  1. Joining a good part of nostalgia with reliability, simplicity, good power reserve, excellent readability and light on the wrist/ease of use this 5513 has advanced to be one of my favourite/ most worn watches in 2016. At the bedside by night, on the wrist by day the philosophy behind it is quite simple. In the last 60+ years it has been all over the World. It has been serviced and fixed by some excellent and by other mediocre watchsmiths in the most remote corners in the World - with those parts that were available and not those that are period correct, a crown here, a plexi there, some hands that were available. Relumed, repolished and just "fixed" this has never seen a ROSC from the inside and it never will.
  2. Couple weeks ago I got myself a nice Rolex 5500 Explorer from a seller on Chrono24. For the price I paid ($2000 without the bracelet), I was expecting it to be a redial and not a rare 5500 Explorer. Anyways, after receiving the watch I took it straight to the Rolex Service Centre for a checkup. Turns out that Rolex thinks the 5500s never came with the Explorer dial so it should be reverted to the Air King precision dial and hands. Weird! This is not true, the 5500s did come with Explorer dials (from 1958 to 1967 according to Bob'sWatches) so I don't understand why people at Rolex shouldn't know about this. Other than that, Rolex said the watch is genuine, needs polishing and lubrication so I take it's in pretty good shape. I asked them about the dial and hands and they said "they appear to be gen" but it's impossible to know for sure. WTH? The serial number of the watch is from 1959. Here are the pictures: And this is the watch featured at Bob's Watches - the logo, letter spacing, crown, marks, all looks exactly the same, so I am thinking my dial is gen and possibly the hands too. It's a big decision for me because the dial and hands are aftermarket I am considering returning the watch to the seller. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  3. Alright, after browsing the world - oh so wild - web for a few days, i came across the absolutely most gorgeous looking 5512 dial ive ever seen, the 5512 (?) Chapter ring. Appears to me this model was a early one, coming with only (?) PCG's. In an attempt to make my own, for a reasonable price, i now consider fetching a yuki pcg case, or a regular one and then mod the crownguards. Im looking for more info regarding this dial variation? Any sources for rep dials? I know yuki sells a 5510 Chapter, but it misses the dept row in the dial?. Currently im sitting with a captial, a critical need to create this piece and the following: Gen Insert Gen T19 Gen Crown/Tube 2836-2 (not going for a gen one here) Basically im after a dial, handset and a case. Any ideas, tips? Borrowed picture:
