  1. nice strap & buckle. does this come with a board game by any chance?
  2. blackbard... thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. DARE I ASK ANOTHER QUESTION... what would you use on a strap like this (gator) to waterproof it BUT NOT DARKEN the leather. I was told that silicone spray won't darken it (not sure if that is good for gator). I've used mink oil which is a super waterproofer BUT DOES Darken the leather.
  3. Mike, thanks for the suggestion, i hadn't thought of that and i know a shoerepair that might be up to the task.
  4. Hi all, I have a gator strap with a couple repair issues, the most pressing is a small tear at the tube end. I have not stitched a leather strap before, but it seems to me that a stitch or two might be the solution. Any suggestions on what type of needle to use, what type of thread, where to source these and how easy/difficult it is to put a stitch through a fairly hefty strap like this? Any thoughts are welcome! Thanks.
  5. i have th is jules audemars from eddy, and from the pic on trusties site it looks to be the same one--if it is, it is very close to the gen. a few very minor differences in the markers and framing of the date window, but otherwise extremely gen in appearance. i had k2222 double a/r coat my crystal and that makes the very fine details of the face come out more clearly -- it's a worthwhile mod on this watch. i also acquired a 5mm sapphire cyclops for the date window, which clearly is not a feature of the gen, but made the date far more readable for me. put a high quality black croc strap on it and know one will be able to distinguish it from a gen.
  6. use the search feature, there have been plenty of discussions of the SC straps here. here's a link to pics of mine: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry454177 if your wrist handles a 44mm case, the SC strap should fit ok, i'm referring to the 80 / 130x24mm. sc straps come with 2 keeps, you may want to use only one.
  7. chris, the first quality rep you should purchase is an MBW 1680. have it lumed by The Zigmeister and mod the CGs if necessary. after collecting reps and gens for yrs i bot an mbw and realized how much higher the quality is of that watch vs. 95% of all other reps. i am now only acquiring/building very special watches and will at some point let go of the dozens that sit lining a display case. good luck and don't make the mistake many noobs do of going out and buying everything in sight for 6 mos, then realizing that the thrill of the hunt wears off (quickly in some cases) and you wind up with a pile of watches you are not totally in love with.
  8. love them. beast 1... very cool. the chunkier the better...
  9. what are those white plastic circular things called... where would i find them at HD?
  10. doc, If you are using protein supplements and creatine, let me make one thing EXTREMELY clear. You must have a physical exam with urine and blood test after 3 or 4 months, to make sure you are not causing damage to your kidneys. EVERY serious competitive weight lifter or bodybuilder knows this, but many amateurs do not. About 1 week BEFORE having the physical, discontinue any creatine supplements, as these will throw off the results and cause an unusually high creatinin reading. My sister is both a registered dietician and physical therapist and has studied sports nutrition extensively. As you begin weight training, your body becomes more efficient in utilizing the protein in your diet to build muscle. However you may want to add a protein shake with 20-30grams of protein following your workout if you are building up. A rule of thumb for weight training (provided you are in good health) is to consume 1.5g-2g of protein per 1kg of bodyweight. So if you weigh 220lbs (100kg) you would consume 150-200g/day of protein -- this figure includes all food you consume during the day including the supplement. Personally, I would suggest the low end of that range. As for the wide range of supplements out there claiming to provide anabolic benefits (i.e. increase muscle building), aside from steroids (which will damage your kidneys), the only supplement shown to have significant verifiable benefit is creatine -- you can read up on the subject, if you take a look at research by Dr. William Evans (http://www.sportsnutritionworkshop.com/evans.htm). As for myself, i weight train and after using creatine monohydrate (and not really enjoying trying to dissolve it in water and that not so pleasant taste) i switched to cee (MRI CE2) and have been happy with the results. I also take a whole food vitamin (not a megadose), fish oil, and a supplement for joints. I eat a ton of veggies, balanced with lean protein and go light on carbs. Before workouts I eat a half or full powerbar and drink lo-cal FRS which provides 1/2 cup of coffee's worth of caffeine. Good luck, and DO be careful, there's a lot of junk out there masquarading as nutrition or loaded with caffeine which is expensive and should be avoided.
  11. "ditto" nanuq hit it on the head. p4gtr -- come on now, let's keep this sick crap off the boards, do we really need this garbage on the forum?
  12. i visited europe in 1985, the US dollar was at an alltime high. so during a weekend trip thru switzerland i stopped in zurich and went into a jewelery store. the USD price for a ss datejust was about $300, so i bot 3 (two for friends and family and one for myself). i only gave one away. one i sold in 2005 for $2000 and the other i still own today. the funds from the one i sold paid for several reps, including a pam 27 and 29 and also a fm 2892.
  13. cib, as the earlier reply points out, the mini-fiddy is a fantasy. however, i always liked the look of the fiddy with its simple, understated case and dial, but don't wear 47mm cases because they are too big. the match up with a heavily grained gator strap is what I was looking for.
  14. i believe angus carries them, although most of the dealers could probably find one for you... check with josh too. i got mine at a fair price from twp and didn't have any problems although from what i've read he had his fair share of detractors and isn't around.
  15. love it... scary thing is, i'm becoming more fascinated with SC straps than watches
  16. mjm, excellent. each one of these straps is a piece of art. i've been wearing mine all week and it is the most comfortable strap i've ever owned. i did opt to use only one 'keep' as two seemed like a little overkill. congrats!!! gnarly.... yehhhhhhh
  17. For those of you who have been following this saga... some good news. After getting a nice mini, having the dial relumed by Zig and dbl A/R coating from K2222, my crystal exploded. I had also had my eye on a gator strap from SC, which took 3mos to get my hands on. As replacement for the mineral crystal, I ordered 3 varying height of domed plexi's from cousinsuk (37.2mm) to see how they fit/looked. During the past week everything landed--the strap, plexi's, and I did a sanding touchup of the brushed case and also dremeled & polished the bezel. Had already hot-glued the CG, which is nice and tight. The really good news, is that the high-domed sternkreuz plexi from cousin's looks virtually identical to the original glass crystal, fits perfectly (tight) and doesn't risk 'explosion'. I can also confirm that the mid-height plexi and convex plexi also fit extremely well in this case and look good. In fact, the convex is actually a very interesting look, as it creates a very low profile look to the watch but still has a somewhat curved profile (as opposed to being a totally flat crystal). I also have a 'bullseye' crystal en route, which may be thick enough to provide crack resistance and also lend itself to a/r coatings (that's probably a month or more down the road). In the meantime, here's the current project with SC strap...
  18. carlsbad, thx for bringing this to our attn. i am interest in one or more to be used as a carrying case for pistols (0.38 with 4" barrel). these look ideal for secure way of transporting. i would also be interested in a 'laptop case' -- i have a soft one and a couple years back a good jolt to the side of it killed a hard drive i keep my watches in a clear plexiglass case which is wall mounted and rarely would transport them en masse. please advise on models and prices available.
  19. rcr, i'm really impressed, that is a very nice looking strap. i am wondering how well you think it will hold up without the stitching? i think that strap could be an interesting match up with a tuxedo faced pam 29... oh look , i happen to have a tuxedo faced pam 29 (hint, hint). Thanks for sharing the pics, keep us posted!
  20. mjm, is it 24/24? i'm not seeing any in that size available on the site. dadog, yep... she's a pretty crusty looking chunk of gator... looks like something you find on the arm of someone that got lost in the everglades for too long exactly what i was looking for, not some sissy-fied dressup strap. sorry pal, i'm taking this one to the grave.
  21. patrick, don't worry about the temporary darkening from the lexol, i've done it many times and after a couple weeks it goes back to the lighter color. as for the comment about the accuracy of SC's pics... i can only tell you that the strap i received is exactly as it was pictured. given the number of straps they sell and speed of turnaround, i doubt they edit pictures... this last order of straps didn't even make it onto the website as they were all snapped up already.
  22. patrick, please post some pics of your straps. as soon as i get mine mounted (it's going on a minifiddy project watch) i'll be looking for another. but although it was quite a wait to get one, seth was a pleasure to deal with. mjm--this strap is a combination of bone and oval pattern, there are a couple large hard chunks of boney plating that could really do some damage if you started flailing someone with this strap on your wrist... i get a kick out of its almost primitive look. but soft as butter (as you probably know). i did soak it in lexol, but really didn't need to. cannot wait to start wearing it.
  23. mjm, for people looking for a nice civilized gator strap... I'd suggest looking elsewhere (not really)... but if you want a serious, this-gator-probably bit-someone's-leg-off-last-week-and-they-had-to-shoot-it-before-it-killed-somebody kind of gator strap.... here you go: btw, don't want to spoil it for you, but i had to wait 3 mos for this strap and as far as i know the last batch was pretty much sold out before they were even finished making them.
  24. mjm, i also just rec'd a new SC -- legend gator honeyz, it is an amazing strap, when i get a chance i'll take some pics. enjoy.
  25. Peep, that is one incredible looking pam... very nice. and big thanks for the correct measurement, i had measured approx. 37mm. Could you do me a huge favor and post a side profile closeup of your pam with the low-dome plexi. i know sternkreuz also offers a high-dome and in my quest for maximum bulbosity (sp?) i'd like to see how they look. rgds/watchwatcher
