  1. Well, the "makers and the takers" has been a staple of the Faux News for the last few months. Where alternate realities collide. Sorry, didn't mean to create pain. lol
  2. Nanug, there's only one problem with your scenario. Of that 50% that are recipients, most are elderly on Social Security and Medicare or disabled. Something that I believe they've earned the right to. Then, of course you have unemployment which most unemployed have paid into the system most of their working life. The "welfare queens" scenario that is so popular these days accounts to less than 1%. Contrary to "Entitlement Society" Rhetoric, Over Nine-Tenths of Entitlement Benefits Go to Elderly, Disabled, or Working Households. Time to turn of the Fox News Network for a while.
  3. I don't know if it's just me but I've never been able to get into anything on this forum other than "view new posts". Anything else goes directly to "My Settings". I always figured it was because I wasn't a VIP and that's just the way it was supposed to be. Of course not being able to see any of the forum doesn't add much motivation to upgrade.
  4. Funniest part is that Luthier came here as an immigrant and now want's to deny everyone else the same opportunities.
  5. Obama's watch is a special edition made for the Secret Service and it was given to him by those who have sworn to protect him. It's not a matter of being humble, it's a matter of pride. Before being elected I think he wore a Tag Heur.
  6. Hambone, I apologize for being a little hard and maybe rude. Guess I didn't see the humor. But I see above your avatar, "Humorless, but smells funny". Now it makes sense. JK. I realize that usually nothing good comes from these discussions other than a chance to rant a little and practice arguing since I seem to lose all of them around my house. I'm sure you're right, The human race will destroy ourselves. I just don't think it will either happen in the next 4 years nor will it be Obama's fault. But, I could be wrong.
  7. Not quite, Only Lehman Bros is gone rather than them and Goldman Sachs, Merril Lynch, the auto industry, most large American banks including Bank of America and Chase, etc. The fiscal cliff is for sissies compared to what we were looking at back then. Jobs are starting to return. The stimulus is said to have saved how many jobs? Fact check.org: As we have written before, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report in August that said the stimulus bill has "[l]owered the unemployment rate by between 0.7 percentage points and 1.8 percentage points" and "ncreased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million." Simply put, more people would be unemployed if not for the stimulus bill. The exact number of jobs created and saved is difficult to estimate, but nonpartisan economists say there’s no doubt that the number is positive. And that was only a paltry 787 billion. Consumer confidence is at a 9 year high. In the same period that you're complaining about we spend much more money fighting two unnecessary wars.
  8. Funny how the private sector's pension plans are also in a huge percentage of cases totally unfunded or underfunded, just like the government's. The difference is the US has plenty of assets left to mortgage for the next 1000 years. Our debt relative to our total net asset value of assets of the Federal Government is miniscule. That is something nobody really give much though to. If you compared our national debt to the average Americans debt, both short term and long term (home mortgage, in most cases) you'd probably find most Americans have debt in the neighborhood of 10x their yearly take home pay and up to 20x their net worth. The Federal Government's total debt is now at 72% of GDP (1 years pay). Similar to a man making $100,000 having a long term mortgage of $72,000. Also,as for Net Asset Value, that same man would need to have a net worth of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and the next 10 richest people added together. Not all that scary when you look at it from the more practical position. Also, let's not forget that the interest on this borrowing is currently around 2% or less. Our interest on the National Debt is lower now than many times in the past. After WWII the National Debt peaked at 113% of GDP and has fallen ever since until GWB decided we needed a couple of good wars that he never bothered funding. As soon as we get out of the current wars and recession it will go right back down. The sky isn't actually falling, Chicken Little.
  9. Posts like this make me really sad for America. Nothing constructive, realistic, or meaningful here. Just mean spirited blather that adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. Charter member of the "Me Generation"? You "interests" speak volumes about yourself: Interests:My interests include, wine, women, fine food, fine clothes, watches and shoes, oh and luxury German automobiles.
  10. Not everybody, mostly just Republicans. Today's preliminary Michigan Consumer Sentiment Survey was reported at 84.9, which was its highest level since July 2009.
  11. With the field of Republicans chosen for the primaries it's no wonder they lost convincingly. They were so busy kowtowing to the far right that they all were committing political suicide. It was like a circular firing squad. The only "reasonable man" that they fielded was Jon Huntsman and he was immediately dismissed as too moderate. Jeb Bush could have easily won this election as could Chris Christie. Gingrich.....Not a chance. He's got more baggage than Greyhound bus. Cut back on health care and education for moon colonies? Definitely not part of the Republican small government mantra.
  12. You are correct. They were down slightly before the election was called. The market hates uncertainty. That's why I specified AFTER the election in bold. They swung around a bit during the night but the point is still strong that the election was not the cause of the huge drop, At best it was a very small mitigating factor, although it didn't appear to me that there was any correlation. Keeping the happy thoughts although it's been a rather painful day.
  13. As a student of the stock market and a very long time investor, I can say unequivocally that the election had little or nothing to do with the drop this morning. I happened to be following the market last night, AFTER the election had been called for Obama and the Dow futures were up over 100 points. The drop came instantaneously early this morning, when Mario Draghi, the head of the ECB, was speaking about the slow down in Europe being worse than expected, particularly in Germany (The only country holding things together at the moment). So, you Republicans can blame Obama if it makes you feel good about your loss, but it wont make it true. By the way, life will pretty much go on as it has for the past 200 years. The end of civilization isn't coming in the next 4 years. In case you haven't heard the BLS has already stated that the economy will add 12 million new jobs regardless of who won the election.
  14. Subaru. If it's good enough for the official car of the USA ski team, it should be good enough for you. Actually from a few friends that live up in New England, they all swear by the Subaru in winter.
  15. That's been a known scam site for years.
  16. Can we assume that you actually did wind the movement?
  17. Not much you can do at this point but wait and see what happens. You realize that reps coming into China get confiscated more often than those leaving. I doubt that the dealer will do much until it's sorted out with the post office. I don't think filling out a form is any more of a risk than ordering it originally. They obviously need that information to trace the package. Just say wrist watch or costume jewelry on the form if it's asked.
  18. I'm not in UK but I've had similar problems with PC a couple of times when more than a month after sending he said he never got it. But both times it actually showed up and was fixed and returned. Once was over two months and once he said had to send the watch back to Taiwan for repair after he got it and that took over four months. I had pretty much forgotten about it when it showed up in my mailbox. If it's Josh, I think the right hand often doesn't know what the left hand is doing in his organization.
  19. On a 6497 the stem is held in by a screw that has obviously come loose. You should just need to re-insert it and tighten the screw.
  20. That's a different movement altogether. And the new Yuki movement from what I've read, at least has a thicker stem. I don't know if that makes it a V2 but the stem breaking was the big flaw of the first one.
  21. I posted this a while ago. Maybe worth another look. All you want to know about watches in movies............... http://watchesinmovies.info/
  22. I assume you were using gen hands also? I don't believe anyone before has actually confirmed that.
  23. Would this one be a fantasy also? Same dial in gold with lug holes. Regardless, I still like it.
  24. OOOOOH, I'd love one of those 42mm if any are available.
  25. I could go for a 1665 insert..........
