  1. Thinks feedback is a joke - if you want a $100 watch, don't say you'll take it then dither for 24hrs over payment..

  2. Thinks feedback is a joke anyway - if you want a $100 watch don't say you'll take it then [censored] around for 24hrs trying to decide whether or not to buy it [censored]-head..

  3. hi can you pm me? the system won't allow you to receive any new PM's...

  4. As above really.. always fancied a 6263 or similar daytona, but never quite saved enough for one of spins fabulous creations. received an email from trustytime this weekend with details of their new 6263 rep which now has correct asymetric pushers, 1:1 case, interchangeable with gen components, etc., etc.. Do any of the resident experts have any views or info on these pieces vs. gen? i prefer the second and third (white/black, or black respectively) versions at the following link.. trusty time 6263 daytonas look forward to your insights!
  5. I've had a search but not found what I'm looking for; hopefully someone can enlighten me! I've seen a lot of older seadweller and submariner pictures which have quite "slim" looking crown guards, but there appears to be a lot of variation.. I wondered if anyone could do (or has done) a comparison of replica CG's vs. Gen or a guide of what areas of rep crown guards are removed for that gen look.. I understand the overall feel / aim but I'm really struggling with the detail! Thanks in advance B Ps.. I was looking at a friends gen milsub and it's actually got slightly lop-sided CG's top vs bottom.. Were these hand shaped/finished on vintage rolex's, hence the variation watch to watch?
  6. No the movnt is screwed! I can swap a movement easilly enough so the build is fine but I have a guy who worked on the movement for my datejust franken who will do a full service and swap gears for
  7. I had a upo which I loved, but the crown-tube stripped. I replaced this with a gen crown/tube and then a month or so later the movement died. I tried a repair but it was beyond help (or my help anyway) I've not worn it since (obviously) but am starting to miss that beasty of a watch and thought about buying another. Then last night I thought, wouldn't it be better to spend the money on rebuilding what I have with cheif AR, a new movement and gen dial/hands?! anyway, im a bit stuck re: movement.. I believe the 45.5 UPO had a 2836-2 movement but I dont know what height the drive components of the movement need to be (H4 maybe?). Also not sure whether there is a better movement I should go after which would be a relatively pain-free replacement (i don't really want to have to make custom movement holders, dial spacer rings, etc. to correct stem position and things) Anyway, if anyones upgraded the movement in their UPO, or replaced and can give advice on hand wheel heights, datewheel mods, or anything else i should consider before i start collecting parts, i'd be really grateful.. b
  8. im bucking the PAM trend; wearing my new BR03 on gen nylon/velcro strap sorry for the iphone-fuzziness!
  9. it was a pretty easy fit as stilty mentioned; 2836 datewheel, sand down the disk thats on there, glue on the overlay was actually the hardest part for me; i had 30min epoxy and needed that amount of time to get the line-up just right.. so glad i spent that amount of time and effort on DW orientation now though, as it would have bugged the hell out of me if it was just out
  10. Awesome! I thought the date progression was backwards too but perhaps it's the crown direction to progress the date which is reversed with a cal.3035? A friend in the know said on Wednesday "the truth will out tomorrow" (ie when there was going to be a 6 on the dial) and then yesterday took one look at the date and said "hmm.." and walked off with a smile on his face! Really does add another correct, visible detail to the job.. I think a gen bracelet is the last missing piece really, other than that the only thing non-gen is the movement..
  11. Had a fiddle with the end links tonight, not a perfect fit but 95% there so very happy
  12. Thanks for the positive comments guys.. The one thing I'm a bit disappointed with is the bracelet but I had so many house bills this last couple months I've had to go with an aftermarket bracelet.. I might try and source him a gen one (or gen clasp and end-links at least) later this year to properly finish the job off.. To be honest they fit much better "on the wrist", lAying it down seems to exaggerate the issue! Wasn't necessarilly my cup of tea during the build but had toconcentrate on the fact it was for someone else, but now it's done I really like it.. Has a nice aged look to it, and after much deliberation oyster was definitely the right choice! Pres/jubilee would have looked too fussy I think and he doesn't like leather straps!

  14. i posted 12 - 18months ago wanting to build a franken for my dad for his 65th birthday and retirement, and asking for advice. i was steered down the datejust route, and this evening, 3 days before my dads 65th birthday party i finished building it! its been a slow project as i've been hunting for parts, learning as i go, but i've really enjoyed it and love the finished article; i just hope my dad likes it! thanks to everyone who's ever posted pictures, tutorials or information relating to datejusts, you've all helped (trust me; if you posted about a datejust, i read it over the last 12months! ). particular thanks to taxico and stilty for most of the parts and technical help, i couldnt have done it without you.. pics below, sorry they're not great i only have a crappy point and shoot camera.. ben

  20. can anyone recommend someone to do a couple of repairs on my watch for me in the uk? i just reipped the crown out on my trouser pocket and don't want to bugger it up trying to do it myself also, i could do with someone to fit dial/hands to a movement for me so if there's one person who could do both of these jobs i'd appreciate any recommendations!.. prefer in the uk, but EU should be ok too hope someone can help regards ben
