  1. Wow, what a week...seems I have been working non-stop....

So anyway, guess who is going to London! Oh yeah!

thanx for all the input guys, I will try to see as many of these things as I can. I will only have two days there, and it seems one of them will have to be in Cambridge..

Looking forward to Bangers and Mash and a Real Guinness!

  2. Often when someone says "I thought your watch might be a rep" that is a tactful way of "I THINK this is a rep" and giving you the option of coming clean. I think you might have missed a hint.

If he handled it, it is doubtful he didn't know it was fake. The sharp edges of a rep bracelet are a dead giveaway to anyone who has a gen.

yeah, he probobly didnt want to be rude and call you out on the spot...

  3. Hey all,

So...my company might need someone to transport a package from San Fran to London (dont know why a courier wont do). Anyway, if they do, I am at the top of the list to go. it would be a "no fanfare" fly there drop off package, turn around and fly back. I might be able to weasle 2 days to tour London.

So, I have never been there before, and I am wondering (If I get to go) what are the top 5-10 must see/do things in London?

    thanx

    ***UPDATE***

    OMG! What a week!

It was one of those “everything that could go wrong, did go wrong” weeks.

So, I was scheduled to go to London on Sunday to hand deliver a $15 million dollar grant application. We planned to print the application in house, and than send it to Kinko’s for binding. We have a really old/crappy/slow color laser printer, so last week we ordered a top of the line 3k +/- HP color laser-jet for next day delivery. The place we bought it from messed up and sent it ground, so it didn’t show up until Friday…and when we got it, it was broke. Called HP support, and they said they would have to send a technician to fix it, but wouldn’t have one available until Monday. Called around to printer repair places, and they told us the printer we got was so new, they didn’t know how to fix it. So now, everyone had been literally working 18 hours a day since Wednesday to get this finished, and we were trying to get it all printed on our crappy old printer.

OK, so I was booked on a United 1pm flight for Sunday. So around 11am we realize we won’t be done so I have to get a later flight. So I cancel the United and book a British Air flight for 4pm. 3pm rolls around and we still are not done, so I have to call and get a later flight, thing is, I had checked in online, and because it was so close to the departure time, the only way for me to change it was to go to the airport in person. So we decide, I go to the airport and handle the flight change, and they will meet me with the application…oh, so somewhere around here our crappy printer crapped out, so what was left was taken to Kinko’s to be printed…So I am off to the airport, waiting in line, and I get a call…all our work was done on Mac, and Kinko’s only had PC, so all the formatting was messed up.

So, bottom line, I am exhausted, and no trip across the pond. :(

  4. Hi everybody....

I'm a new member here and I know Efren.... he is my uncle. I am Crazyhour at the other site. A respected member there PM'd me about this topic here that I was not aware about. Unfortunately, my uncle is not aware of all this and it's all my fault. I was the one who ordered the watch from Andrew using my uncle's Paypal account. He is assigned to a project overseas and don't even join the forum anymore the last couple of years probably. This all my fault and I feel really bad since his confidential info is all over and has tarnished his reputation. I hope there's a way to clean up this mess I created. I apologize to Andrew and to everyone here.

Kudos at coming clean...too few people these days are willing to admit they made a mistake. I hope everything workes out ok in the end...

  5. The guy is a first class jerk no doubt about that and uncalled for....but can I say one thing as the devil's advocate

I will not mention any dealer names of course but the amount of "mistakes" (crooked dials, dirt in the case, wrong watch) is astonishing in my order history.

And the amount of time it takes to respond to an email order is usually about 5 min and a email letting the dealer know of a problem is certainly slower and getting something reshipped and sent back from china is a 3 week process.

All the major dealers here do a GREAT job of providing some really cool products but just checking the watches more carefully before shipping would be amazing.

But this dude is a jerk and andrew did an amazing job of trying to take care of him.

I have bought two watches that had a problem, one from Eddie, and one from Andrew. Your story does aply to Eddie, fast to answer purchase emails, but not so fast to answer problem emails. Andrew on the otherhand was nothing like that...he answerd all my emails promptly, and sorted out the problem promptly also....he is a great dealer!

  6. Man, what a bummer. I have bought about 3 watches from Angus, including my very first rep....In fact, I think I was one of his first customers to buy from Angus. He always treated me awsome! fast replys, fast shipping great support.

I know he had some personlal/family BS going on...than many "where is Angus" posts started to apear...

I sincerly hope everything works out for you PAM1A, And I hope Angus is able to resurface and return to being a stellar dealer...

  7. Rudi,

You will NOT be able to fit an ETA Valjoux 7753 movement into this watch. The hole for the date in the dial will be in the wrong place - I know because I have tried it. The only way to convert this watch to a Swiss movt is to use the ETA/Valjoux 7750. The watchmaker will then have to use some of the asian 7750 gears and pinions to make it work. See The Zigmeister's excellent tutorial here:

    or get a new dial...no?

  8. Hi!

Why do the factories such big mistakes in producing replicas?

    To the story:

I wanted to buy one of ELs really great GMTs, he offers at the moment. (They look in fact really great!)

So I compared his pics of the watch with the gen on the Panerai-Page...and what happened?

Well, I noticed a really big flaw, which makes all reps easy to spot as reps: there is no minute-mark on the Position of "9" - between the subdial and the number "18".

So can you tell me how something like that can happen? Happens this on purpose?

    What do you think?

the seconds at 9 are suposed to be there. you need to do more research. you might be thinking of the 063

The black dial is definitely not a fantasy PAM...

    neither is the blue...

    look here

  9. Certainly is. I offer TiALN coating which is what Panerai use on all the PVD models they make. As far as I know they have never used DLC on a production model except for some of the recent prototypes.

    Hey Finepics,

I sent you a pm a week or so ago, have not recived a reply yet. should I send another? or wait? I know you are busy.

  10. Couple questions questions:

    1) As Finepics asked, Do we know how the bezel markers are attached on this?

    2) Are the bezel markers on the gen as raised as on this rep?

    3) Does Neil have an "offer" for this watch someone can link for me?

    BTW, realy REALY nice watch!

  11. How much is in contention here.........a box full of the latest 7750s?........a clutch of expensive Paneraii.....

    Good Lord no...........

A FRIGGING £5 LINK PIN TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So one and all

Deal with this clown at your peril

    Sam268

    N

    OMG dude! that is sad!

  12. Remember for them to manufacture one they might as well manufacture 1000 because to create one they have to re-tool their factories!

This is big business this is why Andrew has previously stated that the first run of a new rep is never profitable. The factories are attempting to recover their expenses on this run. So if they create the rep and it isn't successful they might not retool again for the same rep but might just move on to something else. Then all those that wanted the rep but passed on it are losers!

I've also heard from another reputable dealer here that if and when the 194 comes out he will not be buying them on the first run because many people scream for the Ti reps but then when they are released they don't buy them!

    Cheers,

    Jon :victory:

I disagree, many times its just small changes that need to be made. but even if it was major changes that were necessary, as stated above i beleive every single person on this board would be willing to pay extra for a better product. so in the end, it would be worth their time and effort.

  13. @Andrew & Joshua,

I understand your point, but I also think our (the buyer) point is valid as well. What we need to do is find a middle ground if possible.

Since you are the ones who have the connections with the manufacturers, a possible win/win idea would be to get the manufactures to give you samples of their product - before mass production - and you can show it to us and we can suggest any necessary changes thereby bypassing flawed versions and going straight to "ultimate" versions. (Do you think this would be possible? maybe you have tried this already)

I think everyone on this board would be willing to pay an extra $20, $50 even $100 extra for a first run watch that was near perfect...

this is an extreem example, but look at the 187, it sold out @ $800+/- with little or no complaints. this newer version, while being hundreds of dollers cheaper, is getting all kinds of complaints.
