  1. Looks like some good reference - thanks mate! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. So by now, i've got a few dozen watches that i can't seem to bring myself to part with. Some of them had poor lume to begin with, others have faded over time. I'd like to relume some of them, but am not a watch maker in the least. All tutorials i've watched seem to start with the assumption that one has already removed the movement and/or hands - which is something i've never done. I assume I'll need some tools to take out the movement and remove the hands - does anyone know of a full 'nuts to bolts' tutorial for reluming that can start at the very beginning to walk a novice such as myself through it? Danke
  3. I've been wearing this combo for 2 weeks or so now - and the more i wear it, the more i like it. As for the watch, it's great. The two things that could be tweaked is the crown has some edges to it, so that when manually winding it'll bite your fingers a bit, and since i've got an early version, there's a misspelled word on the caseback. As it's titanium, it's insanely light for it's size, and the black coating on the case is holding up like a champ. I've had the watch for about a year or so now, keeps impeccable time. It's my second breitling, and i quite like it.
  4. The canvas strap this beauty originally came with fouled rather quickly and frayed, and i just wasn't happy with it. I originally replaced it with a silicon quick release strap that i'll actually probably go back to from time to time - but i also just bought an inexpensive ($20?) Eache oiled dark leather stitched strap that - at least initially - i rather quite like on this. We'll see how it wears/ages - Pics:
  5. A 30hr bath in 90% isopropanol, followed by heating with a torch didn't seem to loosen the pins up. Those guys are really, really in there. Hmm.
  6. Good idea. I'm going to let it soak in a solvent for a bit first - let the solvent evaporate so i can keep my eyebrows, then give it a bit of heat to see if it gives..
  7. So i'm pursuing a couple of pathways - one of which is i bought a spare link off of ebay to see if i could detach a single 'piece' from the link and plug it into my bracelet. The spare link has 5 'pieces' that have a single removable pin to attach this link to the next one - and the 5 individual pieces are held together by two additional pins that are not removable - in fact, the only way you can see they are there is to twist an end piece hard enough to shear the pins off - which leaves that particular end piece unusable (as now the shorn off pins are still in the drilled holes of the end piece, but you can't get to them) - which is ok because it leaves me with the other end piece intact. I tried drilling out the shorn off pins to reopen the holes, but i'm not getting very far there. Here's the rub - those pins that are in that end piece are REALLY in there. I'm assuming they're glued in, as no matter how much tension i pull them with, i simply can not remove them. IF i can get those pins out w/o shearing them off - i'm pretty sure i can replace that individual piece back onto my bracelet where the piece fell off. Any thoughts on how one might remove those two pins that are very obviously not meant to be removed?
  8. Thanks folks - i've sent TD an email inquiring. If i don't hear anything back, perhaps i'll check the classifieds to see if someone has a bracelet they've swapped for a nato or something that they no longer want...
  9. So about 2 weeks into my beautiful new SMP from TD - i noticed that one of the 'bits' of the iconic bond link had just fallen off - and of course i can't find it to put it back on. Is a replacement 'bit' somehow available? I suppose i could ask TD if he can get the bit - but ordering such a small part from China... i just don't want to bother him with it if there's a more local option available. Thoughts? Thanks!
  10. I don't mind a wait - patience is, after all, a virtue - no? 8-) Good thought on the Chinese address - but i'm afraid it's already gone. The post office had a hard enough time with the Chinese address format in English - they might have just curled up into the fetal position and rocked back and forth had i given it to them in Chinese 8-)
  11. Thanks. TD has asked that i send it back - i'm sure it'll get worked out, that's why they're TD's 8-)
  12. Yeah, that was what i figgured, but never hurts to ask. I'll have an inquiry into TD, but never hurts to DIY if there's a few 'standard' troubleshooting options that should be a go-to first. Thanks mate
  13. First watch buy of the new year was an omega seamaster pro diver 300m - it arrived in great condition, is a strikingly beautiful watch, and 4 days later - simply stopped working. I can hear the rotor turning, and if i wind up the reserve and press the upper chrono pusher, the chrono hand moves ever so slightly, but not continuously, and it won't reset. Second hand doesn't move at all. Prior to it stopping, the chrono was not used. I've only ever had something like this occur once before (out of 12 buys), and that turned out to be a very small piece of glue (or something that looks like glue) stuck between the gears. This is purchased from a very respected TD (name doesn't matter, not naming them as i don't want it to appear that they've done anything wrong, or are to blame in anyway) - so i've no doubt it'll be addressed - but my reason for posting here is to sense check with you lot if there's something i should be trying whilst i wait to hear back from dear TD? I don't have a jewelers kit, nor would i have the expertise to due much surgery even if i did, i'm afraid. Any thoughts?
  14. My 5th watch from Sead is en route, a Tudor black bay heritage. Every time i order a watch, i have trouble sleeping. It's like i'm 8 and it's Christmas eve. Funny how excited one can get about a hunk of metal on your wrist 8-) This fella's gonna get a dark leather nato strap i think.
