  1. This is certainly one that you wouldn't see every day on the street! I may spring for one later, but I have to get rid of a few. Too many watches, not enough cash!! This is a tough time for me, Anniversary in Nov, Mrs. A's birthday in early December and then Christmas!! Two grown kids and 5 grandkids so Christmas is a big event for us. (Translated, expensive!!!) 2. Don't tempt me Mr A!! I did see that one, it is a really beautiful watch. My question, is this a rep of a real AP or is this a fantasy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks very much guys, This is and amazing place, I learn something new every time I log on here. Another thing that I have found, which is something that we try to impart in noobs when they first arrive, is that if you have intellectual curiosity, the answer is out there!! I quite often read something here, and then "Google" it and you would be amazed at the wealth of information there is out there. Sometimes it's a little difficult to separate the grain from the chaff, but everything increases your knowledge base. This group of AP's is probably all that I will get, I feel like I have most of the bases covered. The 44mm ROO's are just a little too big for me, so these should fill the bill. I have discovered one thing, I was not liking my ROO chronos at all, just too uncomfortable, and then I tried one with a tang buckle rather than the deployant, made all the difference in the world.
  4. At my age, I will probably buy few new watches. Hard to justify more when I have over 40 watches in my watch boxes. I have a Fair number of gen watches, and I wouldn't trade a one if them. I believe the OP has a valid point in that you can spend the cost of the watch in service. But on the other hand if you shop around, you could probably get a better deal than what you spent on service. The upside is the gen retains a lot of value, whereas the rep 20 Years down the road will have very little value if any. So that needs to be factored into the equation as well. Someone also brought out the point that with the ever increasing price high end reps are rapidly approaching the price of mid range gens, especially if you factor in modding costs. It's pretty easy to spend a thousand dollars or more on a modded rep and at the end of the day, it's still a rep. For these prices you are well into the category of some very nice gens, especially the boutique brands. Watch life doesn't stop with AP, Rolex, Patek and other high end brands, there are some really high quality brands that are available for the price of a modded rep. These are well received, salable in quite a few sales forums, and nice watches to wear as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Ken, that is priceless!! Please send 100 copies to Ezio, sounds like he's gonna need them Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Beautiful build. One of my favorites!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Great job!! That's what so nice about starting with a good case set, you can raise the bar as quickly or as slowly as you want, and always have a good base to build on.Ziggy did the same HE valve mod on my 1665, and I have been very happy with it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I believe that this one is legit, would like a movement photo to reassure. My reasons are: Never saw a rep with a "nipple" dial like this. Also this one has the correct 5.3mm crown and it fits perfectly inside the CG's. I can't tell whether the dial has damage, but something is going on with the crystal at about 1 o'clock. Almost looks like their is plastic covering the dial? Also I believe the bracelet has been replaced as the old 1675's from that time period would have had a folded link bracelet. The 78363 didn't appear til the mid 70's Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Just wanted to thank all of you who made the recommendations as to the best new AP FC available. I got an email today from a long time forum member who is quite ill and not very active anymore. He wanted information on which FC he should buy. Thanks to this thread and all of you who posted recommendations, I was able to steer him in the right direction. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Ok, here is the view from the devil's advocate. First off, the crown is way too big. The 1675 used a 5.3 mm crown. Yours is either a 6mm or 7mm. I have a gen 16750, which is basically the 1675 with a quickset movement. The end links on the 16750 are 580's. The bracelet is a 78360. The early 1675's came with either 7836 bracelets or Jubilee's so the jubilee is correct. If you go over to the Rolex forum, there is a sticky "bracelet and endlink guide" it lists all the models and the correct bracelet/endlink combinations. The 1675 is a difficult mod, primarily because all the rep cases use the bigger crowns and when you replace them with the correct crown, the gap between the crown and the crown guards is a giveaway. Here is my 16750 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Nanug, those rules are priceless. And are perfect for the fathers who have nubile young daughters, who are the object of affection of every testosterone filled young buck that comes down the pike. It would be good to have these copied in large print so all of them can read the rules, and not use the excuse later that the rules were all "small print" and ignored. I have a friend who had three daughters, he has a very large Bowie knife hanging on his study wall. He always invited his daughters dates into his study before they went out on their first date. He had a cabinet filled with guns, and lots of trophy heads mounted on the walls. They almost always were drawn to the beautiful knife. When asked "what do you use that knife for"? His answer was "to cut your nuts off if you mess with my daughter"!! Nuff said. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. No, but they come up on M2M sales from time to time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I am probably twice as old as most of you folk here. I've seen all of this unfold, and there have been countless discussions over the years about who can and can't pull off wearing reps of expensive watches. Every situation is unique, and it's pretty darn difficult to be able to type cast people into neat little categories. None of us have special intuitive powers that6 enable us to look at someone and immediately size them up as to what they are worth, and whether or not they are able to afford the watch they are wearing, the handbag they are carrying, the shoes they wearing, etc. And to be perfectly frank, I don't care. I' don't give a whit about what car someone drives, their clothes, houses, jewelry or where they vacation. Just doesn't interest me at all. I also am not trying to impress anyone, so I wear what suits me, I drive a vehicle that I can easily get serviced in my small home town (Drove BMW's Mercedes and Range Rovers for years until I woke up and realized that I was a slave to vehicles, what with all of them requiring a 100+ mile drive to the nearest dealer for every problem or service). Just not worth the effort!!) Live in a nice house, with a beautiful wife, and I'm as happy as a clam. What legend said above is absolutely correct. I have friends that have Millions, they liver in nice houses, but not mansions, they drive reasonable cars, and most only over indulge when it comes to the things they really care about. If they are not into cars, they probably drive a Ford or Chevrolet, Honda or maybe a Mercedes or Lexus. They might well drive their Toyota pickup to the airport to get on their Citation IV to fly to St. Thomas for a week on their 120 foot yacht.(Real friend, real truck, real plane, real yacht!!) If you didn't know they had these expensive toys, you would never ever think they were super wealthy. Several others in the same category, some like cars, one of my colleagues is and avid race car driver. He has a Fords GT-40 and a supped up Corvette in his garage, as well as no telling how many race cars that he owns/drives in vintage racing events all over the country. His everyday car, a beat up old single cab Chevrolet pickup!! This guy has plenty of money, but if you were around him for a week, you would never know it unless you engaged him about racing, then you might get some idea as to what he 's worth by the number and quality of cars he owns!! So like was said above, you can't judge a book by it's cover. There are lots and lots of very wealthy folks in this world who chose to "fly under the radar" for whatever reasons. Perfect examples of these people are folks like Sam Walton ,the founder of WalMart who drove a Chevrolet Pickup up until his death, and Warren Buffet who still lives in the same house that he has owned for years, and drives a regular old plain vanilla car every day. The list of these folks could go on for pages. So don't automatically assume that the Gold Rolex is a replica just because the guy gets out of his truck dressed in jeans and t-shirt. On the other hand if a 17 year old kid gets out of his Honda Civic to deliver a pizza to my door, I would probably be skeptical of his Rose Gold AP. And then again, even in this situation, I might well be wrong!!
  15. I think you will like it, it's still my favorite of the bunch.
  16. This time last year didn't have a single AP. Saw the FC diver , liked it, bought one, rest is history.
  17. 1. There are no "cheap" 7750 alternatives. to the A7750. The Swiss alternatives are all going to cost you 300+ up to close to or above 500 USD depending on the dial/date configuration. There are no 7750 alternatives to the sec @12 that the AP ROO uses, their is and alternative movement, however it requires modifying the case to be used. 2. One of the best alternatives if your watch uses a 2824 movement, is to replace it with the Seagull ST 2130. this is a very good quality movement, definitely on par with the ETA 2824's for around 100.00 USD for a brand new sealed movement. I have two of these in AP ROO divers, and they are very accurate. Personally, I would not buy a "Swiss ETA" movement in a modern rep. Just too many shenanigans going on with these, from old worn out movements "cannibalized" from used watches, amalgam movements using some ETA parts and some Asian parts, to out and out fraud where the movement doesn't even have any ETA parts at all. You are going to pay a premium price for something that you hope is what you paid for, but more than likely isn't. Buy the Asian movement, and if it's a watch that you like and intend to keep and wear, swap it out for a serviced ETA from a used watch, buy a new ETA, or buy one of the other brands available like Seagull, Sellita, Soprod, etc.
  18. If you are not a purist, then what you did makes perfect sense. You have a new watch essentially, with the option of easily returning it to it's original configuration. You do need to get the small GMT hand back though, they are quite valuable. In it's present configuration it's more usable. I would try to find a nice 78360 bracelet and either 280 or 580 end links. Keep and eye out over on the vintage Rolex Market, they come up for sale all the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. This is the wrong forum for sales. You need to post it on the sales forum. You need to upgrade your membership to VIP to post in the sales forum. No "back door" sales allowed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I recently bought a brand new ETA 7750 on eBay. I paid 365.00 USD for it.,it is the elaborate grade. I agree with Automatico, the A7750 movements are probably the most unreliable movements around. I have had more problems with three or four of these movements than all of the other movements I own combined, around 40. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I agree completely. I have a Gold DW Daytona for sale on the sales forum. The guy who sold it to me PM'ed me yesterday to tell me he could get one just like mine from DW for 450.00 USD (I paid him 650!!) I told him, go for it, and when you send him your 450 by WU and you get nothing back or and empty box or a half done sterile dial watch, you will get what you deserve. He offered to buy mine back for 450 by the way. I wouldn't trust DW as far as I could throw him, which I assure you wouldn't be far!
  22. There are not many folks who like to work on the A7750 movements. First off, need to know which one it is. A conventional A7750 that quite a few chronos use is the easiest and most reliable. There are two "time bomb" movements that are variations of the A7750 the first is the sec@6 movement used on modern Rolex Daytona reps, the second is the sec@12 that is used on the AP ROO chrono reps. There are even less who will work on the last two. One of the big problems is the lack of parts. Genuine 7750 parts are easy to find and relatively inexpensive. The A7750 parts are not readily available, so most of the guys who work on them have a box full of movements that they use for parts. I would suggest that you go to the watch repair/ mod section of the various forums and PM the watch repair guys and ask if they can work on your movement.
  23. Your question sir is one for the ages. The definitions seem to be quite flexible depending on which forum you visit, and whether you are a buyer or seller!! I believe that we here on this forum are a bit stricter in our definitions, but they are definitely open to interpretation! But to partially answer your question, I would say that a franken has several crucial genuine parts, let's use Rolex for example. I have a Rolex day/ date it has a genuine dial, Tudor hands, genuine bezel, crystal and crown. Is it a super franken? Not in my estimation, as it has an after market case and movement, also an aftermarket strap w/ a gen buckle. It's a very nice watch, and highly frankened, but not a super franken. Most folks here believe that to have a super franken, the preponderance of parts have to be genuine. So let's say you build a Rolex 1680, MBW case, bezel, genuine insert, pearl, dial, hands 1570 Rolex movement w/ gen open 3,9 Silver DW,gen crown, gen 580 endlinks, gen 9315 or or 93150 bracelet/clasp. That sir is a super franken in my estimation. In the truest sense of the word, to a purist on a genuine forum, a "Frankenstein is composed of all genuine, but non matching parts. We obviously have a somewhat looser interpretation here. Hope this helps.
  24. I have a hard time with QC photos as well, but from the looks of it, it looks pretty nice. Best way to me is download some photos of gens in approximately the same angle and really look at each segment of the dial, hands, case, crystal, and Cyclops, etc. What version is this one?
