  1. Hey RWGeeks! So a few years ago now, my father and i got burned on some japanese auction sites and we received what we thought was a 7928 Tudor Sub. Instead it was a franken watch with a 9411/0 case set and real 2824 movement (longines or something not tudor, doesn't have the KIF shock protection). The current spec is: Gen 2784, gen dial, gen crown, clark crystal, yuki hands (tiger concept hands on the way), clark tube, unknown bezel assembly + retaining ring. So I've been going under the assumption that the case is a replica case, i mean why would you put a real 9411 case with franken parts + rep dial (i have been wrong before)? The case has: - Proper engravings: 78xxxx serial number (roughly 1972), the 9411/0 engraving too - 2mm lug holes - Decent shape - maybe you can help me out with this one. - Caseback looks decent but has C.R.S instead of 9411 on the inside. - Unknown bezel assembly too - Fits 26mm dial Please let me know if you have any ideas on the case. Does the rehaut look too 'wokky'/angled? Thanks in advance guys!!!
  2. Hello friends of fine watchmaking, My Tudor 7016 is now ready and I want to introduce here. I hope you enjoy it! I have used the following parts: Cartel Case (completely revised). Case-Back Engraving by JMB. Athaya 700 Crown and Tube. ETA 2451 (the base calibre for the Tudor 2483) with a GEN Tudor assembly and rotor. Phong dial and hands (relumet). Phong vintage Insert. WSO Tropic 19 Plexi. And now the pictures:
  3. This is a Snowflake budget build that I completed about two weeks ago. It was meant to be a project that could be completed for under $250. Sooo, that meant I was unable to do some of the more detailed things like the engraved caseback, gen spec 580 end links, send out to get case reshaped etc. But I think it looks great for the investment and it accomplishes exactly what I was looking for. The parts are: Case: cartel 5512 Hands: raffles Dial: raffles I haven't aged this one apart from a little bit of hour marker aging which can't really be seen in the pics. I plan on doing the insert sometime soon. But for now, I;m enjoying the new old stock look. Next build will be a Tudor 7922 big crown! I'm excited about that one as well!
  4. Just got wind of this last night so I'm really late to the party but wondered if anyone had seen this and what your thoughts are on it, looks bloody awesome to me and having a couple of Steinhart in the box already I know the brand is great quality for the price too The run is sold out as of now but I've managed to get my name down in case anyone 'flakes' on the deal What do you think............ http://forums.watchuseek.com/f275/steinhart-aramar-arctic-ocean-802735.html http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=242&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.watchuseek.com%2Ff275%2Fsteinhart-aramar-arctic-ocean-802735.html&v=1&libid=1363782441189&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aramar.nl%2Findex.php%3Fitem%3D%26action%3Darticle%26group_id%3D35%26aid%3D515%26lang%3DEN&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.watchuseek.com%2Ff275%2Fsteinhart-aramar-arctic-ocean-802735-7.html&title=Steinhart%20by%20Aramar%20Arctic%20Ocean&txt=Steinhart%20by%20Aramar%20Arctic%20Ocean&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13637829651063
  5. Hi RWG, Here's my first project-a homage of the Tudor Submariner 9411 Snowflake. A little background; like most WIS, I love vintage submariners and I wanted a homage to satisfy my craving for one. When I decided I wanted to build my own homage, I was torn between a 1680 and a 9411 homage. In the end I decided to go with the Snowflake because most folk in my area don't know the Tudor brand or their awesome watches! The movement is a Sandoz ETA2824-2 which does not hack, but I will be looking into the possibility of getting it to hack. I read online that the usual case is a missing stop lever so I might be able to get a replacement lever online. The case was once a Rolex 16610 replica (I think) but does not feature gen-like construction. It also lacks lug holes-my favourite design trait in a vintage sub! The dial is from Tiger Concept and the hands from another vendor online. All the parts- Movement (the original datewheel had to be replaced with another one so the font is different) Dial and hands. The dial is the usual 29mm size so the hour indices appear smaller than on the original- Here it is before the bracelet arrived. It's on a padded black leather strap with burgundy stitching- The blue bezel was nice, but I wanted a black one so it was replaced. Unfortunately I decided to practice bleaching on it so now it's a faded, teal coloured bezel Here it is after the bracelet and bezel insert was installed. The bezel insert was the usual gloss black and since I wasn't happy with my bleaching attempts, I decided to give it a coat of acrylic matte black. It wore off now so I'm going to have to tackle that bleaching job eventually! I also removed the clicking mechanism and made the bezel bi-directional so it matches the vintage theme. The pearl does not match, but I had a hard time removing it and I thought I'd leave it on till it falls off on its own The bracelet is a sterile 93150 type but with a 78360 type sterile clasp. No drilled lugs... Matte black bezel insert- Lume shot- I'm very happy with how it turned out but I'd like to try out new mods on this to make it better. For starters, I'd like to add texture to the dial and relume it with a puffy lume, then work on thinning down the crown guards and softening the case. So there you have it, my first project. I'm always on the lookout for a beautiful 1680 or 5513 case with drilled through lugs so I can make a true-to-original homage of the 9411. My next project is going to be a vintage Datejust build for my father. The base watch is on its way to me so I'll open a thread for that when I receive it. Thanks for viewing my thread! Jay.
  6. It's been really lacking some Tudor action here for the last few weeks so I thought I'd share mine if you share yours too Currently in the box Sub to start Heritage Black Flake Blue Flake (snow for Nanuq) Now it's your turn
  7. Well I did it again, made another impulse purchase, just couldn't pass up on this beauty. I made an offer, and figured if its meant to be then its meant to be.. I didn't want to offer full price. Just got the ok, he accepted! It's an early 7016/0 flake with what I think is amazing patina. I'll be getting it next week. From a very friendly member on net54. Its my first gen purchase in years. I haven't seen any value in buying new rolexes anymore the way I used to, I'm really addicted to vintage Rolex now but was planning to go the Franken route with all of the ones I will want, but for the price the gen in this case makes sense for me.
  8. Since my 16610 and 16800 projects are on hold until I replenish the "fun fund", I figure I would show the Tudor project I just picked up from the Watch Smith! After spending a good while trying to decide between building a 6239 Daytona or a 9411 Snowflake. For better or worse, I went with the snowflake. What I wanted was this: So after spending considerable time on ebay and such buying parts I found on Ebay a case/crystal (it has its issues but overall is perfect for this project). A dial which looked nice except the lume had been stripped and never replaced. And finally, a vintage Rolex crown to round everything nicely. The dial is not perfect, but this age of a dial wouldn't be. I wanted a tudor that looked just like the above pic. But my dial and new snowflake hands didnt match each other. My watchsmith didn't have a whole lot of desire to do a bunch of vintaged lume without me paying an arm and a leg. So he gave me the recipe he uses to make the lume and some crapped out dials to practice on. Now the dial and hands are my lume job...for better or worse. I am happy with them though. My WS orderd the proper movement ring. It isn't a spacer ring per say as it is very thin and hugs the movement only serving to lock it into place. but dang if this little ring wasn't $$$. An nice, Swiss ETA movment had its calender bits removed and was dropped in. I am not sure where the Rolex marked weight came from but it my WS had it in his "Hell Box" of parts so he threw it on. The case came with the tube and the crystal already mounted so those were left alone except a nice light sand and polish of the crystal. Insert also came with the case. It is missing the click spring I think but I am not so much worried about that since a watch this age may mot have it anyway. It is on the list for future updates. For right now it is on another Ebay purchase, a cordovan nato. Ok, that is enough blah, blah, blah. Here you go: At this point I am wiching I would have built the 6239 as the Daytona's have really, really grown on me. But at least this project turned out pretty dang good in my newbie opinion! And I was oing to build it sooner or later so I am happy I built it when parts were available.
  9. I sent JMB a MBK 1680 that Reg sourced and a few Yuki Tudor parts and after a few informative emails on how the build was progressing, here's what I received. It looks and feels incredible and I'm very pleased with how it turned it out. With all the work that was put into it I feel the overall cost was very reasonable and I'm definitely thinking about another. On the left:
  10. Seen this one on the bay and I'm wondering if the list price is in the right ballpark for one of these pieces? Any advice greatly received and yes just looking for now! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tudor-Submariner-Snowflake-94110-Amazing-Condition-/180918647230?pt=AU_Watches&hash=item2a1f9779be
