  1. Great looking mods your friend has done. not my cup of tea, as I'm a purist at heart, but open minded as well.

I certainly don't want to be misconstrued as taking the side of the RSC's and their policies. I agree that Rolex as well as all the other "luxury goods" manufacturers are selllig a whole lot of sizzle with a little steak! Rolex probably has around 500-1K max in a 16610 Sub which sells for 5k. That's a pretty darn big markup, but folks buy the heck out of them. And what they/you are buying is a very good quality mass produced watch. Rolex produces over 200,000 watches per year. I doubt that they have thousands of watchmakers turning out totally hand built watches in those numbers.

As far as the RSC's not servicing vintage, that is a partial truth. Some folks are still getting their vintage Rolexes serviced at RSC's, it depends on the service center, and the watch. Essentially what Rolex said several years ago, was that they were rapidly running out of parts for the vintage watches. Another thing that led to this decision, was the nature of vintages. Rolex doesn't want to send out a watch that they aren't positively certain about it's watertightness. That's hard to do with older more brittle plactic crystals, old seals and gaskets, etc. Also every watch coming in has a does and don't list that is a mile long. If by chance an employee doesn't see the instructions, and replaces the dial or hands, or polishes the case, against the customers wishes, Rolex catches lots of Hell from the client It's a lot easier to just say, "We don't service that particular model.

Hello there panerai153 yes you are correct what you have written here! dident rolex reclaim all there service parts for older watches i mean watches new vintage 1970s to 80s and this hepled launch the rolex generic parts suppliers?

rolexes are overpriced the rich buy them because they are marketed as luxuary and prestige and they want the best dont get me wrong i love rolex watches and i know they are top quality but can they justify the pricetag!

the other day i was in a watch shop looking at some straps and on the bench there was a submariner date pre 2006 for repair when i saw it i asked the shop who does that rep belong to and ask to handle it to me it looked like a fake apart from no sharp edges iv seen better looking reps but this was no rep it was a gen 100%, the dial looked tacky and the date mag dident look correct then the local rolex ad dropped in to collect the watch!for a repair and service. rep manufacturers has shown that they can produce a watch for next to nothing ok with eta movement granted but it wouldent take much too upgrade the rep to a close to rolex standard! as you say rolexes are a mass produed product but people still see them as 2 or three oldschcool watchmakers this simply is not true anymore!

when i was on holiday in the uk we visited a rolex AD in fact they only sold rolexes i was wearing a rep gmt oversized case from trusty we went there to have a look at there rolexes and prices

when the sale person noticed my watch and then started showing me there latest collection they couldent believe it when i told the its a fake! and then called the ad manager even he was impressed at the overall details and finish although he said he has never seen one only heard of them! rolex made some great looking watches over the years but i think the older vintage watches look much better, qualitywise with there guilt and white dials with non laser printing!

  2. I'd do that to a gen just to anger the repair center

yes that would be great love to see there face, yes those repair centres at rolx ad have to realise that you buy your rolex not rent it from them.....and when you pay 5,000 plus for a rolex from them they shouldent refuse to service your watch because you have installed a non rolex made part (generic) mabe you dont have much change left after forkin out that obsene amount but it was ok when you handed over your cash...i know someone who after damaging the gen strap bought a generic one rolex refused to ever service the watch again what has the strap got to do with servicing the watch? they said they would reconsider if you buy a new rolex braclet! another guy sent his 1987 rolex to the service centre because it kept stopping

they returned the watch to him in parts with a letter saying we regret to inform you that your watch can not be repaired as it is too old please go to you nearest rolx ad and purchase a new one!

  3. Hi,

I am currently wearing and loving my Submariner replica, it really surprised me when I got it! I purchased it from Narikaa (Reg) and I have nothing but praise for him and his products and service! Anyway, I have never really liked metal straps. My wrists are quite small, and I usually have to take out "one too many" links! I have seen a few Submariners on brown leather straps, but I have always thought instantly - this is fake...

I have seen a Rolex replica strap which isn't too expensive, hopefully the quality will be good! But my question is, will this ruin the look and make it so obivious that it is a replica watch? I would rather keep it to look as genuine as possible, but the Rolex strap itself isn't very good... surprisingly a genuine Submariner has a extremely cheapy strap! Considering the price; I would expect the bracelet to be better!

If anyone has a Submariner on a different strap, I would be extremely grateful to see a picture of it!

    Thank you.

  4. STOP! Government health warning! this topic is not for the faint hearted !only for the open minded!

My friend is a watch customiser! he can not leave a watch alone! almost all his watches have a unique custom made part or parts

Well we better keep our gens away from this guy!!!!

Some more of george loiz works!

Please note These watches are not meant to represent a rolex rep built to gen specifications but to show that using a basic

rolex rep you can custom build your watch to your own personal taste! we do not recommend you try this on your gen rolex! :clapping:post-27094-126488411021_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126488424829_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126488437114_thumb.jpg

  5. Something I've done in the past, was I had a NATO strap which came with a rep Submariner, and had a Rolex buckle. I just took the buckle off the NATO strap and fitted it to the 20mm rubber strap... Another option, is to buy a dirt cheap Rolex Daytona (available for about £30 shipped) and use that strap, which then has a Rolex deployant rather than a buckle :) For that cost, the watch itself could go straight in the trash...

yes teejay i agree about the £30 datonas iv seen them they look well made and the buckles are good too! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  6. The thing you have to remember when thinking about the Submariner bracelet, is that it was never originally built or intended to be a 'prestige watch', but a functional, rugged diver's tool, like a race car which has been stripped down for speed and only has a bucketseat and crash-frame inside: Such a car would not be good for taking the wife and kids shopping for groceries, but will smoke a soccer mom's SUV right off the line. It is the original function which must be considered :)

Of course, the one problem with leather straps, is they aren't waterproof... Sure, they look nice, but personally, I can't see the point in wearing a waterproof diver's watch on a strap which cannot get wet, meaning the watch would have to be removed before it can get wet. However, rubber is solves that problem..

There are some leather straps iv seen forgot the site, loisianna aligator strap that are water proof! but very expensive not everyone can wear stainless steel straps i like both myself leather straps were used in the 1950s replaced by there owners because the old style straps riveted with springs in the links were not very comfortable specialy if you have a hairy wrist like sean connery in DR No and i think from russia with love he wore his rolex on a crocodile or aligator strap its upto you anyway if you are like me you change your straps often! and i dont think a leather strap will make a watch look fake at all in fact it will, if anything make the watch look classy sort of dressy and sporty combined!specialy with a rolex buckle. wear your watch for yourself and not for others!

  7. No problem at all :) There are the bakelite bezels available on the bay, although the colors are quite a bit darker than !on the more modern inserts, but if you were meaning the brighter inserts, I think it would look fantastic :good:

Yes the bright bezel inserts would look fantastic say on a 70s to 90s gmt but the darker would go on a much earlier gmt mmm got me thinking about moddin my vintage gmt rep!

  8. All please see attached below i hope you find it useful

Great Reading and very helpful! we always need info when building frankens i wanted to put a yuki tudor rotor onto a 2836-2 eta

but yuki told me it only fits on a 2784/2824 movement any way at the shop we changed the 2836-2 rotor with a 1970s 2783 eta and viceversa they fitted and worked fine then i emailed yuki to let him know that the rotor will fit ! he was glad to know that actualy the gold colour 2836-2 with the nickle plated rotor looks ok together!unique too eta movement have had very little changes to parts over the years just certain improvements like the fasterbeat movements although i prefer on vintage reps the slower beat movements! thanks again FxrAndy :victory:

  9. Any time, and I really like the sound of your composite bezel idea :) For a glue, I would suggest the UV glue which folks use for attaching cyclopses to the crystal :)

Thanks teejay thats a great idea about the UV glue thanks again. aeromatic!!! :victory:

i just thought would be great to have one made for a vintage pepsi bezel!

  10. Clark T19 for me.

Wow! Great looking watch shawnbeaver! i want to replace my cracked t19 on my 5512 can you give me the clark site details i found a site hong kong based selling gen T-19 ( if they are gen) but cant remember the www for about 90usd whats the going rate for a new old stock gen t-19 can they still be found?

  11. Awesome work, I love the 6200 :victory:

(the Blancpain-style bezel is also fantastic :1a: )

Thanks teejay my friend will be very happy! i was thinking about getting him to make me a clear acrylic bezel insert cover for one of my watches you know curved like the blancpain and glue it to the existing bezel insert so you end up with an original rolex bezel with the look of the fifty fathoms blancpain the only problem will be if glue is used, it must be a special kind that dries like glass to keep the bezel insert clean looking! this insert cover will protect the insert from scrapes and knocks!

  12. Very nice project, faulty here n there as a Rollie rep, but an awesome watch, I'd seriously consider the idea of a new dial, with original logo or something, really an interesting model, specially that odd, but good looking crown. With a Sdome and an endlinked mesh bracelet, I'd def go for it. But that is personal.

    Keep us updated, mate.

Hi crab thanks mabe my friend (george loiz)will find time away from his projects to thank you himself! yes this is not meant to represent a vintage rolly in orginal factory state, this is a customised watch like a custom/hot rod car! there are classic car restorers and hotrodders mostly they dont mix but i bend both ways i can appreciate a great franken made to look like the gen and a customised watch i would consider putting in a custom made dial without any rolex markings my friend has made a awsome black dial with white markers! :victory:

  13. Once again, a lovely watch from Aeromatic.

May yuki be blessed fo his parts. Altho quite pricey, he makes some of the rarest vintage watches possible for awesome frankens.

    :clap3:

Thank you crab and hello there :thumbsupsmileyanim: i second that there yep yuki sure makes some rare stuff! at the moment tryin different straps on her, it stands out from my other watches iv forgot how much it cost! well almost! :victory:

im looking forward to a yuki tudor no date next project! aeromatic!!!

  14. Hi There ck5533 thank you! look forward to seeing your new project and good luck! i have never measured the crown my self yukiwatch has it as 7.5mm

but it looks more like 8mm to me! its big! the case i found it to be perfect after checking it with a lobe one of the best i have seen every thing fitted with ease this is very important thats why i bought all parts from the same dealer buying parts from different dealers is risky parts may or may not fit together well. thanks again!

hello ck we have just measured the brevet yuki crown i was correct it is 8mm not 7.50mm

    :thumbsupsmileyanim:

My friend is a watch customiser! he can not leave a watch alone! almost all his watches have a unique custom made part or parts!

apart from cosmetic touches he is an ace on waterproofing reps and is in process of makinmg his own helium escape valve

he has made some excellent acylic crystals for his watches very thick one too! some are flat some are domed fitted with custom made retaining rings.

he has made some great looking pearls, they always seem to fall of my "factory made" watches!

also he makes is own bezel inserts and his own crowns too!

  16. Hello Gang,

Puretime has now released the SD 1665 in a lot of variations.

There is also a Comex No date Sub with a SD Case that is wrong.

The great white has the wrong Caseback also.

But all in all they look good I think.

    Look here.

    http://puretimewatch.com/index.php?categoryID=306&offset=210

Hey they look good i like the slower beat movement better for vintage subs! some sites use the same photo for the same range so its best to ask seller to send you a photo of watch to see the actual caseback!

  17. Wow, Forrestal - that's a NICE insert. Did you age it yourself?

That looks like the bezel from CWP. Smooth it with a mild abrasive to remove the sharp edges, then do the Freddy333 oven/cookies baking trick, and you'll get close to the look of the original "white copper" bezel with the plating worn off.

hi i want more details about ageing a bezel not to extream measures just take off the blacker that black new look

and be left with a old watchlook that says the watch has been well cared for with a (nice old patina)
