  1. Another thing to consider, many dive watches with deep ratings have thick cases so they don't deform under pressure. I read a test that took several deep divers to max pressure in a lab, and the casebacks on some deformed enough to stop the watch. So I consider a 1665 or early Doxa with their thick engraved backs as just part of what was needed in the era before dive computers... if it absolutely positively HAS to run to time your dive, then you gotta do what it takes to protect that little mechanical heart.

I agree it has to be robust but I think 12,000 feet for the Deepsea is overkill.

    from WikiAnswers.

A Navy diver submerged 2,000 feet (609.6 m), setting a record using the new Atmospheric Diving System (ADS hardshell suit), off the coast of La Jolla, CA, on Aug. 1 2007.

The deepest open circuit scuba dive was accomplished by Pascal Bernab

  2. Makes you think of what could have been without the fire alarm.

Glad to hear all of you made it out safely.

Another alarm to consider is a CO2 alarm.

I heard a very sad story of a family of five dying in their sleep, the vent for the gas fireplace got blocked with snow.

This can happen with all sorts of gas appliances.

  3. There used to be a pursuit to make the thinnist mechanical watches around the 1960s. Comfortable, easy wearing. Not anymore.

Now you have these super thick cases 1/2" to 5/8" thick! Diameter is not much of an issue for me, I prefer 40 to 42mm.

I sold my Skyland because of the weight and thickness, it really used to bother my wrist.

The Rolex DeepSea is another example of how ridiculous things have gotten.

  4. Omegaunit,

If you're using the same rep 1675 I'm thinking of it wouldn't fit a gen dial anyhow, the gen dial is too small and goes right through the opening. I learned the hard way.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted on the progress!

Yes, it is the same case that you used. Gen Rolex dial is around 27mm and the rep case is meant to accept a 29mm dial. The opening in the case is about .5mm to big so yeah it goes through!<_<

  5. Thanks for the info, guys!

    @jmb:

Thanks for the offer. I am focusing on the vintage Gmt for now.

So the best bet would be the MBK dial then, I kinda like the price as well!

I am having a go at modding a vintage GMT rep case.

So far I have drilled the lug holes for 2mm spring bars.

Machined the bezel that came with rep and installed an aftermarket bezel(bezel insert snaps on instead of being glued on)

I still have to machine the case to accept an aftermarket crystal. It currently sits too high. The rep came with a domed crystal that was glued on and didn't look right.

  6. I am looking to buy a GMT dial for a project I am working on. Aside from a gen dial which seems to be very expensive, here are two alternatives I have come across:

MBK GMT dial sells for $65.00 + $15 for shipping

Yukiwatch Rolex GMT Master ref.1675 Gloss dial with hand set sells for $135.00 shipping included.

Anyone purchase either of these dials? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
