  1. Hello all! I recently started a Tudor 9401/0 submariner build and am in need of some clarifications. But before we get into that, here’s the build so far! It all started when I purchased a Tudor Submariner from Japan auctions, hoping it was at least a franken. Turns out it’s most likely a complete rep but considering what I paid for it, some parts were worth keeping and building upon. Here’s a breakdown of the parts I’ve kept and added so far: • Case: not sure of the source, came with the watch • Dial: Phong • Bezel: Phong • Bezel insert & pip: Crownartcustoms (ig) • Hands: Hour & minute from wholesaleoutlet990 (eBay), gen seconds hand • Crown: came with watch, gen 24-703 crown and tube incoming • Movement: came with an eta 2824-2 but haven’t verified it’s authenticity I’m hoping to eventually add a gen dial and maybe a gen 93150 bracelet. A matching relume is also in order. Now, back to the matter at hand. I recently upgraded to a phong bezel but I’m not sure if the retaining ring is fitting the case well. Is the retainer ring supposed to sit flush and tight against the case or sit slightly elevated? I thought retaining rings sat flush against their case but this being a tension (push down) bezel, is it supposed to have a small gap so as to not rub the bezel against the case when rotating? The phong retaining bezel is either a perfect fit (sits slightly above case) or too small (not flush) and may need some customizing. Hopefully someone here can give some clarification on this. Everything else seems to be a perfect fit so far but if anyone has any suggestions on what should be done/upgraded next, let’s hear it. Thanks!
  2. I've been comparing to some pics of gens and the case looks pretty good (obviously not perfect). I'm still planning to source gen parts and put together a "super franken" so the crown, bezel, etc. will all go but finding a decent case will be tough. I'm between keeping this one and putting mostly gen parts into it, or pulling the trigger on a Phong case. If anyone has a Phong case I'd definitely be interested in seeing if this one looks just as good or if a Phong is that much better.
  3. Thanks all for the responses, even though some are a bit beyond me [emoji28] I recently picked this one up and want to get your opinions on the case. I’m hoping to build with mostly gen parts but one of the parts that will likely be rep is the case. I was leaning towards a phong case, unless this one here looks pretty close. Any opinions on the lug shape/thickness, crown guards, etc? Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Yeah I saw new Swiss eta 2824-2’s going for $200-300, in the breakdown I’m citing a genuine Tudor branded movement, which I’m not entirely sold on since they’ll all serve the same purpose and perform just as well I assume. Maybe I’ll go with the less expensive option at least for now. Genuine dials are ridiculously expensive, I’ve decided I’ll go for the rep dial that has the most accurate lettering. Any idea which dial is closest? Also, if I’m understanding correctly, Phong is selling his case alone for $1,450 but a whole watch for $1,550?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So far I’ve got a decent build budgeted at $3,015 or so. Not cheap! But in regards to the case, is the phong case the best out there?? Looking for a 1:1 gen spec case.
  6. Ah, sounds pricey indeed. The two main things I'd prefer to be gen are the dial and movement, or at least a correct movement, Tudor or not. Any idea where I can start my search for a genuine dial? @hugop Who built the Frosty Flake? Looks great!
  7. I recently got an itch for a Tuber Sub so now I'm looking for someone who can build one with mostly genuine parts (where possible). Any recommendations? Thanks!
  8. I'm wanting to get a Tudor Sub built with mostly genuine parts. Any recommendations on builders who might be interested?
  9. Is this actually a genuine Oyster Prince dial? Mostly all the 9401 and 9401/0 dials I see have the "Prince Oyster" a bit larger to the point that the S lines up directly under the T in Tudor. Was there more than one variation?
