  5. This 1675 has been in the works for nearly 2 years, probably because I had found a gen 1675 63' pcg and that was my main focus, well...and the other draw of builds, parts, and stuff, you know how it goes ... The case started off an old cartel, but now I had my gen case for 1:1 detail I was adamant to get it close as I could muster, I've heard some people comment how the cartel case is close to gen, which is a pretty inaccurate opinion as far as my eyes led me to believe. Case thickness, crown guards, tube area were my main focus, case was taken down on top and on bottom but mostly the top by a substantial amount, luckily this was beneficial for the crown tube height which was set up for a 6mm crown and very much case centered/ low as stock. So my next test was to fit the correct 5.3mm crown tube, this posed an awkward modification but I came up with grinding the 6mm tube down to the case flush, then retapping the 6mm tube for the 5.3mm one, and it worked a treat . Case was heavily laser welded cg's lugs, and shaped to a early 1675 eagle beak spec, there's a few different variations of 1675 pcg's . Most important aspects were behind the case tube as it gets very close to the crown on gen, also the way the top part of the cg's are machined circular with the case, rarther than just filing in a horizontal line with the case, if that makes sense, This took me a long time and multiple welds before the OCD subsided. Should have just bought a phong, but that's too easy, and besides the point. Crystal is a gen 116 (thanks automatico for the tips!) Insert in gen red back / there's one on eBay for $1200 which looks exactly the same, insert prices have gone mental over the last few years!. Ideally I wanted to keep the build as gen less as possible just to see how close I could get, but I'm not a fan of the aftermarket insert fonts. Crown tube gen / both tubes Phong custom deep cut bezel, most would opt for a Clark assembly and there's nothing wrong with that , nicely made. But the pcg gen old first edition bezels are so nice and deep I had to have something better, so phong made this one, I did take it down on the lathe to match my gen , but it's very nice as is. Hands are a mix, Gen gmt hand broached and gmt wheel taken down ( to keep a nice tube in hand) painted red, I used a gen hand as the proportions on aftermarket hands are awkward. Tc hour, minute, and HR seconds with modifiying the tip to be like a gen 1675 hand. Case back was engraved pan am / Neckyzips , and taken in to match the flat area of the cb. Home made mov ring Dial is a Vietnamese job, same as most suppliers from the region : negative relief blah blah. Yuki bracelet drilled out to fit fat bars . I've missed out a lot of details but it was a long drawn out deal but it looks pretty dam close to my gen in the end. I will take some pics side by side once I have some time to go to the bank, and my summer daze kicks in. Here's a few quick snaps of the completion . Hand mod Gen reference eagle beak

  6. I don't think it's necessary to beat a dead horse and write a comprehensive review of Skyland as RWG Breitling section archive is FULL of them. Flaws This rep came out in '08 and there's nothing left to say. The "biggest" flaw is the lume application on '1, '2 and '4 markers. The fact is that you either get your Skyland rep with those markers badly or moderately screwed up. My watch definitely belongs to the latter category. The dots are very reasonable and the misalignment is almost impossible to see with naked eye. Rest of the markers are pretty much "rep perfect". Sure there are other flaws but they're very insignificant. The grey dial was actually lighter than I thought. Maybe the member pics are often contrasted or photographed in insufficient lighting? Factories used the grey one as an example so I guess the color is pretty close to the gen? I have never owned a grey dial watch before so this was welcome variation. Why v2? I asked around a few veteran members and a few Breitling enthusiasts in the community, and they all said the same: "v2 is the best version, get that one". The initial batches came with bad movements but mine has one from the newer production run. A decent one, according to Importr. Runs smoothly and has good PR. v3 is very good replication as well and has some advantages over v2. I don't bother to list them as Yodap has already written an excellent guide of the different versions. You can view it here. It would be interesting to hear different views on this matter, especially from people who have owned both. I guess you can't go wrong with either version. The size issue? Yes, Skyland is a big watch. Very thick and massive. But if you have a large wrist I would say you can pull it off. It's huge but not ridiculous by any means. This is how it looks on a '8 wrist. (Also notice how amazingly shiny the bracelet is after heavy Unipol metal polishing paste & car wax treatment. I spent a lot of time to clean up this watch and the results were very satisfactory. The bracelet shines like a mirror.) Everyone is familiar with the Steelfish. And it's big but not overly so. Skyland is almost the same size but Fish wears a bit smaller because it's thinner. But I don't think the difference is that big, really. If Fish looks good on you, I think you're good to go with Skyland. How about comparing it to Rolex Explorer II? Well... like I said, Skyland is a big watch. I disagree with people who say that it's impossible to wear smaller watches after getting used to XXL ones. I have no problem wearing my Explorer II after Skyland, it doesn't feel too small at all. Just different. Variety is the spice of life. Do I like it? That's the main question for us all, isn't it? It doesn't matter if the rep model is popular if it's not a watch for you. I just recently reviewed the beautiful and hugely popular graphite BCE and it didn't grab me at all. To be honest, I wasn't sure about Skyland, either. It always looked a bit clumsy and maybe even a bit plain, boring. The dial doesn't have the amazing "quillouche" that Steelfish has, and the the exaggerated thickness and polished bracelet made it look almost tasteless in my eyes. But on the other hand, that's exactly where the attraction is: Skyland is a bit gross and definitely very "Breitlingsque". I really like this new style of Pro bracelet and the recessed SELs combined with very high lugs create this watch a massive, masculine look. I would never call it a "beautiful watch" but Skyland has some sort of weird, unexplainable charm. Funny how I didn't like the polished bracelet on Navitimer and BCE at all, but find the Skyland bracelet very attractive. But then again the Blacksteel version doesn't do anything for me, and Skyland on a leather strap (which seems to be very popular combo) kills this watch completely, imho. I'm a steel man through and through. Different strokes... Summary I wanted another Breitling and I need at least some variation in my collection. Skyland is different enough, but still very much "my kind of sports watch". Andreww, Mickey Padge, P4GTR and others who said that I'd like this watch were right. I don't know why it took me almost 2 years to realize it. As I said, the only flaw worth mentioning is the lume at '1, '2 and '4 but even those are excellent on my watch (compared to average rep dials). The dial looks excellent unless you take a macro photograph of it. Untreated rep braclet felt really lousy, and even after heavy treatment (which improved it 200%) it's not like the gen Pro2 bracelet, which is actually one of the nicest bracelets out there. But it's very good rep bracelet when treated properly. I can't stress this enough... you HAVE to oil and polish it. The end result was good enough for me. If I ever want a perfect Skyland I'm sure I'll find one from TZ or WUS sales forums. Special thanks to my friend Importr. He said that the watch "was in excellent condition". He never mentioned that the new watch was brand new, in plastics... and a good rep example to boot. Once again it got proven: best reps come from fellow RWG veteran members... perfect QC, usually picked up from dealer previews of the actual watch, etc. One of the best reps ever and one of my best rep purchases ever... a keeper for sure. Thanks again!

  7. I've been away from the site for quite a while, and this post made me smile. At first I smiled because it's a perennial question that will never go away. Then I smiled because at least two veteran members chimed in with no sarcasm or malice and pointed the new guy in the right direction. This place is just as great as when I last I signed on. That makes me happy!

  9. Totally agreed, I spent 2 months of reading everything I could absorb before I ever posted anything.... There is so much info on here it's amazing and completely overwhelming at first. However, the built-in search function is painful to use (IMHO). I suggest anyone trying to find specific topics use Google to search the site. Example Google Search: yuki 3135 site:rwg.cc If you want to get creative, you can add quotes to narrow results (searches for two or more words together): "yuki 3135" site:rwg.cc And then you use quotes and not in quotes to get even more specific results: "yuki 3135" parts site:rwg.cc "yuki 3135" parts site:rwg.cc yields the same thread that @Sogeha mentioned above, which should answer most of your questions. Hope that helps and welcome to the forums.

  16. Hey mate...sad to say but say "good bye" to "close to gen". The 1675 are very hard to mod to get it close to gen and the best base isn't a 1675 straight from a dealer either. The good news is...once you don't look for a "close to gen" look you can make this your own interpretation of a vintage 1675 and this can lead you to a very nice watch overall What I'd do to your watch (or any other new 1675) is to vintagize the dial and hands, bleach the inlay and "torture" the case in a bag with screws and nails, then repolish it. Do this until you are happy with the look and that's it. I had several 1675 in the past and tried to get them "close to gen" but always ended up with still having just a rep (but an expensive one, some with gen dial, inlay, crystal, crown) on the wrist, easily to spot as one from those who know where to look at. Hence...I always felt unhappy because I'm one of the few who can spot a 1675 rep on the wrist. Today I'd say no need to spent $$$ in getting a 1675 base modded or even frankened. Just vintagize it, make it your very own watch...best one can do

  17. Isn't the 79350 a reworked and modified ETA7750? two grand for a movement, then gen dial and hands plus the rep to base it on. I'm guessing you are going to end up three quarters of the money to a genuine IWC

  18. I'm tired of over aged insert those days. I feel better with a new Yuki. It's perfect ! I still had an Athaya pearl, but I lose it on the carpet while manipulation. It's the first time I loose a part in a year of builds. Arrrgh ! And I love those new Yuran straps ordered for my 1675. They add a little touch of fun. [emoji632]
