I'm not the only one that broke out the Steelfish recently I see. Took the girlfriend out for a nice dinner and had the strong desire to wear it. The steelfish hits me weird like that. Its now sitting on my kitchen counter just like this, as I swapped it off this morning. ...back to what seems to be occupying ALL of my wrist time since arrival (Besides that mother of a burn scar)

Ebay was Good to me this week - new Tourbillon
P4GTR replied to fotoman's topic in Other Brands Area
Thats awesome Pho, hope it continues to live up to your expectations. Does it? -
very interesting discussion. My father has a seiko from the early 70's he wears a lot. He touts that it still works after all these years. Try as I might to explain he direly needs to get the watch serviced, he says "why, if it still works". I explain the reasoning, but stubborn is stubborn. He calls me on a business trip last week. Complaining that his ETA sub is "falling apart". I ask him what its doing and he tells me when he unscrews it it feels loose, and he will bring the parts home when it falls apart. Went over to his house the other night for a BBQ. Grabbed the watch and saw the movement had loosened up. The dial was moving around when you moved the stem. I popped the case and found only one mvmt holder on the movement. I told him the watch could use a service, rather than just throwing a tab in there. He replied "why, its fake" being as steadfast as always. Even though he seems to love the watch, wearing it mostly everyday, its not real, and is a throw away watch to him. I owed him $200 around the time I got it for him, so it was not a "gift from his son" either. Keep in mind, he's too stubborn to have bought one himself. So this is how I rationalized him trying one. Probably didn't help that two weeks after it arrived, the flip lock on the clasp fell off. (simple fix at a jewler.) Should've got him a noobmariner.

If it came from CN, its CHOMEGA. Pronounced like, CHOLEX.

It doesn't matter who you vote for. The only way the American vote is going to count is if no one votes. We should not allow another one of these people to wipe their ass with our constitution and believe they have the popular vote while doing it. The biggest fear of any leader is being disliked by those over who they rule!

has a macaw in the family just like me. and is probably still trying to figure out how the clamps and screws made their way *Under* the anti-mag cover.

got an AS in Network Engineering my early 20's, spent 5yrs in a handful of IT positions after, now back in school part time (more IT stuff) while working insurance to pay the bills (licensed in 19 states). Still trying to figure out what I wanna do with this soon to be 30 year old life of mine. Sounds like I need to figure out how to manipulate money like the rest of you guys. Maybe I'll design a watch.. Slap a 2824-2 in it, put my fancy Italian last name on the dial and sell em for $5K a pop. Free limited edition pieces to all platinum members of course.
-
I would never buy that watch. I have a begin YM I don't even like. I just wasn't POSITIVE that was a fantasy watch, figured i'd check before I put my foot in my mouth. Rob that sub actually looks pretty good. the new CG shape might bother me though. Looking forward to seeing a new sub in the flesh.

Running into watch people is always fun. I wish I could get close enough to the random Pam, Breit, etc. spottings in the wild to confirm authenticity or even just shoot the [censored] with the owners. Also go's to show even the keenest eye can't tell without grabbing someones wrist and looking for the tell. Good story.

A buddy of mine asked me if this is a gen, as he knows someone that owns one and touts it as such. I must turn to the experts!

Quick thanks to the 140 or so of you that looked and did not post. Feels like no one's listening. When no one's listening, people stop talking. A lot of senior members have this feeling, and I totally understand why. A big thanks to those of you that dropped by and did say hello!

Just two 007 icons.. Would you settle for a tulip? Where have you been? Good to see you still lurking, lurker. The PPK/S only wants to feed hollow pts. FMJ's hang on the ramp, which was polished poorly, too much was polished off. On the PPK, the ramp is on the frame, not the barrel. Full loss. Call it... Prop gun. Learned? UJ my friend, this is much more likely, your speed.

I like new things & new technology, very much. Mechanical watches are such a great blend of both classic and contemporary. The style of my vintage Seamaster doesn't make me drool. Maybe with a polish and the right strap it will.
-
Thanks for a great review. Its a really nice watch. Good bracelet too. Vintage Omega does not seem to hold much interest to many. The prices on ebay speak volumes. I don't believe it will stay this way. Eventually the market will level out and the whole "Red typefont on a stainless submariner isn't worth $45,364,843.. Im done bidding" I think some attention will divert to Omega and the like. I recently inherited a vintage seamaster. Don't have a good strap for it yet, but here it is-

There are many reviews of the Omega Seamaster Pro, I still wanted to share my thoughts and a few pictures. I found myself not quite in the market for a gen yet. So this thing came along in its place. I'm going to test drive it to determine if the gen is what I want. So far, someday, it is. The SMP has not left my wrist but for only half of a day since Its arrival. It wears much like a Submariner size wise. The scalloped edge bezel combined with the alternating brushed and polished curves of the case make the SMP appear more streamlined when compared to a Submariner. It has a less chunky presence, but its size still feels very right, and is extremely comfortable on the wrist. The crownguards are not correct. But they do exist, and are more prominant than some pictures alude to. The new Co-Axial SMP is close to $3,000 US. AD's will take 10-15% off, resulting in a price of approximately $3,700. Where the Submariner has close to a $6,000 price tag. This keeps the SMP in a somewhat reasonable price catagory when compared to Rolex, who appears to be pricing themselves completely out of the middle class market. Even their stainless sport models cause pretty intense sticker shock. Two 007 icons, together on film yet again: The Good: -Dial is pretty well done. -gen ETA 2824-2 -Wears very comfortable -If you can get past the known flaws, it is a great watch in itself, and satisfying. The Bad: -No AR -Crown guards -bracelet screws -sides of bracelet are polished (easy fix) -incorrect He valve -Insert needs to be realigned in the bezel Isolated issues: -Pearl is cockeyed, sitting on the edge of the triangle. Replacement insert is in route (on the house). -stripped screws in the bracelet -missing both movement holders -divers extension will not retract into the band securely. Between the screws and the divers extension, as well as a rough pusher, I felt it was necessary to obtain a replacement bracelet. LordRasta was kind enough to send me a brand new one for free. Thanks again S!

Your photography is always top notch so its hard to say "even better", I guess i'd be better off saying you haven't lost your touch. I'd like to see more diorama type shots from you guys. More interesting backrounds.

BT kills a $7K rep within 5 minutes of it being posted. Priceless.
-
I'm sure the same people that need the AD's acceptance are the same ones that don't freely admit they are wearing a rep when they are asked or complimented on their watch. We all know someone like this. The false sense of stature they create with materialistic BS. Then they go lurking AD's hoping for an ego stroking. Hell, tons of gen owners fit this bill perfectly, specifically the Rolex crowd.

That's my old quartz TAG rep next to my gen. ETA SFSO, beginYM, 177H, LV frankensub given to me by unclejay, my ETA 16610 wearing NATO, brand new ETA SMP next to the gen vintage Seamaster (blue strap is temp, not being worn) The always photogenic SFSO Yum The new SMP. Will have a photo "shoot" with James Walther PPK for you all soon. Saw this shirt the other day, thought it would be perfect for sub on bond NATO. Clothes are just a watch accessory to me. Gotta run, behave.

In light of Skools post, lots of new people... A forum classic. So let it rip!

I think this is the first wristshot with my burn scar..

There's a bunch of obvious flaws on the SMP, but I'm enjoying it regardless. The pearl is off center in the triangle, that bothers me. We'll see what becomes of it, when the replacement insert arrives. You eventually got your insert lined up using the hair dryer method? Maybe I'll eventually send it to chief for AR and have him replace the bezel when he pops the crystal out.
