Maybe a list of the custom builders....DSN, Littlehero etc? Or what benefits you could expect buying from someone like that? Hell, I'm just brainstorming.

That's what I was wondering...if the $99 rep of a few years ago was anywhere near the $300 rep of today. Makes sense to me.

I guess I see the terms "Ultimate" being thrown around. I wonder if the quality has really gone up. I mean I'm seeing that they are trying to do the mods we do before we buy them. But it seems when they try to add double AR and such we still need to send it off to Chief to be re AR'd or they add lume but we still have to send it to Watchdog. Is their attempts at added benefits just making it more expensive in the long run. The initial cost is driven up but then we have to fix what they try to do. Is my rambling making sense?

Admittedly I'm new to the rep scene. But I'm starting to come around. My first rep was a DSN PAM and I paid a decent amount of money for it. 400+. But I understood that I was getting something that was put together by someone who knew what they were doing and did a good job of it. So the money was justified to me. I'm noticing now that more often than not, the watches I'm gravitating towards are 300-400+ reps. Is this a new trend? Should I expect this to be the norm? I guess I was expecting this to be a fun and reasonably affordable hobby. I mean 400 bucks will buy me a hell of a nice gen that I can actually take in the shower or pool. Are the rep manufacturers taking us for a ride or are we getting a substantially better product? Don't take my post the wrong way. I'm not attacking rep collecting or saying that I want out. I'm curious what the prices of reps were a couple of years ago. And are we feeding their greed? They see that we'll pay $400 for a rep that they were charging $150 a year ago?

The buckles are too spendy for me. But you have to appreciate the work that goes into 1. Damascus and 2. something that small and intricate. I personally love anything made of damascus. I had a guy make me a damascus wedding ring. Had to eventually go to titanium. The damascus rusted too much and....well it stunk. Wife hated the way it smelled.

Haha guess not. I generally like the simpler/cleaner looks of a non-chrono. I just couldn't resist the siren song of PVD.

Huh. It works as both of you say. So I have this right...the big main seconds hand just stays frozen at the 12? That seems pretty bassackwards. So if you want to see the seconds at night your SOL? Wow. That bugs me. Maybe a Breitlng isn't for me. I'm glad I don't need it serviced. Thanks for the education and quick responses!

Hey all. Got a question about my newly purchased Blacksteel. Long story short, the chrono won't stop running. When I push the Stop/Start pusher, the main second hand stops but the subdial seconds keep spinning. When I push the reset pusher everything resets back to 12 (including the main second hand) but then the chrono continues going. Am I doing something wrong here. I thought I understood how chrono's worked, is there a mechanical issue here?

He's making them. He says just email him and he'll make it for you. I guess he's not producing them until he has a customer. Oh and says he'll do them in Mokume as well.

I posted this a couple of places. I get around to various sites....not sure if everyone else does, so I figured I'd put it out there for everyone. I have no connection to this person, whatsoever. I'm just throwing this out here because I know how much we all love our straps. I've seen a lot of custom straps but never custom buckles. These looked really great. I came across this site http://www.aescustomknives.com/ while I was visiting another haunt of mine. If you notice he is now making a hand made Damascus steel buckle for PAMs. I PM'd him and he mentions that he is going to start making these buckles if there is a demand. Apparently he did this for a friend. He may also start making the straps once he determines that customers like them. He says, feel free to email him if you're interested.

Yeah he advertises SL. So far from my dark bathroom test it's nowhere near as bright as the lume on my Seiko Black Monster or Samurai. Those both glow bright and all night long. Maybe I'm spoiled.
