  1. I thought I would show her off a little. Bought her a few years ago. She is my daily. Originally a TCv6 with a few bits and bobs....
  2. I have a 16610 with gen bezel and crown, Yuki bracelet and a Clark crystal. Is is it worth it to upgrade to a gen crystal?? thanks
  3. 'Ello Ladies and Gents Wanted to share with you my latest project, a bit of fun on a late-model ubiquitous black sub. I've owned another late-model sub, a 116610LV and I enjoyed it, so I figured let's have some fun taking one to about 85% genuine, a fun custom build. Here's how the watch came to me from Capre, a great member: Sean M series mid-case (reshaped lughorns for a nice fit with the gen SEL, chamfered and polished by Omega) TC case-back Sean bezel and crystal retainer ring (reworked by Domi for perfect pressure fit with insert/and gen parts) Gen washer and click-spring for the bezel Gen 93250 SEL bracelet (new from AD, with invoice/receipts from the AD) Gen LEC crystal w/o AR (will probably add double-sides A/R) Gen NOS LN bezel insert Gen 703 tube Gen 704 crown Gen hands Gen M series dial Gen date disc Watch was put together, adjusted and pressure-tested by Domi Yuki 3135 (serviced by misiekped and franken'd with following genuine 2 x setting wheels 2 x reversing wheels winding wheel sliding pinion Now this is a pretty sweet watch, as-is! I love it. However since I'm a freak, and want to take it a step further, I'm adding: 3135 140 Auto Bridge Upper (arrived) 3135 130 Winding Bridge (arrived) 3135 135 Auto Lower Bridge 3135 120 Balance Bridge 3135 570 Oscillating Weight 3135 204 Winding Pinion 3135 245 Balance stop-spring (arrived) 3135 110 Train Wheel Bridge 3135 105 Barrel Bridge 3135 432 Complete Balance 3135 315 Barrel, Complete w/ spring (arrived) 3135 600 Date indicator seating plate (arrived) 3135-639 Intermediate Crown Wheel 3135-421 Pallet Fork 3135-201 Winding Stem (arrived) 3135-330 Great Wheel (arrived) 3135 118 Balance Guard and Screws (arrived) Parts are arriving already - once they are all in I will take this to my watch-maker and he'll put the (projected 70% genuine) movement together with the already amazing watch. I wanted to put good $$ into things that really make a Rolex tick, not just fancy bridges... I'm looking (hunting!) for the parachrom bleu hairspring balance wheel, but if not I'll settle for a 16610 regular balance wheel/hairspring. Gathering up the parts at good prices has already been a fun project. Look forward to more pictures, movement out pics, and parts addition to movement pics. Cheers!
  4. So, one of my AD's bought what he thought was a gen 16610. Turns out it was a phong case complete. Anyone have an opinion on what the case is worth. It's complete with case, caseback, bezel, insert, case tube, crown, and crystal.
  5. Hello, I have a co-worker who is showing me (this week) some of his "supposedly" gen rolex watches and wants to sell me one, he claims he is in dire need of cash. So he's telling me he sells me his Rollie Sub aluminium 16610 (used of course) for a cheap price, $1000 USD, which is ridiculous because on chrono24 the cheapest 2nd hand 16610s go for $4000 USD. I don't knw why but he seems like a little deceptive, maybe the watches are stolen or something or are super reps, that doesn't make much senses because for the price he's selling you barely can buy a super rep like a franken TC Sub v6. I know the common tells between a super rep like a TC Sub V6 vs a Gen 16610,but what about a franken super rep, like a TC Sub V6 with franken bezel/insert and crystal/crown. Are there "common" tells to distinguish between a gen 16610? He claims he can't have the watch opened because he doesn't have the time to take it to an AD to have it identified as gen, but the will let me look at it even through a loupe. I know that its supposed to have a gen 3135 movement, so if I play the crown to set the date / time etc I will know if its an ETA or a 3135 (could be a yuki 3135 though!) by watching the hands movements CW/CCW in respect to the crown movements, but the concrete question, Are there any other less known tells, like the hand stack? I have read somewhere about this but can find the information and haven't been able to find anything despite a through and time consuming research on google and all the other forums. I don't want to expend cash on a super rep pretending to be a gen! I'd rather knw its a super rep and decide to buy it -or not- as I already have a TC Sub V6 with a gen insert. Thank you very for reading and I would appreciate your help! Best regards
  6. About this time last year, TC Sub club faced a huge challenge. I was running out of usable TC 16610 and TC 16610LV dials. The dial supplier, due to China's crack down on counterfeits, stopped the rep dial production. The only thing I could do back then was to build each TC 16610 Sub and TC 16610LV Sub from the pile of dials which were taken out from QC issues. I had to first choose a dial with no scratch on the surface and then piece by piece re do the indices to the dial. During that time I wrote a short intro for TC Sub LV Type 3 but skipped the review on the TC Sub V5. I spent most of my time on piecing together the dials. Hence, many new members who did not follow my blog from the beginning were probably confused. If you do not know the story, please read Bumps in the road - 16610 dial maker and the following TC Sub LV Type 3. OK, let begin. A Submariner 16610 watch consists of 7 major parts or part assemblies. They are "watch case set", "bezel insert", "dial", "hands set", "crystal", "bracelet", and a power engine, the "movement"; To make a proper Submariner 16610 rep watch, we have to add on 2 more important parts. They are "date wheel overlay a.k.a DWO" and "movement holder". Watch Case Set TC Sub V6 is based on the tried and true TC Sub Watch Case Set. This is actually the second case set I picked up. It's a keeper because it has all the aesthetically gen features and constructions. That is to say, crown height at gen position, gen construction bezel assembly that houses gen insert without modding or sanding. The mid case could also house any other gen bezel assembly, gen case back, or even gen dial and movement. I wrote a blog entry to review this watch case set shortly after I picked up this hobby. If you're interested, please take a look at TC Sub Housing Gen 3135 & Gen Parts. Bezel Insert Following the Caddell Vintage Insert. It took me over an year to develop this bezel insert. If you're interested, I documented the first received batch of sapphire crystal pearl in TC Gen Spec Bezel Insert & Pearl - Project Update. I then found Rolex's secret in luming the sapphire crystal pearl in TC's Pursuit of the Perfect Sub - Progress Update. Caddell Vintage Insert is not a 1:1 to gen bezel insert. It has a curved or rounded look surface while gen is flat. However, when installed to the TC Sub V6, it provides some what of a vintage effect like those of Vintage Omega Seamaster or Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Therefore, I throw in a Caddell Vintage Insert free of charge for each TC Sub V6 members ordered. Dial If it is not the Kensington High 16610 dial, I would not give this timepiece its designation: TC Submariner Version 6. The dial and indices looked very simple; however, I learned that the KH 16610 dial is in fact extremely complicated and troublesome to manufacture. It really tested the producer's craftsmanship and capabilities. I never knew such complicated production process were originated in the old kingdom then brought to Switzerland by Rolex. Nowadays, this progress of dial making is used only by Rolex. In my opinion, most other Swiss watch power houses cheapped out on the indices if an indices dial is used at all. Ever since the possession of these KH 16610 dial, I became addicted to these dials. I don't think I could ever go back to the old TC 16610 dials anymore. The problem is, supply of KH 16610 dial is limited and slow. The lume job was done magnificently! Hands Set The next thing I would like to talk about is, TC 16610 Hands Set V2. I have been putting the new TC 16610 Hands Set V2 on members' TC Sub V6 for a while. A forum member who's also active on gen watch forums introduced me the V2 hands set maker early this year. He bought a TC Sub V5 with KH 16610 dial and told me everything on the TC Sub is great but something is a bit off. That was the hands. Gen Rolex Submariner's hands set are a tad thicker in comparison to the old TC 16610 hands and provides more of visual 3D effect. V2 hands set is improved upon by this gen feature. The effect of the hands set along with the craftsmanship on the KH 16610's indices reaches true harmony when light shines on the dial creating the ambiance of perfection. That's something only the best craftsman in Europe can produce. That's also something we can only see in genuine Rolex watches. Gentleman, may I present TC 16610 Hands Set V2. Bracelet In my pursuit of the perfect Submariner, a good, tight, and gapless solid end link is as important as a good, clean, shiny dial. The Chinese TC 93250 V3 bracelet maker had done a great job eliminating the ugly gap whenever matching a bracelet to a TC or other rep sub mid case. The Thai TC 93250 V4 bracelet maker pushed that bar higher in making the very best coronet stamp on the clasp. However, members have reported the V4 bracelet art not as good in detail finishings. Besides, the first link of the V4 bracelet does not fold all the way in as gen does. So here it is, the TC 93250 V5 bracelet. I documented the details in TC 93250 V5 Review. Since the time I received KH 16610 dials, I felt the drive to push the bar for quality a step forward. I started to use a caliper to measure mid case lugs distance before matching bracelets. Then I found out TC Sub mid cases lugs distances have variances, and the variances may be dramatically big. So I placed an order of 2 different SEL specs from the bracelet maker this time to solve the problem once for all. The specs are 20.10 (+/- 0.02) mm and 20.15 (+/- 0.02) mm. Here's the detailed explanation: $59 TC 93250 V5. Movement The powertrain inside TC Sub V6 is TC 2824. Right after I picked up this hobby, I knew I had to find an alternative movement source other than ETA. I've tried Sellita and the Chinese but those didn't pan out. I documented the journey in TC 2824 - An ETA 2824 Super Clone Part I. Luckily I met TC 2824 maker at EPHJ, an fair that my line of trade would pay visit every year. I have only two requirements to the movement I should use. One being to perform on par with ETA standard grade ebauche. Two, it has to have H4 cannon pinion. Why it has to have H4 cannon pinion? Because an H2 would make the hands stack sitting too close to the dial when fully assembled. That is UGLY! TC 2824 maker is the only movement maker I reached out who's capable and willing to make me H4 cannon pinion 2824 movement. I dissected a TC 2824 and an ETA 2824, and made a side by side review in TC 2824 - An ETA 2824 Super Clone Part II. Date Wheel Overlay The Date Wheel Overlay is a thin stainless steel overlay with gen or gen like font dates printed on it. It has to be manually attached or glued to the 2824 movement's original date wheel in order to display dates in the right position of a gen Rolex 3135 movement in a rep watch. I hated doing so in the beginning because it is damn difficult to get it right. But there is no other way around if a 2824 movement is to be used in building the rep. I learned to appreciate doing it a little while later because it requires me to fully focus with no fuzz in mind in order to execute the task correctly. I realized in doing so, it really provided me a peace of mind. This is exactly the reason I picked up this hobby after an ugly divorce. I needed peace in mind. DWO in TC Sub V6 is the 4th version I cooked up along the journey. The first and second version were supplied by the TC Sub Watch Case Set maker, in plain English, the original rep 16610 maker. TC DWO V1 and TC DWO V2 does not transcript gen Rolex date font 100%. Thus I took a detour to Japan during a business trip to Asia and made TC DWO V3. Although TC DWO V3 is a direct transcript of gen 3135 date wheel, font and position. It often sits left justified in the dial's date window when fully assembled. To correct this issue, I made another detour to Japan and made TC DWO V4. TC DWO V4 has the correct white base color. The font is genuine Rolex. The date print is raised in high gloss. And the best thing is, it sit spot on the center in the dial's date window. That's about as detailed and thorough review covering all the latest parts or part assemblies of a TC Sub V6 can get for now. Some more V6 shots. Thanks for reading. TC 8/24/14
  7. Was surfing eBay for spare parts and came across this "gen" 16610 bezel insert. The pearl looks off to me, but I admittedly have a tough time telling with this one. Legit or no?
  8. A friend of mine who previously owned a gen 16613 really likes my tc sub v6 but he has not the money to pay 550usd and he's not that aware of flaws as we are on the boards So my question is where I can find the best 16610 from our TD's. Trusty has one which looks fairly nice but as much as I am aware this is not the noobmariner right? Is the noobmariner 16610 still the beste (except TC sub) we can get from our dealers? Moreover I have a spare caddell vintage insert lying around at home and want to know whether this would fit or not? Thanks for any inputs, Cheers
  9. This particular watch is a BK TW with gen crystal, gen bezel insert w/ superlumed pearl, swiss movement, noob hallow mid link bracelet and WM9 clasp. I'm not exactly sure how this particular combo was created but I would assume the gen crystal is to fix the issue with the over sized etching with the rep crystals. The insert of course is to fix the issue of the pearl and perhaps the font of the numbers. The crystal and bezel insert was installed by RSH. The bracelet has ok SEL but I'll go into more detail with that later, as well as the clasp. Here's a few pictures of the complete watch: Glamour shots: Wrist shots: Keep in mind that this review watch has gen parts so the base TW may not look the same but you can get an idea of what it can be like with gen parts and how it plays with the TW case. Case: First off, let's take a look at the case itself. Here it is on its own without bracelet/strap: You can see that the watch isn't the typical factory watch by examining the bezel edge. It is very well defined and has nice polished/brushed finish. You can also see the CG has a more gen like shape and spacing around the crown. Of course it features triple lock like the gen. Another thing you might notice is the rehaut depth and slope. The rehaut is not shallow nor does it have the slope you see on other reps such as the noob. Another thing worth mentioning is the circle where the crystal meets the case. You'll see a dark ring around it, BK mentions that this is only possible with a gen like constructed case. This give it a distinctive look that other reps do not have. Here you can see the well defined edges and stamping of the crown. The crown has excellent definition on the teeth and the stamping of the logo is sharp. It is cleaner than the one on my noob GMT rep that I used to for my review against a gen GMT. The sides of the case is well made and the polish is quite good. The edges of the case is sharp. The noob GMT I reviewed had dull edges and case end while the gen GMT has sharper edges and pointy ends. The TW case does a good job replicating this. The back edge of the case is very sharp and and the ends are pointy. I might say even more pointy than my gen! The ends have the proper diagonal brushing as per gen. The case back has very good finish and the brushing looks spot on with the case back of my gen GMT. One thing I want to point out is that the case back teeth is well defined and sharp, very gen like quality here. However I would like to point out the engravings between the lugs. The engraving is a bit thin and on my particular case the word design is misspelled as "desing". I asked BK about this issue and was told this wasn't the case in earlier productions but the issue is present on all the cases he currently has on hand. Dial/lume/hands: I believe the dial is the standard TW dial with lume done by PBdad (TW sub may come with the WM9 dial). The font and spacing is spot on with the gen. I noticed that in other reps the "L" in ROLEX is not aligned properly under the Rolex crown logo. The dial is finished in high gloss black with clean dial markers. You can see that the markers at 12, 6 and 9 have thicker surroundings vs the rounded markers. This is also a unique feature of the TW sub. http://i.imgur.com/v5aFJ.jpg The lume application done by PBdad is top notch! Even though it was relumed, the marks do not have the dome/bubble effect. The layer of lume is very consistent and smooth throughout. The brightness of the lume is almost as good as my gen GMT IIc. The color is a bit darker. The lume matches the gen pearl's lume color perfectly. The lume also lasts overnight, but not as long as my gen. TW sub against my gen GMT IIc The hands are also superlumed but I'm not sure if it was done by PBdad or the factory. It too has clean application with no lume seen on the edges and glows uniformly with the markers on the dial. Here's a comparison of the date font compared to my gen GMT IIc. Slightly different, but the printing is very clean and well centered. Crystal (GEN): The gen crystal sits on the case with the correct height. You can see more of the ring of darkness between the rehaut and the crystal. Since it's a gen crystal, the etching is only visible through bright light or magnification. Bezel/pearl (GEN): I believe the bezel has a gen like construction as well. The edges of the case has sharp teeth that are well defined. It feels the same as my gen GMT IIc. The insert sits in with a slight recess which is true to the gen. With this recess, it gives an extra sparkle around the insert. The operation of the bezel on this particular watch is a bit tight, not sure if that's how it was when it left from BK's hands. However it does not have any play at all! Each click is distinctive. Here's a shot of the gen pearl. as perfect as one can get If any of you are planning to get the gen insert for the TW/WM9 cases, do it! It's worth the investment not having to worry about the pearl! You can pick up mint/new inserts over at TRF for less than $200-250; LV ones would run you maybe $100 more. Bracelet/clasp (noob/WM9): The previous owner swapped the TW bracelet and clasp with a noob bracelet and WM9 combo. The noob bracelet has the correct hollow mid links as apposed to the solid ones on the TW bracelet. I had rebrushed the entire bracelet for a more true to gen look. The SEL fitment is not too bad but the spacing between the bracelet and the side of the case can be more leveled. I'm not sure how it is with the standard TW bracelet. However i find that it is quite easy to remove and install the bracelet. It may be due to the better positioning of the spring bar holes on the case or its spring bars. I have also repressed the permanent links together with a case press for a tighter fit to give it less sag. The WM9 clasp has very good engraving and the joints are well made with very little play. However, the space between the two parts of the clasp has brushing that goes perpendicular to the rest of the clasp. This can be fixed by polishing and rebrushing the area in the correct direction. Movement: All BK TW subs come with a verified Swiss movement. This particular one has the 2836 movement. The winding mechanism feels smoother than the Asian movements in my previous Rolex reps. Over the course of 3 days it ran -8 seconds behind my computer's time. This is very good considering it has not been serviced or regulated. Conclusion: I enjoy this watch very much for its gen like feel and quality for a fraction of the price of the gen. It is well made and you can feel the high craftsmanship that went into manufacturing the case. After having the bracelet links re-pressed, the presence of the watch on the wrist felt much more solid. One of the issues with Rolex reps that I've own is the bracelet and that is often overlooked. The only cons that I have with this particular watch would be the lug engraving (not a big issue since you can't see it when a bracelet is installed), and the spacing of the noob bracelet with the TW case. All in all, this was a wise investment for such a high end rep. Saves me from buying the gen Hope you guys enjoy this watch review as much as I enjoy the watch it self.
  10. I always recommend members to go get a gen 16610 insert for a reason, it is simply just beautiful! Beautiful how? Our eyes and our brains conceive its beauty but we can not always translate that beauty into plain English. My interpretation of that beauty is a flat and matte insert plus a well polished pearl holder plus a shiny corundum pearl. In my quest for the perfect Submariner 16610, the insert along with its pearl has always been a big challenge. This very specific part is actually an assembly of the aluminum insert, the corundum pearl, and the pearl holder. There is luminescent applied carefully and evenly within the pearl holder so the pearl could "glow in the dark". When I started the insert project in 2012, I thought the pearl holder is made of stainless steel. So I took the liberty being a partner of a local metal part manufacturer and made a batch of the pearl holder. Those stainless steel pearl holders were on every Caddell vintage insert I shipped out along with TC Sub V6 as freebies. This April, a member who bought a TC Sub V6 wrote me saying he has a theory: the gen pearl holder may be made from the same material as the KH 16610 dial indices. So I asked my friend to make me some samples to see if this theory is true. I had to use my microscope since this is late in the night and I couldn't capture anything clearly with my Canon. This is the stainless steel pearl holder on Caddell vintage insert. This is the new pearl holder I just received. How do you like it, gentlemen? TC 10/10/14
  11. Hi guys, I took some pictures of my first Rolex. It's a TC 16610 LV with a genuine pearl. Enjoy!
  12. I am looking into purchasing a TC sub soon. I prefer the cleaner no-date look for subs but I am having a hard time finding a no-date dial. I prefer not to go ceramic if possible. Any ideas folks?
  13. Just received my Black Submariner 16610 rep from Andrew at Trusty Time. Was a little worried about customs as was shipped EMS over the last week or so but no such problems! Very very impressed. It's my first rep so starting at the shallow end. It's just your basic Asian movement $160 rep so not looking for perfection but thoroughly impressed. If I had a couple of small criticisms it would be that the bracelet feels a little sharp at the edges and more 'jiggly' than i'd expect a gen to be. Again, for $160 it still feels quality and looks 100% the real deal. The other point is that there is a teeny tiny mark on the inside of the bezel pearl, so small I couldn't get the camera to show it. You can hardly even see it with the naked eye. Only just slightly if looking at it from a certain angle, and then you'd still have to know it was there. One rep in I'm already wondering what my next one will be, oops! Will get some wrist shots once I've removed a couple of links this evening. Apologies for the photos - only got my iPhone with me at the moment and certainly no David Bailey!
  14. To all the modders around the world: I am working on designing my own watch, which is partially based on a sub mid case. I need to have a prototype put together ASAP, and the factory I'm working with is taking its time. Does any modder have a sub midcase that they can reshape for me, whether it be a 16610, 1680, 5512, or 5513? Even if it is from a canal street grade rep, it may be fine. The crown guards would need reshaping, the midcase would need to be thinned, and the lugs would need some reshaping a bit too. Who can offer some assistance with this? Thanks!
  15. Hey fellas found this very helpful link! http://www.vikbobil.se/bezel.html
  16. Hi mates! Was offered this through a friend: Wondering if it really is gen.... Thanks for your help!!! E
  17. Thought I would post some quick snaps of these two. The Datejust specs: (gen)ETA 2892A2. gen Rolex 16233 DateJust case set E serial (1991) gen Rolex 295c crystal + gasket gen Rolex DateJust silver sticks dial (markers are white gold) gen Rolex tudor hands gen Rolex engine turned bezel gen Rolex SS crown gen Rolex datewheel gen Rolex clasp Nearly everything visible to the naked eye is gen. Even the springbars are gen, though you can't see them. Weight is within 2 grams of a 3135-equipped DJ. The sub took like 6 months to get to my door. It got lost in the mail. Supercool member Coolchu001 waited patiently with me while everything got resolved. He also shot the first two pictures, which made me want the sub in the first place. 18. This is the 4th version of TC 93250 bracelet. It's predecessor was TC 93250 V3. TC 93250 V4 is made by a different bracelet maker. The V3 bracelet maker refuses to make improvements on the V3 clasp coronet or place engravings in the SEL trench. To me, the V3 bracelet served as a good quality stainless steel bracelet. However, the coronet on the V3 clasp is the Achilles' heel because it is not as protruding as V2 clasp, which representing gen oyster clasps from 2002 to 2007, or is not as slim and crisp as gen oyster clasps from 2008 to 2010. Earlier this year I promised Janeto72 to persuade the V3 bracelet maker to make Janeto/TC 93253 bracelet for the two tone Submariner 16613. With the V3 maker reluctant to make further improvements, I had to seek alternative options/makers because making two tone bracelet requires even more accurate tooling and machining. Another reason being the V3 maker was reluctant to make any more counterfeit watch bracelets. I will try to debrief the atmosphere in China some time later. Let's just stick to the topic for now. Sifu L hooked me up with a reputable bracelet maker in Thailand. He vouched for me that I'm not some undercover agent from FHS (Federation de l'industrie horologere Suisse). Then the project 93250 V4 went on. TC 93250 V4 bracelet maker gave me a tour of his factory before I placed the order. I was quite satisfied with what I saw - a clean, organized manufacturing facility with seemingly civilized, Westernized administration, which translates to easier communication. Before my review, I want you to know the batch I received has some variance issues. Here's SSTEEL's review: My Interim Review of Ordering/Purchasing TC's Type II LV Sub. Here's the problem reported from HeuerTag and pbwatch on RG: Pictures: TC 93250 V4 bracelet. After reading the reported problems, I spent the whole weekend unpacking every piece of TC 93250 V4 I received and inspect each one of them. I did find variances and some I would categorize as defective units even by rep standard. To make sure TC 93250 V4 has the best fit with TC Sub case, I have to hand pick and match the bracelet to the case. Therefore I will no longer pass TC 93250 V4 to members as a stand alone part. SSTEEL reported TC 93250 V4 safety clasp edge being a little sharp. It is true. I checked my gen safety clasp and I confirm it is a gen feature. See how gen edge is polished to the point it begins to turn just mirror finish. Same with TC 93250 V4 safety clasp. If you are already accustomed to the modern super cased Submariner 116610 all rounded edges, just a tad sharp at the safety clasp is how classic Submariner 16610 really feels like. If you don't like it, the edge can be dull out by a nail file. Take away the variance issues, TC 93250 V4 bracelet is probably by far the best stainless steel Submariner bracelet I ever found. The V4 SEL has the same good fit to TC Sub watch case as V3 did. TC LV Sub to the left, Gen 16610 Sub to the right. The bracelet edges are gen finish. TC 93250 V4 clasp coronet against gen. Gen to the left, TC 93250 V4 at the center left, TC 93250 V3 center right, TC 93250 V2 to the right. While my pursuit is after the perfect sub, we have to remember that we are also paying 1/15th of the price compare to a gen. With this said, I will have to strive a balance and pick and choose which I will have to sacrifice with my limited resource. This is my logic of evaluation. Since my goal is the aesthetics of looking and feeling like a gen, the improved coronet is a big step forward in the right direction. The SEL trench etching is an added bonus but when push comes to the shelf, the etching I can do without since no one will see. Over all, the improved coronet on the V4 clasp along with the etched 93250 are the winning points for me. In the end of the day, TC 93250 V4 represents the original 93250 finish better than any of its predecessors. TC 8/14/13
  19. As some of you may know I have always been a fan of lugholes and have had an ongoing Submariner project for awhile now. It's based on an ST case and after several movement incarnations and some drastic case reworking I wound up here: Bezel, insert and crown are genuine, dial and hands are TC and it's powered by a high-grade 2824 movement I found on ebay. I love this watch imensly but it's just not there yet... And so, having to order some parts for some watch repairs I'm long overdue on, I found myself ordering the ST 3035 (16800) case earlier this evening. I'm not sure yet what the endgame will be but it be nice to have the two cases side-by-side for a comparison. I already have a super-franken 16610 anyway, I think it's time to get a little vintage! I'll update this thread as parts start to arrive and the build goes together. Thanks for looking! ~Brendan
  20. Dear watch addicted, I hope you can help me. I have a Franken TC Submariner 16610 with an Gen ETA 2824. I would like to buy a Gen dial and Gen hands. For what do I have to look? Any advices? Thanks a lot!!
  21. Just curious. I see 16610's everywhere these days. Actually, I see MORE 16610's in my city, and in airports, than I do Seiko's. Also, from a REP perspective, REPS have become so good that at arm's length I am having trouble discerning a quality rep from a gen. Have we finally reached the point "Who has the best Sub (16610)" is old hat? Passe', Boring? "Ohh look, another business traveler wearing a 16610..." Personally, I see a 16610 in the wild these days and think _____________________________... Thoughts? Fill in the blank.
  22. Hi All, I wanted to send out a quick thank you to Fidhle007. I think the pictures speak for themselves but I wanted to publically say thanks and give a huge endorsing recommendation. He was accommodating, extremely fast, trustworthy and a pleasure to work with. Anyone out there who knows enough to be dangerous but is a bit nervous about jumping head first into a watch build I highly recommend you get in touch with Brendan (Fidhle007). 23. I ordered the 16610LV from TC 2+ weeks ago and it finally arrived yesterday. It was packaged very nicely. It came bubble wrapped and sealed in a silver poly bag inside a small brown box. Just for fun, I re-unboxed it in a Rolex watch shipping box. I have many of these available, if you are interested in purchasing a Rolex plastic shipping box, shoot me a PM. Anyhow, on to the watch reivew... *Sorry in advance for any moisture, dust, or lint on the watches Dial/hands: The dial printing is excellent as usual with TC subs. The font and color looks great. The marker surroundings are quite good for the round makers, but there seems to be a bit too much lume for the 12'o clock marker. I have an extra TC LV dial and its also the case with that dial. The maxi dials have the same width for each of the surroundings whereas the 12, 6 and 9 markers are a bit thicker on the 16610LN models. The hands are quite good, in these macro shots, you see a bit of extra lume around the edges of the hands. This is pretty invisible to the naked eye. The dial and hands are superlumed. Sorry I didn't get a pic, but I can assure you it glows like gen! CG/crown: This has been covered in other reviews. Gen like CG shape. Excellent cut and finish. The crown is very gen like as well. I had a few gen crowns but I didn't even bother switching it. I think it's that good! Date/crystal: RSH pointed out that the DWO (v1 and v2) are a bit left justified. I can confirm that this is the case with both of the TC watches. The LV came with v2 DWO, the background color is more white, but the left justification is present. Its more apparent for numbers in the 20s. vs I also noticed at the TC crystal seem to magnify the date a bit too much. The TC 16610LN has a Clark crystal installed and the magnification is similar to what I see on my gen GMT IIc. There is no LEC at 6'o clock. The crystal does have a softer edge than Clark's (TC crystal is more gen like). Pearl/insert: (gen insert on the LN version) The pearl is excellent on this insert. It's superlumed and seems to have some sort of covering. The pearl surrounding isn't as neat as the gen pearl but its quite good. The insert itself has very accurate shade of green compared to the gen. I did notice that the triangle above the pearl is a bit thin. It has a small crease present. This crease is also on other member's TC LV subs that I've seen. The edges of the insert is pretty clean, but the outer edge is not painted or smooth like the gen (only seen when removed). (moisture around 35-40 markings) Bracelet: The watch came with the V3 bracelet already installed with 1.8mm spring bars. TC also included 2 2.0mm bars. I decided to try swapping the spring bars and it worked flawlessly with the 2.0mm bars. The fitment with the 1.8mm bars had very slight play, its very tight with the 2.0mm bars. The SEL fitment is excellent. It's even all around. My only complaint about the V3 bracelet is the clasp shape and operation. I bought 4 v3 bracelets from TC and each of the clasp caps open and close differently from one another. Either its too tight or too loose, but its easily fixed. I do however think the clasp from the V2 has a more accurate shape. As seen in this photo, the clasp's corners are not "square" enough. It has a tapered look to it. I tried finding pictures of a gen clasp with this shape but almost all of them have sharper corners. The V2 clasp did not have this flaw (although the coronet and swissmade was incorrect). The backside looks pretty good as well. The next version should thin out the backside of the SEL piece so that its flush with the casing. Here are some more pictures my TC 16610LN (gen insert, clark crystal, still has the v1 dwo, v3 bracelet & clasp) and the newly acquired LV
  24. After almost a year and change of wait, I was able to get my hands on a correct serial number Noobmariner (Thanks a million VARock) F520117 serial number case. I always wanted one of these from reading old reviews and wanted to see one for myself. Maybe play with moding a little and wear it as a daily. Now, The rehaut is indeed very good on this one. Crystal not too bad and the SELs actually fit pretty decent. The dial is not too bad, and the date mag can be better, but I cannot complaint. I need to get a bezel insert for it and perhaps put a lower profile crown on it. The crown guards are very good IMO. Overall I think the watch is good as is. I cleaned up a bit and will smooth out the edges a bit. From reading posts on several boards, I gather that the Clark's crystal won't fit, but how about the TC one? Which insert is the go to insert for these cases? I may age it just enough to dull the black a bit and will eventually go the drilled through lug holes just for the better spring bars. I water tested the case (just got it today BTW) and it's good to 3ATM thus far. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
