  1. I have just received confirmation that mine will be shipped tomorrow and I was number 5 in the queue. I'm not a Rolex fan but I've always been attracted to Tudor and almost paid approx 4 times this amount for a franken a few weeks ago. Looking forward to seeing what I actually get when it arrives. I also bought a gen, full-size Tudor Prince Oysterdate from him so both should be together.

  2. I have a genuine Fortis Flieger (non-chrono / large version) that has been fitted with a new gold coloured ETA movement by the previous owner, instead of servicing the original. It's complete with the original Fortis tin box and warranty papers. If anyone's interested, it's presently for sale for

  3. Swiss 7750 for $180?

    scam - where's his contact info?

    Contact info at the bottom of each page. I have gone back to the 'site and the ordering instructions are;

    "Order Form, For Watch Parts

    If you would like to place an order for any the the 500,000 possible watch parts we might be able to supply or to manually process an order for some of the 12,000 items we show on-line, please click the link below to access the page containing the order form. You will need to print this page, fill it out completely and send it to Otto Frei via postal mail or Fax. When you are done printing the Order Form, press your browser's back button to return to the Otto Frei website."

    Go to the FAQ and it's Bob Frei's usual friendly self;

    "To Send Email: Always Fill Out Subject Line, with text relating to the subject in the email. Your first and last name, phone number and address. If allowing me to know who you are is all to personal for you please use the phone, or take your problems to someone else. We do not sell names and addresses to mass marketers, however I am tired of dealing with people hiding anonymously by email. Sincerely, Bob Frei

    E-mail: Info@bestsource123.com"

  4. Has anyone had any dealings or experience with bestsource123?

    This seems to be a California based material house with some amazing prices for ETA chrono movements. The website is clearly a 'ripoff' of the Ofrei design. It seems too good to be true and probably is - see the ETA 7750 & 7753 prices. Has anyone any experience here?

  5. I can see that I am in the minority here but I bought myself one fairly recently and I can say that IM the grey dial is FAR superior. It just suits the Ti case so well and it has the added bonus of not being similar to the rep. I have a series 1 rep with a gen black dial (with The Zigmeister at the moment) and as son as it comes back it is going into the trade area. The gen is so good that I don't want to avoid wearing it by having a similar rep to wear instead. Get the grey.

  6. Yes, good point.

    However I'm looking at this as a bit of a savings account.

    Save up half a dozen reps, then sell here to my brothers of the wrist bling for enough to buy authentic.

    I know that 'money in the bank' or 'safe as houses' don't have the same comforting ring that they used to, but I still wouldn't recommend reps as a good investment / savings strategy, unless you have a crystal ball and can buy those that quickly get replaced by lesser watches and become 'grails'. E.g. 'old school' SMP, v1 chrono Avengers etc.

    Better to buy an old-fashioned piggy bank.

  7. This is the same guy who sold a number of 'mint' 44mm Panerai 001B, 002C etc at really strong prices. I thought that it was odd that he should find so many similar mint pieces. Then a little 'birdy' was able to tell me that he was one of Jimmy Fu's customers and I understood it then.

  8. It's always difficult to be totally accurate about these things but I think that you will find some 'double counting' in Jon's stats. According to a very reliable source some 43 of the HBB Lites were withdrawn before being rebuilt and reissued as PVD versions. This should be taken into account when working out the probability of spotting a rep 'in the wild'.

    However, IMO a more significant factor is whether the gen watches are more likely to be worn only on special occasions, thus reducing their likelihood of being spotted, or whether the reps are worn less often on account of the owners fear of being 'called out'. These two influences require much more research.

  9. I suppose that I am a collector although my wife has other descriptions for me. I have about 60 watches, about 50% rep, and I'm determined to get this down below 30. Therefore 35 have been identified for sale, including some modded items that I simply don't wear, (Breitling, IWC, Omega Panerai etc). There is a bunch of gens for the chop in this list too so I must start taking photos and getting them listed on the appropriate forums.

  10. The 6500 caseback from DSN is correct for the preA series. The first 1000 handwind models didn't have the A prefix and were a mix of 001, 002, 004, 009 etc. The 6500 case was not the preV case, which had a 2 screw setup, but had a single screw and the longer lugs, similar to the Jimmy Fu cases. Indeed, the single screw case was a preVendome development, just before the sale of the watch division to Vendome, although very few preV watches had the newer cases.

    There were no preA dials (T-SWISS-T) used in A series watches; all A series were 'T' dials, but the B series used the last of the T dials and a few had the T-SWISS-T dials, before the L dial became the norm.

    So to answer your question, DSN's 0099/1000 caseback is correct for your Jimmy Fu preA and the B series would also be OK (although rarer) for a preA1.

  11. An auto from 1999, which looks like the Moonwatch, must be the reduced auto Speedmaster. The running secs at 3 instead of 9 on the Speedy Pro??

    In principle I would be keen to swap from an Oris to an Omega, but not the reduced Speedmaster. For me, the only Speedy is the original, solid-caseback, handwind Moonwatch. Buy a good used one and be careful not to pay over the odds and you will have a watch that will hold its value from that point onwards, but more importantly you will have a watch that you won't want to sell anyway.

  12. If you have a 036 without the serial numbers on the lugs you may actually have a 036 type dial in a regular 176 / 177 case. Probably well worth a try if you can get a sandwich dial easily. If it doesn't work then you can always sell the dial again.
