+1 JKay.
I've glanced over at the $2/$1 blind table in Vegas from time to time and seen guys wearing $5k+ watches, and think "rep". (For some reason, Cartier is popular) It may or may not be the case. But when I see a $10k watch at the $100 table, I don't think twice.
It has been a pleasure, W. And that is a collection second to none. Absolutely top notch. I can't imagine where you'll be after another 10k. ;-)
Long live RWG!!
It's a special piece, my friend. And BTW, for those who don't know, it has the artist's birth date engraved between the lugs masquerading as a serial number.
LHOOQ - good to hear it's not just a problem with the Phong cases too!!
Thanks buddy. And a 7835 will take it to another level for sure. I needed to add another link to the 78350, which would've been kinda hard on a 7835.
Here's the recipe on this one:
Phong midcase
Serviced Valjoux 72 (Zigmeister)
Genuine parts:
- service replacement dial
- service replacement hands
- MK III bezel
- 25-21
- 24-703/24-7030
- 78350/557
- 23-9280
Crazy, eh? The bezel was a hair (and I mean a hair) too small. It had cracked two service replacement crystals during installation previously. So The Zigmeister remove a slight amount of material from the ID to prevent that from happening. Totally unnoticeable. I'm actually not sure if he used a lathe scraper, or just sand paper.
Very good stuff. Watchmeister is the grand daddy of blazing trails for franken builders around here. And as he says it will indeed be interesting to see how your desires change the longer you hang around. I suspect in the not to distant future, we'll be seeing you knee deep in a franken project of one sort or another.
Anyhow, thanks again for the extra pictures. You've got a beautiful watch there.
Thank you very much for taking the time to do the photo shoot and posting the comparison here. Some people appreciate your efforts very much!
I've just sent you a PM to inquire about some more details. Welcome to RWG, and don't be a stranger.
Congrats on the gen Safari!!
Miocrow, you have to be careful. The choice of substrate affects the cyclop design (curvature, thickness). Maybe you already know that. Either way, my first question would be: what problem are you trying to solve? Is the rep cyclop not powerful enough?
Not in general. Most crystals are fine. I think recently a fair number of Luminor crystals have been showing up cloudy. But over the years, with all the crystals I've handled for AR runs, cloudy crystals have been uncommon - an every once in a while occurrence.
That's right. The Zigmeister will engineer it so that everything fits just right. You just leave that to him, and as you can see the end product will speak for itself.
PS - I can't even see the plug of the old crown tube hole! Amazing.
No AR on the cyclops. You see gen cyclops with and without AR. Not a pressing mod IMO.
The crystal on the other hand.... I'm probably going to go custom there. TBD.
