  1. Just paid for my VIP membership. A few comments on the new layout: I like the looks and the newly added features. The layout seems to not make good use of the real estate on my screen (wide unused edges on both sides, but maybe it's just an issue with my set-up ?). The Classified section does fell like a step in the wrong direction IMHO: Writing a sales thread seems more complicated (but I can probably figure it out) and finding sales threads is definitely less intuitive. I see a 50% decrease in views and even more in actual sales at least for my last sale Otherwise I appreciate what you are guys doing to provide this great platform for us. Donerix

  2. No problem, I haven't seen build threads here, so I thought it was just a HF thing... Points taken. I'm still trying to find the right strap combo... Went with a strap from Bosphorus today... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  3. I've seen some very pretty ones and I like toys, but I always think, well I don't have a rolling road on my drive so my cars accumulate mileage and wear while I sleep, so why would I want to do that to my watches. I guess if you have two or three automatics in rotation and are lacking in patience they have a use. I have a few more than that and when I change watch, setting time and date is part of the ritual. I find it therapeutic.

  8. The big fear with reducing dial size is paint flaking. There are some threads. I believe members have had success by protecting the dial face and mounting the dial on a spindle such as a dremel, then holding sanding paper to the spinning dial. Slow, patient and very careful I would think. As I mentioned, ensure the chapter ring will not be hidden first. Do your research, take a brave pill, then go for it.

  9. I know, I read it there my friend, but not everybody is on multiple forums. I would welcome you sharing your builds with members here. In fact I would encourage anyone to share their builds however modest or ambitious.

  11. First, what is the diameter of the dial that came with your 1655? Does it fit the case with no 'wiggle-room' at all? You might have some flexibility as 1mm isn't much room. I have reduced the diameter on dials, and made dials round from flat stock, by using a bamboo shish-ka-bob skewer as an 'axle' in the center hole, and lightly touching it, making the dial spin on the axle, to a bench grinder. caution: Using metal as an axle will ruin the dial by enlarging the center hole while spinning! A toothpick isn't strong enough and will break. The bamboo is strong enough. Afterward you can use that bamboo stick to apply lume. Holding the axle and using my thumbs on each side to steady the dial, I touch the dial edge to the bench grinder slightly. The dial will spin on the axle, and grind a tad, then stop and fit to the case. It usually takes a few times as you don't want to take too much or overheat the paint on the dial. If you have a spare dial you can practice.

  12. What did you use to sand off the Cyclops. I assume the Cyclops was plexi but is the actual crystal plexi as well or is is sapphire. Also I used helenarou for a custom Explorer dial and she did have a couple options on diameters. I would hit her up to see if she can get you one in the size you are looking for. Hers are ETA feet also.

  18. Indeed, and the new kid on the block, STP, who also make Swiss movements based on the ETA 28XX calibers are also selling more than every of their range of movements too.
