  3. I have located a case for a project, unfortunately the case fits the Miyota 82xx movement and I wish to use an ETA 2824-2 movement. After a bit of research, I believe that both the Miyota 82xx movements and the ETA movements have the same same diameter (25.6mm) but the Miyota is 5.67mm height where as the ETA is 4.6mm height. The stem height of the ETA is 1.8mm and the Miyota is 2.5mm I assume that I will require a movement ring / spacer that will riase the stem height of the ETA by the difference between the stem height (0.7mm) so that the stem will go through the tube centrally ?? Is this logic correct ?? Or will I not be able to use an ETA movement in a case to fit a Miyota movement ?! If so does anyone know where I would be able to find a suitable movement ring ?? Are there any 'off the shelf' rings available ?? Cheers
  4. Did consider that but not sure will easily sell the sub ... will see Thanks for your help
  5. Was hoping not to have to would make the whole project more expensive than I would like. It's my first real attempt so will probably end up stuffing it up and being left with more parts Maybe I'll have to rethink the project Thanks
  6. Bugger! Is there a quartz alternative ?? Don't want to spend £50/£60 on an ETA as could maker it too expensive a project I have found this from Cousins (Movement, ISA 1198.32 Date @ 3h, Cousins ref: 119832M) Same diameter as the ETA and same hour & minute hands but the seconds hand is 0.20mm where the ETA is 0.25mm. Could I use an ETA seconds hand and get away with it ??
  7. I have a sub from Perfect Clones with the ew Breed Asian 2813 movement and I want to use the movement as a basis for a bit of modding (new dial, hands etc..) I have some dials & hands suitable for an ETA movement, would these fit the Asian 2813 ?! Are the dial feet and hand sizes the same on the Asian 2813 and the ETA ?? Is there a cheap alternative (possibly quartz) that I could use with ETA dial & hands ??
  8. WOOHOO!! I'm heading out the office soon, hoping to catch this when I get back on-line
  9. Beautiful - congrats on an awesome build
  10. Got to agree with this, I recently ordered a James Bond and Black Phoenix NATO and am impressed with the quality Shame I'm not too keen on the overall look of either on my Sub
  11. Great shout Mike, I think I'll be in this one too.......just means the missus will have to get one less present
  12. As mentioned above, the search function is your friend, there are plenty of reviews from knowledgeable members. I purchased my first sub from a TD after some research here and all I can say is that you will find everything you need, unfortunately its like a disease I have gone from a $250 rep to a gen in the space of 5 mths I would hasten to add that I would probably suggest a M2M sale for under $300, it may not be brand new but you will have the knowledge that a member has previously done all the work and you can get an accurate report on the way it is running etc... Obviously with the above you still need to do your homework and 'buy the seller' but there are plenty of good people here to help
  13. Unfortunately that is not the reasoning behind these wooden builds, areas that are prone or at risk to these types of natural disasters are almost always this type of construction as it is far cheaper to re-build than a typical brick & mortar building. Its economies of scale, its more than probable that any dwelling be it brick & mortar or wood will be decimated so the reasoning is purely financial. Thoughts go out to all those who have who have been affected.
  14. I think he is referring to this..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24986264
