I have several 2846 lying around here .. if you need.  The two 1575 GMT I have, were acquired when the prices were manageable ... I had a local Rolex service center overhaul that one I show in the photo.  The other one I'm keeping as a spare.   The 1655 build I have will mostly be hybrid.  I'm just OCDing right now about whether I should break open a GEN 116 blister packed crystal ... or ... should I just go with a Tropic T19 No-Cyclops on it ... to try something new on 1655.

The crown, tube, bezel and dial will all be GEN .... in my build, I'm more interested in what appeals to me ..than about trying to be as close to genuine.   The Priek crystal case back is a nice add on .. in my opinion.

I've put it off for so long ... but I mostly have it completed.   It will be a hybrid build .. I'm not going for the full on trying to make it look genuine.  The hand set does not match the year of the dial .. no matter, I like the straight minute hand compared to the usual 1655 secs hand.  Crown and tube, crystal... will be genuine Rolex parts.

I did realize back then that the 1655 bezel that Phong puts out is not GEN Spec, even though he swears by it.  I don't know, maybe today's bezel ... so I had to find a used genuine, which you can tell are thicker.  So it made me reluctant to by any future parts from him.

"I have a DW 1680 case set.  Looking for parts, gen-spec ... not Yuki."

    If 'DW' = David Wong...

I have a few DW 1680 cases and the main thing that is close to gen-spec on them is the case back on most of them.  The case necks are a hair too small in diameter and the case sides are rounded like a DJ.  All of mine came with spring wire bezel sets, not snap on like oem and because of the undersized case neck, fitting crystals can be a problem.  Some DW cases also have undersize case back threads...oem is 30.9mm and most of my DW cases are 30.9 but some are 30.4mm.  All of mine came with the gasket groove cut in the case back like genuine.  The overall quality is good imho, other than spec accuracy.

Later Yuki 55xx and 1680 cases were very good imho.  I read somewhere they came from VN but do not know if it is true or not.

Afaik they have been discontinued for quite a while.

"Would it be better to go with MQ instead?"

If it was me, I would keep after Ruby for a while...to save $$.

I pick that up that DW case set on Repgeek ... few months ago

I did pick up a Phong 1655 midcase many years age, his bezel was not equivalent to Genuine, so I found a Gen 1655 bezel with a ding... most the other Gen parts for the case I collected over the years, including 1570 GMT movement (posted over at the new HF)

I always remember Phong use to justify his expensive parts, and cases on using better stainless and specs compared to Yuki ... he would say "yuki ws garbage" .. LoL

I'm waiting for Ruby to reply ... because I want to see what they have for a complete 1680 bezel.   Otherwise a GEN 1680 bezel assembly with insert runs about $1000 ... then I have to send it to Necky for case machine and placement

As far as what I see ... all the new and "close to spec" vintage Rolex case sets are coming from Vietnam ...

I have GEN White 1680 dial MK5 ... just need to get a hand set

  4. Look for VN gen spec parts ... already have Yodog builds, Phong cases.  I have a DW 1680 case set.  Looking for parts, gen-spec ... not Yuki.

Rubyswatch not replying to my email  ... not sure if they were still active.

  5. Would like to see some photos and of the inside spring-bar tubes.

It's a shame, because the ones I bought from him last year had the "580" etched instead of stamped/engraved...like they should be. Also, I think these new ones allow for the fatter GEN springbars to fit.

They are quit good for the price

I will post a comparison shot with some gen 580

Engravings is correct (PT is not)

  6. What would suck is that if for $5, the Clark Crystal is the same offering..........my belief on Rolex parts on ebay is....unless it's in the sealed Rolex packaging....it's not Rolex.

My question is....how could he have so many so-called "Rolex" crystals out of packaging??? That's like the Adam Sandler movie where the electronics sales guys says...."it's not Sony, but it's has "Sony Guts".....:D

  7. Chinese do not use "Stanford Materials".....and "synthetic sapphire" = "mineral"..........don't get lost in the details and scientific definition of sapphire...and don't give any of these factories the benefit of the doubt....if it's "sapphire", they will list is as such....if it's "mineral", they will try and sugar coat it and re-term it...aka "synthetic sapphire"

  8. The crystal has good mag....my stock one has no AR, but the cyclops is a little sketchy....I would have to order one of these from DSN and see how the cyclops compares.

Also, waiting for Taka...he's suppose to put out an actual 2893 DW? (although the 2892 will fit)

hehe, I don't think Domi has anything to worry about!

Pretty sure it's the old school Honpo/EL case, and yes, this is DSN's latest one piece 6mm crystal....

  9. very cool indeed, you're gonna put Domi outta business ...I have the same 63, but with some other parts...but in the end, it's my favorite PAM after the 29b and 57c...my favorite are sweep second PAMs

So the DSN crystal you used is his latest version with the 6mm cyclops? Is it a DSN or EL case?

  10. Microtech or other automatic knives can be bought online...the UTX-70 is a small version compared to some of the other models like the Halo or Troodon....anyhow, you can buy it, even at a Gun & Knife Show....but if you want to carry it out in public, you better have a concealed weapons permit (at least in Florida)...and is subject to concealed weapons permit restrictions, just like a hand gun.

I have the Ultratech Tanto blade....it's bigger and a real nifty pocket knife...though I use it mostly for opening letters at home :D ...and I do have a CCW permit.

  11. it's a tube pusher and presser....it's actually smaller than it looks in the photos....one side it for pushing out all manner of case tubes...like those on panerai and rolex daytona chrono tubes...any tube that is not screwed.

The other side is a press for pressing in the tubes....

both side have delrin plastic pieces to prevent scratching and marring of tubes....Fransciso over on RG uses this press extensively for various tasks...and as a small parts vise
