  2. Thanks for the response. That works out for me since that is about what I paid for the Breitling. And, yes it is smalller than the Breitling, but it feels about the same since the face is so large compared to the rest of the watch. Anyway, thanks again. C
  3. I am about to trade my gen Breitling Chronomat for an IWC Portofino. I've tried looking around, but can not find any information on this specific watch. If anyone has any ideas on what this watch is worth, I would appreciate any input. Thanks ahead of time. C
  4. Very interesting read. Thanks Robbie. C
  5. All good points. Plus, going from no watch to a $20,000 watch, assuming they even recognized it, would be a tell. Omega's are a good starting point and they have many different styles. If you want subtle, take a look at the Aqua Terra. A little more flashy would be the PO chrono. Head over to one of the dealers sites and go through the list. I would also suggest looking for something that has a gen value of $5,000 or less.
  6. I wasn't going to post as my picture is so bad compared to the first few, but then I saw TeeJay's and figured what the heck. So here is my "new" Lum-Tec that I got Friday. This thing glows like a freakin' torch. Sorry no lume shot, but you know what it looks like. C
  7. Ditto that. It looks like the bezel is correct, just the insert is off a tad. Maybe a minute or two under the hair dryer and it will spin pretty easily into place. Once it cools it should sit tight. Nice pearl on that one. I wouldn't dump it just because the insert is off. Like the others say, it is a known problem and an easy fix. Good luck.
  8. Ditto on that. I drilled a hole in my dial and bought a new movement just so I could have a date on my custom watch. Not perfect, but I was going nuts without it.
  9. Try the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Trusty has them here, but his pictures really do not do it justice.
  10. Great Story. Glad you are okay.
  11. The Channel J12 is on the mark. The Cartier Tanks also seem to be pretty good.
  12. I agree with Toadtorrent, except I lean towards the Omegas. I currently have a PO and am looking to get another of different color. I had the Carrera, but got rid of it when I sold my 911; couldn't deal with the constant reminder. Both are great reps so you can't go wrong with respect to looks. C

  14. My wife is pretty small, so much so that the J12 felt to big for her despite loving the watch. She has the following and they all seem to fit her: Omega Constellation, Coach Tank, two Tags (not sure, but small ladies) and a Gucci with the bamboo bracelet. All but the Gucci have adjustable bracelets. The Gucci just fits fortunately. Good luck.
  15. Great to work with. Thanks.

  16. I want to thank everyone for the helpful tips on this project. It took a while, but I finally got the coin sanded to a size that was sufficient. It is still a little thick, but it looks like I have sufficient clearance. I did silicone the movement to the dial. I kept the original ring for the dial and put lume at the hour marker positions. I also relumed the hands. It's by no means perfect; primarily the lume I did sucks, but for my first try, I will take it. Plus, this way it is clear I did it myself. Anyway, here are the final pictures. Thx, C
  17. Not my style, but my father has worn his Mickey Mouse watch that way for as long as I can remember. He swears it takes less work to see the time that way. Whatever floats your boat.
  18. Thanks for the tip Offshore. I will go that route. Learning every day that patience is a virtue when it comes to working with the watches. Thanks again.
  19. I thought about trying to slice the coin in half, but I really only like one side anyway. Given that, its not worth the effort. But, if I had a coin that had a good face and back, that would be a pretty cool idea. Not sure how I would incorporate the back on the B&R case, though. Grinding will hopefully go well, but I got a spare just in case.
  20. Thanks. I will give it a try. The coins should be here by the weekend and I hope to get on the grinder this weekend. If things go well I will have pics shortly.
  21. Looking for some help/ideas/thoughts: I have a B&R 01-92 that is clearly a rep, so I started messing around with it. Needless to say, after about a half-day and two movements later, while the date functions no longer work, I was able to at least get the time on one movement working. Unfortunately, it was the low-beat. I couldn't get the seconds hand on, so low beat, high beat, who cares when you can't see the second hand anyway. Anyway, since the dial is so far off, I thought I would try something new. So, I've bought a couple of Colombian coins that are approximately 35.5 mm in diameter. I believe that is about the correct size for the B&R dial. My question is has anyone attempted to use a coin as a dial. The problems as I currently see them are: (1) the coin is way to thick; and, (2) no pins on the back of the coin to hold the movement. I think I can handle the thickness issue by putting it on a grinder taking off small amounts until I get it to about the right size. A lot of trial and error. The drilling of the hole will be done on my drill press, no problem. So what about the pins? The movement is crap, so I'm not above installing in "permanently" with glue or some other adhesive. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, any other problems that you can think off to help me head them off now would be helpful. CDV
  22. I concur, except we had the black ceramic. I gave it to my wife because she was tired of all the packages with watches not including one for her. I got the quartz version and I looked very hard at pictures and could not see any difference from the gen. Unfortunately, it was to big for her, but it is a beautiful watch. If I remember correctly, the Hermes are pretty good also. Good luck.
