  1. Same qualifications as you,

I just have a Forum's blabla Licence, I am a Barbie doll and plastic fake watches collector,

Are you yourself graduated from a Rep Watches Sciences University ? witch one ?

A hobby is a hobby. Don't need qualifications for a hobby. A hobby is just fun.

    Oh boy.

  2. Sorry to hear about your troubles UncleJay.

This is one of the reasons I won't send a watch back. If the dealer is decent he should sent you replacements first, if there is an issue you can use parts from the first batch to make a good watch.

I appreciate you sharing this information with us, at least some of us will be spared.

  3. What happened to the customer service? Looks like it has been replaced with creative excuses and no apologies.

This is not what you paid for, ask for the difference or send it back and Josh should pick up the tab.

Mistakes happen but you shouldn't have to pay for it.

I have to give credit to Silix, I ordered Swiss ETA, I got Swiss ETA.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the dealer section.

  4. There will always be issues with reps especially with the movements. Problems can show up after a few weeks or months of wearing. I accept this as the rep reality.

The problem I have is with obvious flaws or attempts to get away with sending defective product.

Dial markers can fall off during shipping, acceptable. Glueing a retention [censored] on a bracelet is not.

I don't mind having the "middleman" as long as they stand by what they are sending you. There seems to be a lot of drop shipping going on especially by dealers that say they don't do so. Since dealers may not know about the flaws the watches have, it is a good idea to post the experiences here.

  5. Going back about 15 years ago I was collecting pocket watches. I would buy ones that needed some TLC as they were fairly cheap.

I passed a watchmakers shop everyday on my way to work so I decided to give him a try as I needed a balance staff replaced.

My Dad came along with me and from the outside of the shop you could see the watchmaker just standing there looking through the window doing absolutly nothing. I walk in, greeted the man and asked if he could replace the balance staff. He looked at me and said NO! I guess he wanted to do the whole job.

My Dad and I walked out of there stunned.

I eventually found another watchmaker, european old school, amazingly steady hands for an old guy. Being in his shop was like travelling back to the '60s

The only problem was he would leave early when he felt like it even though the sign said open till 5:00. Nice man, he made the balance staff and installed it for $35.00! I gave him all the jobs I couldn't handle and his prices were very reasonble. I even brought him a watch I had cleaned for his opinion and he looked at it.(Told me I forgot the 2 screws that hold the cap jewel on the balance, otherwise nice job!) Regretably he retired and closed his shop.

  6. I'm a very senior member - over 3000 posts on rep boards been around since early 2005 - i still get the same crap everyone else does

major problem is the business culture of china - they operate different than the western world - Very high level of defective items and the usual and customary solution is to offer a discount on the NEXT item

this is normal in china in all industries not just the rep industry - it is very different than US and European purchasers are used to.

on top of it we are a good number of sales for these folks, but by no means can we control the market to make demands. THe factories are to blame - and if our dealers complain to much to the factories - then, the factories stop selling to them

so, there is always unnacceptable like my recent BCE situation but, QC is always going to be an issue. all we can try to do is keep the dealers here honest as to their practices and hold them to the assurances that they advertise - i.e. it has the type of movement advertised

in reality - we could get direct contact to some of the manufacturers oursleves - but we would have NO barginaning power. - the dealers are the go between and give some level of comfort and ability to make things right and thats how they earn their $$

    Well said Phoband!

By the way, what was wrong with the BCE and who sold it to you?

  7. The only thing we can do is post our experiences so others can decide if a dealer is any good.

I have had a nothing but problems with the reps I have received lately from so called "trusted dealers".

Is there anything more disappointing than receiving a watch you can't wear. $300 of your hard earned money sitting on your desk laughing at you.

I will not pay to have a watch shipped back, not if I can help it. Maybe if the movement dies I would consider sending it back.

Reps will have flaws and it is a gamble, how a dealer handles these issues is what can make the experience more paletable.

It would be great if we could rate dealers like they do on FleaBay. Ratings based on delivery, quality, price, communication. It would lessen the risk of receiving a dud. As it is now there is no incentive to even attempt to provide reasonable QC. There seems to be an abundace of watch addicts for them to prey on.

    My advice:

Buy as cheap as you can, if its junk, it won't hurt so bad!

  8. Most of the reps I have purchased from recommended dealers have had flaws.

The worst was this one from Trusty...

    band3.jpg

This is totally unacceptable. It is quite obvious someone tried to pull a fast one on me.

Needless to say, I won't be buying from that dealer again.

A rep watch that costs 200 to 400 or more should be flawless or at least close to it.

Everyone should post pictures of these defective watches and name the dealer it was purchased from, maybe the QC would improve.
