i'm with the OP in saying that manners make the man (or the woman in a rare appearance) here either way i can tell which dipshits were given time outs v/s which dumbazzes were handed spankings by their behavior on here

  16. Not sure if your being fair mate tbh, it's REALLY hard to show how your posts are intended to come across on the net, easy to type up a post with one intent in mind and someone reads it totally the wrong way I had this recently myself with another member, he got upset and started shouting the odds at me in the thread (not here I might add) , even after I sent a pm his way to state exactly my view (I agreed with his views) he still ranted on, idiot anyway life goes on ! Getting back to your view on noobs and the forum, first off I still consider myself a 'noob', just because I love watches that doesn't mean I automatically know everything about every model, none of the membership does, what the members here excel at is sharing their brand/model specific knowledge with other members.....old and new I for one have had members contact me after I asked for a little help with an in depth 'how to' on several builds of mine, they did not need make that sort of effort for me, they wanted to help and for that I am grateful you are right however when you say that we need new members on the forum, but we certainly don't need the 'bad', 'uncommitted' and 'silly questions' we can handle no worries we have all been in the same boat before, but all the op is asking for is a little civility on the board.......from new and old members alike I'm not posting this to have a pop at you sol, merely to help you understand (I hope) how I think the thread was intended.......tread your own path

  17. Of late I have had issues with Andrew as well. But he has managed to keep my business just by the skin of his teeth, when at the very last he has mended things. Problem with this is the valuable time one loses and money to send the watch back to him and wait for a replacement for 6 weeks!! Hope you end up with a good product at the end.

  18. I love this one! I don´t know why so many of my customers choose the 3714-01 over the 3714-38. This is as i see it the absolutely best rep of the Portu series (with rep dial that is) This one have a gen heart transplanted and wears a gen strap for Sunday dinner. 20. It's definitely more flat than gloss. But because of the platinum "dust", it shimmers/reflects under different lighting conditions. But you can clearly see that the Tamiya titanium silver is much closer to gen than just the pure white paint the cartels are using.

  21. I've read all of this. Very passionate arguments on both sides. For the record, I do not own currently a gun, nor have I ever owned one. To the non US citizen members, I can understand where you are coming from. The lack of logic in 'needing' to own weapons (whether you think any weapon, or just assault weapons) is probably a perfectly natural thing for you to believe based on the evolution of your society, how you were raised, and the overall experiences in your life. Here in the US (for better or worse), we were raised differently. Our country's history is different. You can't equate one to the other with any measure of statistics, or other arguments. To the US citizens who believe in gun control, I will respectfully disagree with you as well, but not because of statistics, or school shootings, or any other 'perfectly logical' argument. Perhaps you upbringing or circumstances haven't put you in a situation where needing a gun was essential, or you've just come to that conclusion through things you've read or heard. I fell into that category ... but I have changed my mind for one reason. It took awhile for me to decide enough is enough. I am now going to buy a gun on principle alone. The US government has been tranpling on the Constitution and its Amendments for quite some time. This might be the issue that finally makes others stop and think about that too. I certainly hope so, It has for me. Purely out of protest I will buy a gun, not because I need one, but because the Constitution says I can and I am tired of the government trampling on my Rights (with a capital R). As many have said, our country was created by overthrowing what our founding fathers believed to be a tyranical ruler. The 2nd Amendment was specifically designed to allow for the ability of common men to band together and do it again, if the people believed the new government also got out of control. The Civil War in our country was a prime example of the intent of 2nd Amendment in action. The 'problem' with banning 'some' weapons, is that the 'person' deciding what weapons to ban will be .... wait for it ... the government. That entity which according to our founding fathers was supposed to be kept in check (I believe as a last resort, BTW) by the ability of the people to keep and bear arms. Personally, I think ALL weapons should be available, despite my having no desire (right now) to own anything more than a handgun. I do want everything to be available in case I change my mind, or circumstances dictate that I need to own more than a handgun (like becomming Nanuq's next door neighbor). I had a friend who is a lawyer tell me that the Constitution has to protect equally. Even the people you disagree with, or the actions you might think are wrong (like burning a flag). He also told me the Constitution was a living document, and was designed to be changed when the people deemed it was needed. IF the people of the United States want to repeal the 2nd Amendment, then (and only then) come after the guns. Until then ... the Constitution says we can own 'arms' and therefore we should be allowed to do so. It's really as simple an argument as that. Personally I think if the founding fathers were dropped into the US today they would be appalled at what the federal government has become. They'd probably start another revolution just because we obviously didn't get it the first time.

  23. I only just saw this thread and knowing of N from this forum and others over the last couple of years, I was a little taken a back by some of the issues raised so I thought I would take some time to research the issues raised here and on RG etc ... What I found was a guy who had trusted someone else whom he had known for some time and built up a relationship with and had then been completey shafted.... not just on the part of the guys he was doing work for but also for himself and not just hundreds or even a few thousand dollars.... but well over 10k So what does this guy do? Does he run or shaft those guys like he was shafted.... like I guess most guys would and I include myself in that comment as I am not sure I could have stood up and held my hands up to my peers here... No he doesnt.....what he does is... He sells his collection of fantastic frankens and modded watches and as he raises the funds he pays back those that have lost thier money... of course not all at once... I mean this is one guy and there are a few guys who have been shafted by proxy..so he spreads those payments across all those involved and as his collection is sold..then in the mean time he carries on doing work for others (those that know who this guy really is and who trust him) and he uses the funds raised to again cover those payments... he then still takes part in the forum posting those projects he is doing on behalf of others and still helping out with general info and specific details relating to this hobby.. To be honest when I first read this thread and some of the comments ..I thought that this must be the forum version of ' the gathering of villagers with pitchforks and torches' Personally I dont see the evidence here for some of the comments made and with a little research I found most to be unfounded and unwarranted.... I can only say that I applaud the efforts of N through no fault of his own to rectify this situation and make things right.... I am sure if any one effected by this situation took the time to consider what N is going through and what he is having to deal with in terms of not only the personal financial cost but also the stress of dealing with some very upset and relentless messages on a daily basis.... and the fact that he is slowly but surely resolving matters...they might reconsider what they expect in the time they expect it... I hope that makes sense guys

  30. "I have however discovered a problem with the movement, when changing the date manually it is fine but at 12 it changes over in 2 day jumps instead of the next day! Any ideas???" Maybe not enough tension on the the little 'pointer' that locates the date, shown between 12 and 13 in the top date wheel pics and between 5 and 6 in the lower pic. Should not be hard to fix. The first batch of genuine 3035 had this problem but it is not made like the 3135. The movement looks good. I have a few 152xx and 162xx cases, dials etc that have been parted out...maybe get a couple of these movements and fire them up. I could give my wife one just to see how rugged they are.
