  1. Hey guys and girls,

I absolutly love my v3 DSSD .. im just curious if its possible to replace the bezel with the newest and improved V5 one (and by the way..does the new V5 has the number 10 centered?...) .. ...any ideas how a noob should do that without destroying the watch?

    Much appreciated

    A.

I have a v5 and would rather swap IN a v3 bezel insert. The "10" and most numbers ride too low on the inner edge of the insert. Keep your V3 and do the paint mod.

  2. This is what the container says it is "AF Lume compound", it is NOT Super Luminova or even close in terms of glow quality or the ease of application.

There is only one Super Luminova, it's expensive as you discovered and only sold by RC Tritec. Don't even bother with any of the other so called offerings you see, they don't compare to the real thing...

If you simply wanted something to practice with, nothing wrong with this kit, it's close enough that you get the "feel" for applying lume.

Thank you for the quick response and validating my suspicions. I wonder why Ofrei is calling it SLN when it is an inferior product.

  3. I was considering buying C3 direct from RCTritec to mod a few older dials. Total cost to the US is about $85 from RCTritec. When looking at various other places I came across Ofrei selling this kit (in the pix) for $33. Ofrei is calling it "Superluminova".

Also Watchmaterial.com sells the same kit for $38, but they do not call it Super Luminova:

And Jules Borel item# CE13252 (at $35 USD)seems to be the same as Ofrei's offering but again no reference to SLN.

Anyone have experience with these product kits? And is it really Super LumiNova or an equivalent?

  4. Earlier this week, I procured a ladies DateJust for the wifey. Since she has tolerated my growing collection, I felt it was her turn to get a lil' bling.

I know better than to surprise her with one of my choosing, so I got her approval on a few models. Her criteria for selection was mostly size related. She has tiny wrists, and did not want a man's size, or larger ladies model. We looked at Tags, and we looked at FMs. We looked at Cartiers and Chanels, and a few others. She always seemed to come back to the Rollies tho. After reviewing the various choices she made her selection. I contacted one of the trusted dealers and the deed was done. Two weeks later here is what arrived.

The dial of the DateJust is white MOP. I struggled to capture in a photograph the subtle shadow changes that a MOP dial creates. It is really "shimmery". The "DateJust" font is incorrect, but realize this is a tiny watch, and its hard to tell.

The datewheel font seems more in line with older models.

Here is a 2003 gen with the current version font for comparison:

The size of this DateJust is about 24.5 mm - about the size of a quarter. The genuine is 26mm from what I can find online.

The crown size seems close but not perfectly in line with the cyclops. This deviation is VERY difficult to see when in hand.

Looking at the tube, I do not see any gaskets for watersealing. Without further diassembly or pressure testing, I cannot be sure how water tight the case is. I'm guessing its a leaky hull.

The clasp and bracelet is the usual dainty jubilee rep version.

Opening up the caseback, it reveals a ETA 2671 25J hi beat... (although I'm a little skeptical its a ETA, probably a clone)

The movement spacer is (I believe) rough brass... Check out the crooked screws (they do the job just fine).

For better water resistance, I have silicon lubed the tube and caseback gasket.

The wife is enjoying the bling today. She is hard at work doing the wash with our new replica washing machine:

In general this seems to be a nice beater. Obviously on macro, the dial font needs updating. The rehaut engraving was not even seen until I did the macro photos. Time will tell if it holds up to my wife's expectations, and physical abuse (of the watch, not me). The bling factor is not over-the-top, which is just what she wanted. I find it subtly classy and it complements her.

If your thinking about a ladies Datejust for your woman (or for your own scrawny 4 inch wrist) then this rep version is sure to please.

    Sorry for the uberpics.

  5. Just back from servicing is a 1954 Seamaster Calendar. Gold cap over SS.

cal. 355 automatic bumper movement running like new.

Bought on the bay for $209 last month.

I purchased the bracelet previously, and I think it works well. The signed crown may not be correct tho. Looking at the Omega vintage museum picture, it may be a four leaf crown. I have sourced one if it is correct. Anyone know, and whaddaya think?

  6. Here is another supplier of the 2836-2 ETA.

Only $72.00USD. Now, figuring it was too good to be true - I ordered one (what the hell) and it came in the yellow case - well packaged but NOT the original ETA foil pack. Close inspection shows the balance wheel is not etched, but the main gear that Eurotimez said is polished in copies seems to be correct (verification by others would be appreciated). Well I plugged it into an older mariner rep and it was working great for about an hour. Then, it seems the balance wheel (or rotor - if Im calling it correctly), spins on its own once I manually wind (like it is unwinding itself). Holds proper time for an hour only. Seems exact same type as you linked. Be wary.

Here is the link of the one I bought. Item number 290230612636

    Anyone else tried this supplier?
