  1. Scratch that.. I did remember my old login after all, it was "dabom". Okay - back online! Thanks for the answers!
  2. Can someone who owns the 1:1 Deep Sea please compare the middle link size with other Rolex bracelets (eg. Rolex Sub) to see if the clasp of the Deep Sea can fit? I'm wondering because I'm consider buying a gen Sub but use the Deep Sea clasp because it's heaps better than the crap stock clasp. Can someone please try it out and let me know? Thanks!
  3. I have a gen rolex explorer II, and I'm looking to get a solid (not hollow in middle link) rep bracelet that has excellent fit and finish. Any recommendations from those who have done this before? I've found that either the end link finish was poor or the end-link didn't fit right. :-( looking for advice - thanks!
  4. yeah I agree with that sentiment about the death of a site. It's historically accurate out of hundreds of thousands of sites. Even mighty companies have bent to the demands of a free internet. Hotmail for example provides 10MB attachments and 5GB of space for free - unheard of service even for paying customers 10-12 years ago. It's reasonable to pay for additional services like the ad-free, and better filtering, and access to posting a watch for sale (since money can be made) - but I don't agree the repair forum should be hidden, since that's one of the tenets of the rep hobby. My 2c.
  5. it always irks me when people say I can't do what I just said I can do. My short range vision is good enough to see the crown from one foot away. It's about a third of the length of the 6 o'clock marker - I don't know how anyone can miss it. The point is, it's an added "feature" - which I'm sure costs the factories something to put it on. Save some money and leave it off thank-you very much! As for this whole AD business, it's really none of your business. I've only elaborated because I was asked to. I don't particularly like sitting here having to justify the nuances of my thought processes, because even if I do, some narrow minded person is going to think my "opinion" is "wrong".
  6. I can't find it any more? In fact the whole section where it appeared is gone! Thanks!
  7. Where can I get a nice thick crystal for the SSD, that does NOT have the stupid laser etching on it? Thanks!
  8. I've got a massive watch "scar", so I think it would be pretty obvious that I am a hardcore watch wearer and pretty suspicious that I don't happen to be wearing one. In the N.American stores I've been to, salespeople generally don't care what watch you wear because generally they themselves don't care what watch they wear, and it's "just a job" to them. In Asia, I've never seen a salesperson wear a cheap watch who worked at a high-end store. So they ALWAYS scope what watch you wear, and wearing a nice watch gets you better service. Furthermore, I have a relationship with some salespeople in Asia, and I have bought many gens from them over the years. I don't want to HAVE to wear a gen every time I visit those countries, and yet I want to wear a respectable watch when I chat with them. I really thought the SSD would be the one, and who knows - maybe it will be after I change out the pearl, get the CGs and dial/hand lume modded. But the more I look at that ridiculously large crown etching, the sicker I get. I can see it from a foot away. I don't like to feel paranoid when I walk into a watch store, even though no-one has ever inspected my watches before - but still - that etching is so huge it makes me feel a little paranoid. I would just like to walk in the store and enjoy myself, not be self-conscious about the etching. I think what I will do is "practice" first by going to a local Rolex AD, and feel comfortable wearing it before I bring it overseas and risk tarnishing my image in front of my friends.
  9. Just want to report that it's been a week without any problems so far! I followed your suggestion to set the time forward through 31 days for this watch which I had given to my brother, and that seems to have settled the GMT hand in. When setting the time forward, the GMT hand did lag a few times such that it was a few minute markers behind where it was supposed to be. So far though through normal wearing the GMT hand has not lagged.
  10. .. the friggin laser etched crown on the crystal! I mean why on earth do they put it there? The gen etching can't be seen with the naked eye, and can only be seen at certain angles with a x20 loupe. Unfortunately, this flaw can't be fixed unlike other flaws. Luckily, out of the hundreds of ADs I've ever walked into, I've never had a salesperson examine my watch when I took it off. I guess it's bad etiquette. >:-(
  11. My only transaction with a member didn't go too well. The movement wasn't an ETA 2824, but some 6 beat clone of something. Furthermore the quality of the MBW watch was a little off. It was supposed to be an MBW, but it didn't have the finish of say the SSD. If there are any problems with a member, there is no recourse. I personally wouldn't have any problems dealing with a member, given the right watch came along, but I will be sure I know what is the base watch and I will be sure to ask many more questions.
  12. are you saying that the watchmaterial pearl is the same as the gen SD, but that you have a gen insert on your SSD? Regarding your gen insert on your SSD - is it a perfect fit, or are some mods required? Thanks.
  13. Yes I know I can ask him, it's just that I don't want to bother him too much since he's so busy. So I was wondering if anyone has ever sent a watch over to The Zigmeister for crown guard work. I'm thinking of having my SSD from Trusty done. That SSD is frustrating - it's so bloody close, yet so far! I mean how can the crown guard (and pearl) be wrong when they got everything else right? Bah! The pearl can be fixed thanks to some advice, but the crown guard seems like a very difficult job, and I don't have experience in that area. (anyone can point to a step by step guide?) :-)
