  1. @lala even on a sandwhich dial you should remove old lume as you cant apply as much new lume without making it too thick to reassemble the whole reason you're reluming is that the old lume is not good enough so why not use the full amount of space you have by getting rid of the old bad stuff
  2. I think it's like classic cars. You could buy a shell and then spend lots and lots of money getting original parts, restoring it, getting custom made stuff to fit and eventually end up with something kinda like the original. Then comes these kit car companies who will sell you the thing which is 99% the same as original for a small percent of what it would take to do the job yourself. Its different but the insane expense of getting all that done yourself is a barrier of entry to a lot of people. To get the ultimate franken would be the same now as it was before (gen dials, hands, crystals, etc.) but those who would rather get 95% there instead of 99% can do so at minimal cost. They can also take up relatively minor mods without very much at risk. Because of these cheap reps I can safety go and try to relume my dial, fiddle with my movement or reshape my crownguard without thinking (damn if i fk this up this will mean a month's rent).
  3. further clarification i broke the retention spring/wire, not the 3 pronged clicky ring
  4. Sorry, forgot to specify what watch it's the 42mm Planet Ocean
  5. does the gen retention spring really not fit on the rep bezel ? Why not ? my rep spring is rusted though and i need a replacement
  6. Sent a PM Hopefully I'll finally be able to bring my baby back from the grave Never swimming in the ocean with her again.. Atleast not without a healthy application of silicon grease
  7. Gen bezel spring fit on rep bezel? Hey guys While taking my bezel off after noticing it was getting harder to turn I found that the rep retention spring was rusted and while examining it it broke clear in half. I'm hoping to get a gen retention spring but I heard from someone that the gen bezel spring might not fit the rep bezel. I was alsohoping to pick up the gen click ring instead of using the rep "button" but am concerned about whether this fits as well. Was hoping someone who has had experience building a 42mm would know whether the gen parts fit?
  8. if you can get better pics of what yours looks like under direct light that'd be great i'm no photographer and the best camera I have is my iphone so I doubt I can give you guys better pics figure i might take mine apart one day and lightly sand the lume plate, maybe that will give it a more matte finish I've got next to no experience with taking watches apart though so it's not something I'll attempt for a long time. Not till there's something already broken which would warrant me taking it apart.
  9. Just received this watch and I didnt pick up on this from QC images. It looks like the lume has an orange peel surface to it. This normal ? Anyone experience something like this before ? It's only visible at certain angles as well.
  10. when is it "sometimes no" i'm looking to get a noob 111 and 005 when they're available but if one dealer has something different than the other on anything other than strap choices I'd like to know
  11. Hey guys I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on my first PAM rep and just wanted to check with you guys on this final detail. I've set out to get a PAM111 but dont know which model to get, as far as I know there's the M, J, and H. The H has the 21600bph movement but the M and J are supposedly better (newer ?) Havn't seen any reviews or critiques of what is wrong with the H. Between the M and the J though I think I'd rather go with the J as I am not planning on modding any time soon and the crystal on the M is suppose to be much better. So which is it, the 111M or 111H that's "better". I know this stuff is pretty much to each his own but I'd appreciate any input from you guys.
  12. Hey everyone, Was just wondering if 4th gen and 5th gen PO (42mm) bezels and retention springs were interchangeable. I fked mine up bad and need a replacement but 4th gen parts are unavailable anymore.
  13. Hey guys, I've been looking to get a couple extra straps sized 17mm with the quick release spring bars ("http://www.ofrei.com/images/b585-10-18rback.jpg") Its for a gen Philip Stein Presteige and the gen straps are like 200+ USD and I could use any help you provide. Seen a few places that have quick release straps, some places with 17mm straps but next to none that are quick release AND 17mm. Many thanks !!
  14. hey guys I'm permanently based in HK and I'd be interested in going up to shenzen with anyone on a rep shopping trip if you guys want. I haven't actually been to the Lo Wu mall ever and I'm itching to get myself a few Panerai and IWC reps. Send me a PM to organize a trip, who knows we could make this a monthly thing !!
  15. Damn, the more I read about how to maintain these watches the more I realize what I've been doing wrong. I can hear the rotor turn as I hand wind my planet ocean with the 2824-2. I know this is a problem with the 7750s with the reversing wheel and wonder if this is what's happening on the 2824-2. Now I'm leaning towards not doing anything until these things die. At $100 for a service from The Zigmeister plus I don't know how much to fix the sh*t I've messed up I could just buy a new rep or replace the entire movement later. What do you guys think ?
