  1. Hey buddy,

For your modification work, since you want to stay in the EU for customs reasons, I would probably recommend Domi/bricciola for the job :)

As for the 16610 bezel- If it's gone bi-directional, it's probably just a matter of adjusting the click spring. It's possible that it's out of alignment and not engaging in the ratchet teeth, or it may need to be re-bent, or replaced if it is damaged. I don't think you need a new bezel assembly at this point, unless you just want to replace with gen for the aesthetic change and difference in feel.

For the 93250- I believe it does fit, but the SELs might not be as snug as a fit as the WM9 pieces. watcher did this swap on one of his WM9's, I seem to recall; I think he would be a good person to inquire on about this since he has first hand experience.

    For the 5513 stuff-

If you are looking for a dial, I might have one that may work for you. It's not perfect, but it's very usable.

The 5513 uses the 1520 inside- This is the non-chronometer movement. Beat rate is 19800bph, so any 2846 or 2783 will be a close match (slightly faster at 21600bph).

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    //ubi

Thanks for your answer Ubi. That is exactly what I was looking for. It is not that i want to stay in the EU but i think it is wiser (you never know). I heard about Domi already so i'll probably contact him soon.

As for you 5513 dial, i'm not sure i'll launch the project right away (for money purpose) but send me the details via PM. It is always good to have a general idea. Is it the dial you posted about earlier this afternoon? Because apart from texture, it is quite well done! :drinks:

  2. Dear fellow members,

Today, after a lot of research, i need your help on a few matters.

The first one concerns my WM9 BK V3 16610:

    1) Installing gen tube and crown and shaving CG's:

Ok, so this is a great rep and i'm very happy with it. Already got a gen insert that fitted perfectly in the bezel. Now, i want to take it a step forward. That would be gen tube, gen crown and shaving those CG's that are a bit too long for my taste (and probably for everyones taste :drinks: ). Since I seriously lack any skill whatsoever to take up this mods myself without risking to screw everything (and I mean everything), could anyone (in Europe if possible since i'm located there but wouldn't bother the US) indicate me a modder or come forward willing to take up the deed? Also, if anyone could indicate to me how much would this kind of mod cost me?

I have a hint to where to get the gen tube and crown that i need. So all i am asking is someone who would have the time and the skill to shave my CGs a bit as per gen and install the gen crown and tube (maybe i would need a new solid stem as well, but i really don't know anything about this).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    2) Since my bezel is starting to show some disfunction (normaly unidirectional but between 10 and 55 it became bi-directional with time :black_eye: , don't know why but after all it is just a rep so i assume it is quite normal.

If someone had a spare gen bezel assembly to sell (i remember a few weeks back a member had purchased two sets but wasn't sure they were both genuine - so if they are and that you don't need both, please come forward :victory: ).

The only thing for the gen bezel is that i am waiting for a good price since it is definitely not a priority, the one i have for now does it for me.

    3) general question: does a gen 93250 would fit the WM9 case and if yes, how much does a 93250 cost? Or for that matter, would a 93150 with 580 endlinks fit as well even if it is not correct for a Z serial because i think that 93150 are cheaper than 93250? Any advice?

Hope i didn't lose you already, but for the members with whom i have already discussed, they know i tend to write A LOT !!! So i apologize for that !

    Second: 5513 project.

I have been pondering a 5513 project for a while now. I came to a conclusion: at first, i wanted to do a 5513 milsub but the more i gathered info the more i was discouraged. Even the NDT dial doesn't do it for me at all (the T is just wrong, wrong place and wrong typo) and it saddens me to spend $350 on something that is just not good enough. I don't know anything about the cost of having a dial printed but i discarted this option pretty early on. At this point, i was going to get a 5513 fantasy with fixed lugs and sword hands. But then, i saw some 5513 and the stainless steel bracelet does do it justice. So i decided to go the 5513 simple route. Same old same old: spending $350 for a dial, even for a good one, is kind of no go for me. I have lost the opportunity to get UBIs or JoJo35s when they were selling one and since then, i thought about it real hard.

    So my two questions are:

    1) What would you think about a 5513 project classical but with a gen later dial (WG surroundings)? I found a spider one at

  3. Congratulations on a great find! Great history too!

As for the clasp, the S plus the DE10 really is STRANGE and exciting at the same time! Keep us posted on any outcome regarding this matter! It is almost as good as looking to good old thriller!

  4. I tend to agree with chieftang. Not a real investment. However, if your in the shorter term, you can easily plan for the Tudors such as the snowflakes and all which are currently undervalued compared to their rolex counterparts to gain value in the near future. Therefore, IMHO, you'd better buy one of these beauties rather than a very recent rolex. Plus, the vintage appeal is like no other! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Hope that helps,

  5. BK will be your choice. Although he is in the US, there is really little to no risk custom speaking. I ordered a V3 from BK like two months ago. He shipped it through the UK and everything was fine!

Also, just to let your mind at ease, other members didn't bother to get their package rerouted through the UK and still got it! Ask BK directly, he'll be able to share with you his experience as to shipping watches depending on countries. But i think most of Europe is fine. BK is a great collector and, just to share some experience with you, i was glad to put my trust in hum as so many other members did.

    Hope that helps,

  6. P.S. Kent2- If you're willing to pay for postage, I'd be more than happy to age your insert for you :)

That is an offer i would certainly welcome for my incoming 5513 project!

Did i mention that your work amaze me as all the participations and suggestions such as Teejays, Chieftangs, Gorilladames!

I get so much inspired from your posts to build the perfect project for me! Thanks again guys :victory:

  7. Let it bottom out in the bezel. It should be slightly recessed per the gen. If it is a snug fit, then no glue. Definitely not gorilla glue!! If anything, GS Hypo cement.

SOOOOOOO, a big thanks to chieftang which inspired me to do the good thing !

I just installed the gen insert on my V3. It is spot on! It fitted right in, slightly recessed per the gen (i checked a gen yesterday to make sure of it). I don't see how it could move! Don't know if i got lucky but really a great fit! Same as with the inlay that comes with the V3!

    Pictures coming up soon...

But now, i don't know what to do with the insert i have. Maybe an experiment for vintagizing the whole thing...we'll see!

  8. +1

I couldn't find any direct info about this either. I did find a some mention of other reps being sold as MBW, when they were not, I guess this could have started the rumours.

I have a very recent MBW from Narikaa, the case is threaded at 3mm for the tube, so takes a gen tube and crown.

The movement is 2836, which means that a 2824 won't fit properly, and the crown is close to the back of the case. This can make it difficult to countersink the tubes for a new, bigger, 7mm crown.

Inserts click in to the bezel fine, but I've used a little glue to make sure they are secure. The bezel is the gen construction, but I haven't tried to see if a gen bezel will fit. I'm very tempted to get an aftermarket one from NDT, because the machining is a bit weak and shallow around the edge of the MBW bezel.

Tropic 19 crystals fit but can be too tight, so either the crystal or retaining ring need filing.

26mm dials, both Yuki and MBW, have room to move about a bit, so I think a very slightly larger dial might fit.

I don't know where it came from but a couple months back i started reading stuff about new MBW not being as good as the old ones. so :bangin:

Thanks for the info. A lot of stuff you said i actually needed to know ! Does it mean a 2846 will fit right?

  9. RM88,

I can't say with 100% certainty that gen parts fit on newer MBW's as I haven't bought one in years, but I suspect yes. The MBW bezel is okay.

    Thanks...again!

For the lug bars, do i need gen ones, normal, how does it work exactly?

  10. Thank you so much for all the info toomuchgear.

Yeah, i'll do a bit more research to see what config i'll choose for my project. But your input definitely helped !

Does anyone know if the new MBW 5513 case accept the same gen parts the old one did? Is it more difficult? Also, does anyone has a source for mbw cases, old or new apart from eurotimez (which is apparently not a reliable source anymore)?

Is the bezel any good on an MBW (old or new)? Would a newer MBW 5513 case would take a gen T19 without extensive mods?

Will welcome any help on this project. Also, if anyone know of a modder who would be able to do such a project in the EU, please tell.

  11. I'll say it: love the black insert!!!!!!!!! :whistling:

Just maybe less new would be perfect but, who would vintagize on purpose a gen rolex???

This model is one of my few love in the GMT MASTER family!

    Congrats

  12. Dear fellow members,

I am about to complete my WM9 V3 BK. I just received the gen insert. And i think that's the end of the way for me. No more modding. Done the bracelet and i'm quite happy with it.

So, before launching my new project (which i had in mind for quite some time), i'd like to get some advice.

A few months back, toomuchgear supplied a lot of information on a 5517 project.

So far, i came up with this as the "ingredients":

    - MBW 5513 case : $165 (But does new version is still a good thing or should i find an older one? What will really fit as for gen parts)

    - 2846 movement slow beat: $100

    - CWP insert: $120

    - CWP hands: $65

    - Clarks tropic 19 or gen tropic (i saw Jojo35 had one for sale): $90 or $125

Now, I need your help to find my way. I would like to achieve a great watch, limit to a minimum bad aspects (that is one of the reason why i'm getting rid of the bracelet). Plus, i love NATO straps.

Compulsory mods: gen fat spring bars attached to the case like ubi did for justasgood (i cannot do it myself unfortunately)

    Options:

    1) Go the 5513 Milsub route with sword hands and T Dial and 60minutes insert but won't get proper engravings on the back and CWP insert is quite pricey

    2) Go the 5513 with sword hands and 15minutes insert and T Dial

    3) Go the 5517 that was turned into a 5513 with sword or mercedes hand, 15 minutes insert and classic dial

PS: i just discovered that some 5517 got a 369 dial with the T, but i don't even know if a rep version does exist. Plus, i think i may be tired of it quite rapidly.

    Thus, my questions are:

    1) Is there a good 15 minutes 5513 insert not as expensive as the $120 for CWP (i don't mind about the pearl as i'll remove it)

    2) Are mercedes hands really cheapest than sword hands?

    3) What will fit? Does the CWP hands and insert would fit on the movement and on the bezel of the MBW?

    4) For the dial, i don't know where to find a good one. I feel that no T Dial good rep do exist out there but i may be wrong. Is there a good way to go for 5513.

Sorry for the mess, i, myself, am still confused with this project but i really want to see it through. I don't think i have the money right now to launch it right away but i need to get a clear mind before getting into it.

Also, if anyone know the price that a member or the zigmeister would charge to assemble and do all the mods (so i can take it into account on my budget, that would be really much appreciated. Mods would probably be the followings: service movement, assemble the watch, give a vintage look to the dial and maybe insert (but that i should be able to do it myself) and most importantly fix the lug bars.

Finally, i would love for this project not to be more than $1000-1200 (and if possible lower) that is why i have not taken into consideration a YUKI or NDT case. But i'm open to any suggestion! :drinks:

If anybody can refer to similar projects that have been completed and posted here, they are more than welcome.
