  1. It took me a while to complete it, but it is now done !!!! My pointed crown guard Sub with 3,6,9 gilt dial !!!! Specs : Bezel & Insert sourced in Thailand Cartel Polex mid case slimmed from the top to lower the bezel sitting and have the crown appear higher. Welded on the crown side to create enough metal to carve an accurate crown guard. Then, totally reshaped all around. DW caseback Cartel bracelet links and end links Gen deployment Cartel PT 702 crown modified to 700 Clarks crystal Dial & Hands from Yuki Now to the pics :
  2. Hi friends, For the moment I have a bad caseback for my 1680, the look is not gen and I'm looking for another... What do you think for the caseback proposed by Yuki?, I am not idea for this item...Someone has purchased a Yuki caseback's ? or a more specific example photo? Tks very much guys for your answers and have a nice day, jim
  3. To all the modders around the world: I am working on designing my own watch, which is partially based on a sub mid case. I need to have a prototype put together ASAP, and the factory I'm working with is taking its time. Does any modder have a sub midcase that they can reshape for me, whether it be a 16610, 1680, 5512, or 5513? Even if it is from a canal street grade rep, it may be fine. The crown guards would need reshaping, the midcase would need to be thinned, and the lugs would need some reshaping a bit too. Who can offer some assistance with this? Thanks!
  4. I have an interesting project in the works right now, and I was wondering if anyone has the dimensions of a Rolex 5512/13 w/ pointed crown guards... or a gen/phong case to measure? I need every dimension of the mid-case and crown. Also, the dimensions of a Helenarou 6538 bezel [notches] would be very useful. Thanks everyone!
  5. I just built this franken 5513. My plan is to use all gen parts eventually. I'm liking the gilt though, so it may be a while before I get bored with it The build list is: Gen 5513 midcase Gen 24-700 crown and 24-7000 tube Ingod gilt dial Yuki case back ST vintage bezel assembly, pearl removed from insert ST t-19 crystal DG 4813 movement Rafflestime #2 movement ring, modded 21j hands, "gilded" Gnomon NATO I settled on an Ingod gilt dial for the franken stage. It's not as correct as some put there, but the Ingod is relatively inexpensive, and more than adequate as a temporary solution. I had an old cartel 1675 case back that fit the gen midcase well, by there was no room for a gasket. Luckily, I found this Yuki from dbane... I used a DG4813 movement. It fits perfectly--the stem hole lines up smack in the center of the case tube, but I had to sand down a Rafflestime #2 ring pretty far to get it to center the movement properly in the case: I rubbed some 21j hands down with 1500 grit paper to produce a gilt effect, then baked them enough to get a decent color match to the dial markers. I popped the ugly base pearl out of the insert and tried to fit an acrylic I have, but the acrylic was too big. So that still needs to be done. But here is the semi-finished product: I still need to find a bezel assembly, a case back, hands, and a movement. But, these will help when I decide to go full-gen:
  6. I'm trying to figure out [gen] case thickness of the Rolex 5512/13/14 for a project. I'm not sure how thickness is usually measured, but if someone knows the thickness of the caseback+case+bezel, that would be great.
  7. Hi all, Looking to buy a 5513 from one of our TD's. From whom should I buy and which version would be the best way to go? Josh, Trevor, Angus ? Thanks for helping me out! If anyone wants to part with their 5513, please keep me in mind as well. Thanks!
  8. The 5513 was produced for around thirty years. Over that time, it saw many dial variations. I would appreciate your help deciding which one to match to this case. It's a gen midcase with serial number removed. Based on its thin profile and original tube, a 24-7000, I would date it to the mid-to-late 60's. Do you agree? A 700 crown screws down perfectly. What dial(s) are correct for it? Thanks!
  9. Hey everyone, thought I'd start a new thread as the previous two were getting a bit cluttered. Dials arrived today! I would have taken more pictures, but I only have a crappy iphone camera to work with atm. First thoughts: I'm amazed at the level of consistency in regards QC. No dials have any discernible print problems - everything looks crisp as it should. I will be setting up a post in the "parts" section, as I have more dials from this batch available. While I'm extremely happy with the outcome of this batch, I will not be doing another run (so please don't ask me). I want to thank all of the preorderer's on rwg that made this possible. If it wasn't for you, this wouldn't have ever picked up steam! Also, big shout out to aero dave for spearheading the preordering
  10. I have always planned to have a vintage rolex done by donerix. But he was busy with his work so it got postponed a couple of times. Late last year, he informed me that he's not taking order on watch build anymore because he just doesn't have time for it anymore. So my quest for a donerix vintage rolex began. I missed a couple of his watches being sold in M2M sales section. One day (it was valentine's day), while having dinner with my wife, I casually emailed him whether he has any 5513 for sale. And he offered me his own 5513 for sale. I gladly accepted his offer. To be honest, from all my reps, his 5513 is the one got noticed by people a lot. I have a few friends that asked me what watch i am wearing. And countless glance by strangers when I wear it. Without further ado here it is: Spec: MBW (gen bezel construction) with Swiss ETA movement InGod guilt dial with chapter ring genuine crown genuine pearl genuine crystal genuine spring bars Aged case, dial and hands reamed lug holes oiled and aged yuki stretch bracelet faded insert. Pictures: (again, I need to learn to take better picture) One thing that bugs me about this watch is: I only find one picture on the internet of 5513 that has this dial. Supposedly, this is a very rare 5513. From what I have gathered, this should be a 1961-1962 5513. Given the year, the CG should be a PCG/Cornino. Another thing is the hand, some parts of the hand turns to the normal steel color. I am thinking of having it modded to be a PCG. Please let me know what you think. Thanks
  11. Today I'd like to introduce my 5513 which I bought from dutchguy2 who build this watch very well. I really love to wear that watch...it looks sooooo gorgeous Specs:
  12. Hi All Below are some pics of my MBW 5513 submariner project - its getting there, but I'm not sure about the dial... The recipe is as follows: - MBW base watch - Clarks tudor sub hands - Clarks t19 crystal - Clarks bezel assembly - Yuki spring bars - WSO bezel insert (sanded and flushed following these pictures - I'll probably add a Yuki pearl at some point in the future) With some mods by the wonderful RA: - Reshaped crown guards - Drilled lug holes - Full waterproofing My question is, was a 5513 ever made with this particular dial combination? I have not seen a metres first dial with the submariner text on top (except maybe on a gilt dial) - is this MBW dial a fantasy?
  13. Hi guys! Quick question for the resident vintage experts: Can a old school MBW 1680 be turned into a 5513? Can the plexis and dials be changed over without major problems ! Has anyone ever done this? Thanks for your help!! Cheers Robert

    5513

I have a 5513 Sub that, for some reason, stops and starts rather erratically. I know this question probably would have been better in a different section, but I figured I'd ask it here because this seems to be the section with the most "franken" builders. This 5513 seems to be fully wound, and will run for like 5 seconds and then stop. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with it, or who could fix it for me? Thanks in advance!
  15. First I would like to thank the members who sent me so many nice PM's about my 5500 post in this forum. I had PMs asking me details about the 5513 pictured in that post, so I figured I should make a new post to share some pictures of that watch. I think the Submariner is a fascinating watch design wise: it had nothing to be a collectible, and yet it became one of those watches most afficionados have to own. Why? It isn't rare, it came out as a rather cheap tool watch, it has a very commun movement that can be found in the less desirable models Rolex has made.... But it's been fourty years we all love it !!! That crave most of us have for this particular model makes it an icon. I hope my pictures will please you as much as the pictures of the Explorer I. Cheers !!!
  16. I think I've finally got together the money for a decent MBW case, gilt dial 5512/13. Unfortunately, the only one I've ever seen for sale was sold before I could afford it. I suppose the best way now, is to get a modded MBW 5512/13 and have the dial installed myself. First of all, if anyone has a gilt 5512 or 5513, let's see some pics! I don't see enough of them around, and I need some incentive to do this. Also, I was wondering if the Ingod dials fit in any MBW cases properly, or if I'd need to have the case bored out somehow. I've heard of people filing down dials too? Is that do-able? Of course the feet would need to be clipped to glue the dial onto a 2836 movement, but that's not a big deal. So is the dial installation generally easy? Or will it be expensive or difficult for me to get done?
  17. I took inventory today of my watch collection. During the process, I shot quite a few pics. Here are a couple of my dear sweet darlings (old veteran members will recall these two I am sure). Some details... Circa '65-'66 1675 with original small GMT hand (from the factory). Yes, it came this way from the factory. This prompted an interesting debate 15 or so years ago when folks started coming out of the woodwork with stories of Rolex finding caches of old parts in the mid-60s (and subsequently using them up despite being slightly outdated. Very 1960s Breitling-esque, I might add). Still have the original folded Jubilee bracelet as well. Mov't has been keeping chronometer time specs since it was born. Crazy accurate. Circa '67-'68 5513 with original Twinlock crown system intact and original T-19 Superdome. I have a NOS Twinlock tube, gasket & crown waiting around for servicing in a few years. I also have a Triplock system for it. I might just install the Triplock to avoid humidity issues in the future. 1520 mov't is also superbly accurate. I've got the original faded bezel insert stashed away that I, from time to time, slap on the watch. I also wear it on its original Oyster bracelet, too. I almost sold this watch a few months ago. Somehow I managed to regain my senses right before closing the deal. What the heck was I thinking!! What is fascinating about these movements is that they autowind to max. capacity extremely rapidly--more than any other auto-mech watch I've owned to date. I know that there are some vintage lovers around these parts!
  18. Hi guys Just finished stage 2 of my 5513 modding project and wanted to share some pics of it so far. You might recall, i received this 5513 from Josh a few weeks ago. It's the much loved $118 watch that is such good value for money!! Here it is fresh out the box... Anyway, after changing the crystal to a domed tropic, and also aging the bezel insert, it now looked like this - which was Stage 1 complete! So, although i was really happy with these mods, i still had a number of things that needed doing to this one to make it as good as it could possibly be (within a very limited budget i might add!) The more i looked at the stubby CG's and the large crown, the more i realised it wasn' like the gen at all. Being on a limited budget, i didn't really want to have the added expense of purchasing a Gen crown/tube as i would also need to buy the tube instalation tool as well. So i decided to have a go at reducing the existing crown in size and also re-shaping and softening the case and re-shaping the CG's. I also ended up changing the crystal to a flatter Tropic as well - don't know why, i just prefer this one! Anyway, here is the watch before any case or crown work. And a similar shot after the crown reduction and re-shape..... While i had the tools out, i also re-drilled the lug holes to accept Gen bars..... Again, this is the first real mod work i have attemped on a Rep, and while it's not perfect, i think it was a few hours well spent in terms of what it adds to the watch. I suppose this all pretty subjective - one man's poison and all that - but IMO it is well worth the time and effort. Here is a comparison shot of the modded 5513 case on the right and a standard Josh Unmodded case of the left..... When put side by side like this, it becomes more obvious! Some more comparisons of the case softening and re-shape. So that is it done for the meantime............i think what will be the final stage 3 is to re-lume the dial and also the pearl, and then it'll be complete! In the meantime, going to wear and enjoy this one for a while i think! Thanks for looking guys!
  19. Hi Guys Just wanted to share my latest piece that arrived in the post just the other day! It's a Rolex 5513 from Josh (Perfect Clones). This is the $118 Asian 21J version. Seems like a very popular watch around here, and to be honest, i can clearly see why. When it arrived, it looked a little too "Perfect" for my liking. I had thought this would be my first Rolex Mod project, so i was planning some light mods to start off with. This is it, pretty much straight out of the box and into the garden for some pics! In amongst my list of mods i wanted to carry out on this one were: 1) Crystal change. 2) Insert aging 3) New crown and tube 4) Case & CG Re-shaping 5) Re-drill spring bar holes 6) Bracelet oiling I have a new crown tube on order and i am trying to track down a nice Gen crown. This is the stock "superdome" crystal that comes with it...... While some may like this look, i thought it was really spoiling the overall look of the watch, so i decided to change that first. I just think the crystal is way too domed! In went a new domed Acrylic (though not quite as domed as the superdome!!). I put in a crystal that already had some "WABI" so i could try for the vintage "lived in" look! Then i faded the insert in some neat bleach and reassembled the watch. The stock bracelet, while good enough, was a little stiff and squeeky. Just didn't feel right, if you know what i mean. So after aquiring some good quality sewing machine oil (thanks to By-Tor for the tip) i gave it a good soak overnight and it came out like a different bracelet! Feels completely different - better quality, more luxurious on the wrist. No more squeeks or stiffness in the links! I am still awaiting some different sandpaper grades, so unfortunately, the case and CG re-shape with have to wait for now. This is how it looks now..... So there we have it! First mods of any kind i have done on a rep. I think i may have overdone the amount of time the insert was in the bleach, but the more i look at it, the more i like it!! Now just waiting for my parts to arrived so i can have a go at the CG's and case and looking out for a nice 703 Gen crown! Thanks for looking!
  20. I wonder if some one has the dimmensions for this two cases in order to see the differences. Dial size? Retaining ring? I wonder if a 5513 case could take sapphire crystal? Also how good its the Yuki 5513 case? I know there is no a good 14060 case so I am just trying to see if I could get a good 5513. Thanks
  21. I'm looking for good gilt dial sub, and it looks like Puretime sells them these days... but only with 21j movements. Is anyone selling them with a 2846?
