Your favorite band

Recommended Posts

Hi, I search for this, but only found a thread for 'what type of music you prefer’?

So rather than wonder what genre you like, I'm wondering what your all time favourite band is?

I listened to nothing else but Metallica for about 4 years when I was 18-22.

But now, without doubt ,my all time favourite band is Rancid. (Socal ska punk).

What's yours?

For me this goes without saying.

But when I was a kid it was Led Zeppelin. IV and Houses of the Holy are probably my most listened albums of all time.

Then it was Pink Floyd, Yes and King Crimson.

When I was about 20 I discovered Rush (which is kind of a mix between those).

I listen to all kinds of music though... but progressive rock is my main thing. I also like Dave Matthews Band a lot, which is completely different. I appreciate their talent and musicianship. Although it's only their live albums which do it for me... they're MUCH better and more powerful than their sterile studio work, and Dave Matthews solo material is cheesy crap.

I couldnt say where shes coming from,

But I just met a lady named dinah-moe humm

She stroll on over, say look here, bum,

I got a forty dollar bill say you cant make me [censored]

(yjes cant do it)

She made a bet with her sister whos a little dumb

She could prove it any time all men was scum

I dont mind that she called me a bum,

But I knew right away she was really gonna [censored]

(so I got down to it)

I whipped off her bloomersn stiffened my thumb

An applied rotation on her sugar plum

I pokedn stroked till my wrist got numb

But I still didnt hear no dinah-moe humm,

Dinah-moe humm

Dinah-moe humm

Dinah-moe humm

Where this dinah-moe

Comin from

Done spent three hours

An I aint got a crumb

From the dinah-moe, dinah-moe, dinah-moe

From the dinah-moe humm

I got a spot that gets me hot

But you aint been to it

I got a spot that gets me hot

But you aint been to it

I got a spot that gets me hot

But you aint been to it

I got a spot that gets me hot

But you aint been to it

cause I cant get into it

Unless I get out of it

An I gotta get out of it

Before I get into it

cause I never get into it

Unless I get out of it

An I gotta be out of it

To get myself into it

(she looked over at me with a glazed eye

And some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area

And she said...)

Just get me wasted

An youre half-way there

cause if my minds tore up

Then my body dont care

I rubbed my chinny-chin-chin

An said my-my-my

What sort of thing

Might this lady get high upon?

I checked out her sister

Who was holdin the bet

An wondered what kind of trip

The young lady was on

The forty dollar bill didnt matter no more

When her sister got nekkid an laid on the floor

She said dinah-moe might win the bet

But she could use a little ------- if I wasnt done yet

I told her...

Just because the sun

Want a place in the sky

No reason to assume

I wouldnt give her a try

So I pulled on her hair

Got her legs in the air

An asked if she had any cooties on there

(whaddya mean cooties! no cooties on me!)

She was buns-up kneelin

Buns up!

I was wheelin an dealin

Wheelin an dealin an ooooh!

She surrended to the feelin

She sweetly surrendered

An she started in to squealin

Dinah-moe watched from the edge of the bed

With her lips just a-twitchin an her face gone red

Some drool rollin down

From the edge of her chin

While she spied the condition

Her sister was in

She quivered n quaked

An clutched at herself

While her sister made a joke

bout her mental health

till dinah-moe finally

Did give in

But I told her

All she really needed

Was some discipline...

Kiss my aura...dora...

M-m-m...its real angora

Would yall like some more-a?

Right here on the flora?

An how bout you, fauna?

Ywanna?

Mmm...sound like ymight be chokin on somethin

Did you say you want some more?

Well, heres some more...

Mmm, sure...listen

Dyou think I could interest you

In a pair of zircon-encrusted tweezers?

Mmm...tweezers!

Here, lemme sterilize em...

Gimme your lighter...

I couldnt say where shes coming from,

But I just met a lady named dinah-moe humm

She stroll on over, say look here, bum,

I got a forty dollar bill say you cant make me [censored]

(yjes cant do it)

I whipped off her bloomersn stiffened my thumb

An applied rotation on her sugar plum

I pokedn stroked till my wrist got numb

An you know I heard some dinah-moe humm,

Dinah-moe humm

Dinah-moe

Dinah-moe

Dinah-moe

Dinah-moe

Note: The censoring application on RWG is not as it should be and dstroys the great lyrics of Zappas music..shame

No seriously this is an impossible question for me, I guess I have favourite bands in almost every spectrum of music...except rap, can't stand that.

Any Classic Rock, but If I had to pick... I can't just pick one, but I'll do 3: Zep, Floyd and Tull.

I just depends on the mood I'm in.

Ok, I realise now picking just one fave is too constricting, so how about listing your top three, five or even 10 and a brief description? Sound ok?

Music is like my second love and I'm always open to new tunes, which is why I want to hear yours. I like just about anything from soul to metal, underground disco to ska and everything in between (except deathmetal and country).

Here's mine:

Rancid; old school style but modern ska punk

Dance Hall Crashers: Dual harmonising vocals. The best example of 'third wave' ska

Distillers; female punk (really good and HOT singer - check em out)

Skulker; dual female vocals. Australian indie intellectual pop rock

Early Midnight Oil; shouldn't need any introduction.

Notable mentions; Corrosion of Conformity, the band Metallica should have become post the black album. And Suicidal Tendencies - the best band never to make it.

Hmmm, I'm sort of outta line here. My favourite band of all times must be The Bill Evans Trio of 1959 - 1961.

Bill Evans (p)

Scott La Faro (b )

Paul Motian (d)

Val.

Nice :).. Although for some More bebop myself Charlie Parker, dizzy and ella.... Bill evans is awesome although all of my favorite tracks he does have an undeniable Miles Davis touch to them.. i.e. Flamenco Sketches (he collaborated i think), Nardis (he has his own trio version) You into any newer jazz artists val??

@others: Am I the only Hendrix Head on this forum?? :bicycle:

The Who is one of my all time favorites. However I don't bother with their studio albums that much anymore... the live stuff is much better.

Live at Leeds is a classic of course but "Join Together" live from 1989 is my favorite. It has a big band along with the The Who and they play Tommy in its entity. Simon Phillips was much better drummer choice than Kenney Jones (who was average at best). I have the video too... watching Enwistle is always a treat.

Not all bands, but that's ok I hope. Anyway, not an exhaustive list, but some favourites:

Jehtro Tull (no intro needed I assume)

Billie Holiday (ditto)

Tom Waits (ditto)

David Bowie (ditto)

Claudio Monteverdi (Italian composer, gambist, and singer. 1567-1643)

John Dowland (English composer, singer, and lutenist. 1563

Albert King

Eric Clapton/Cream

Joe Bonamassa

Walter Trout

The pattern tends to be guitar Gods or guitar based bands and I have n't listed them in order

of general Awsomeness either ,as they are all great in their own individual ways.
