  2. I joined here several months ago because I wanted to buy my husband a seamaster for his 40th birthday and didn't think I could afford a gen one. To cut a long story short, I unexpectedly got some money and found I could stretch to a 2nd hand one, and so he was a very happy man on his birthday. It is beautiful! I adore watches and have enjoyed browsing through the forums and learning about all the gorgeous reps that are out there - it's opened a whole new world to me, I just had to get a top end watch for myself. Unfortunately I couldn't afford a second gen (yet)! The Omega reps for ladies seem to be pretty thin on the ground - I'm not very delicate, so a seamaster suits me a lot more than something "pretty". I also looked at the Tag Link (too cheap!) and the Cartier Santos (too dear!) then toyed with the idea of a 42mm PO but the strap on the 300M is so much nicer and a 42mm would be pretty ostentatious. Then I saw afew weeks back that there are new SMP ladies versions on some TDs sites. Could I find anything more about them here or anywhere else? Nada. I wasn't sure when I looked at the photos on the TD sites. Would it look good? Then I just couldn't help myself and pulled the trigger. The first watch I got QA pics for was pretty bad, it had a very obvious misalignment of the 12 o'clock markers. I'm no expert like some of you guys but I spotted it right away. I was a bit concerned that I'd made an expensive mistake. Then I got a second set of pics - much better! Not perfect, I'm sure, but I'm happy. I don't know the "tells" for this watch so don't burst my bubble too badly! At the end of the day its for wearing for fun, I love the loook of it so I don't mind if some things aren't quite right - I'd never pretend if asked that it was gen. As an added bonus the movement seems to be pretty good, it's a miyota one but seems very accurate so far! The strap was also very easy to resize, i had to take 4 links out I think, but it was done in under 10 minutes, the screws were easy even for a complete novice like me. So, here it is:

  3. A budget evaluation of the cost of a relume is around 80€, a full movement service is around 100€ or more, a water proof assesment is around other 35€ or so. Yes. Expensive. But the time required and the needed skills are not that easy to form and to find around. So, if you want to follow that path, those're the costs. About contacting them: SSTeel is here too, so you can directly PM him (but beware: he's accepting works only by the VIP members of the forum in order to deal with people that knows how the things go and have acceptable requests, other that it's not his main job), while KeNnY is on RWG.bz, so you can contact him from there.

  5. Hey everyone Had a breakthrough yesterday. Seller has offered a refund. Possibly a chat with MoaB convinced him (I am in your debt my friend). Thanks for all your advice, and thankyou Daniel (P4GTR) for the offer of a replacement strap and for all the offers of help fixing the dial movement issue. I'm sure one day the time will come for me to open a watch and make an embarrassing mess of the insides, but for today I'm gonna take the money !-D In the end, this has turned out to be a really positive experience. Getting involved in the group, albeit to sort out a dispute, has convinced me that it's a good place to hang around. I'll be back, old and smarter. And once I get my loot returned I'll be on the hunt for a good B&R rep. Advice welcome! R

  10. Hi, You might try Kenny including a re-lume job if You´re going for the expense or SSteel after You are a member for some more time and upgrade to VIP (both are not UK but EU). Before You do it pls check the background info on that HE-valve, I didn´t do it o nsome it is just an outward application (the hole it fits in is not drilled into the case). One of the best for waterproofing imo is the BP Seadweller, its also one of the best looking. I would prefer buying this with the Asian ETA from Intime (good to go with but not a TD on rwg), You could also ask Supermirrors. For double the price the best is the TC Submariner only available from TC with 2-3 months waiting time. http://intime.co/product.php?id_product=1162 http://www.ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_8&products_id=10933 also has a HE valve

  13. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I posted here just to guage if my expectations were unreasonable, and thanks to your responses I am feeling that I was simply naive and the seller exploited this. As Mike on a Bike noted, there were a few red flags on his listing, ones that a noob like me wouldn't have spotted. Things like his not replying to other interested members very specific questions about the lume quality. I guess I just got burned by a pro, and it serves to note that even 12 positive feedback does not mean you care about what you're selling. As a further note, I got out the strap again to have another look this morning. Not only was it unwearable but it had a black PVD buckle. The watch was stainless steel. He said it was fine when he sent it. In which case I have a tupperware box when can PVD coat stainless steel. That's gotta be worth something!! R

  14. Wow Nightwatch. I guess you are suggesting that we should all just accept anything that comes in the mail and either fix it ourselves or enjoy it as a project to fix since it's OK to send a piece of crap to another member? Somehow that just doesn't sit right with me. Hope I'm misreading you, and call me old fashioned but I don't accept your premise at all. I know that I and lots of others could probably fix it and move on. But a lot of others can't and shouldn't be expected to be watch smiths every time they buy a watch from M2M sales.
