Got A Nice Compliment On My Watch Today

An art director I was working with saw my Bentley GT and admired it. He did comment that it was "blingy". Not a watch enthusiast, but a genuine compliment coming from him, esp. the admiration in his voice. I wasn't about to "fess-up", I just appreciated the compliment.

Any recent compliments/comments any of you have gotten for your watch(es)?

  • 2 weeks later...

Over the weekend got another compliment from a designer friend who is really into top brands. He admired my Bentley GT and I handed it to him. He loved the weight and likes Breitlings, we had a nice discussion about them (I've been studying the Breitling AND Breitling for Bentley sites a lot since getting the watch from Josh).

'kinda of what it's all about. I don't collect reps because I love "putting one over on people". I collect them because a select few of these watches are so close to the genuines, that the differences in the details are negligible, and the price difference is staggering. When someone notices and compliments, I accept graciously. If they inquire curiously about the name and brand, I hand it to them. If they question it's authenticity, I look them in the eye and say "You think this is a fake?" If the response is specific to a detail in the watch, and they are right about it, an interesting conversation usually follows. If their suspicions are based in nothing more than a belief that every expensive watch they see is a canal street rep, I politely ask for the watch back and continue on my way.

Interestingly enough, the discussions that continue about its' true origins are often the most satisfying. I get a chance to talk about what drives me in this passion. These are not cheap "knock offs", "copies" or "replicas". They are very high fidelity reproductions of mechanical pieces of art that are often well out of range financially from a large portion of the population that would otherwise appreciate them. They are rare and collectable in and of themselves.

Ditto, Crystal. Very well said.

I got into this because I like watches and had a friend who wanted a sub rep. I didn't, but ended up with a SD rep that I absolutely love. My Breitling rep, too. They are truly marvelously crafted timepieces with amazing detail. They're not 100% perfect to the gens, but the fit and finish is fantastic, they look and feel great on my wrist.

It's given me not only knowlege of good watches, but something fascinating to study and starts some really good conversations. And isn't it fun to share those conversations and compliments here?

i get compliments all the time on my rollies, most people really havent the slightest idea, even alot of people that have gens.

unless they're really into watches, they have no clue, even if they own the gen.

SO TRUE !! Most people 95% don't know the difference between a Casio for $15.00 or this

which goes for around $15,000.00. They would think this Chopard is something you'd win at the amusement park, and keep the Casio instead because they like the Casio rubber band.

To be fair though that Chopard probably does belong in an amusement park!!!! My wife has a Chopard, but slightly more discreet than that one....!

To answer the original question I get a lot of nice comliments on my PO, and a few bemused ones on my 112h!

My Bentley GT caused a highline auto shop owner in LA to stare during almost half of every conversation we had when I dropped the SL today. He had a genuine daytona and loved the GT.

Watch enthusiasts always love the pams...my 196 gets lots of love from those dudes.

Women love rolex, but will think its fake even if its real...! They also are loving Breitling since Nick Lache or whatever has been rocking one non-stop for the last few years....as well as many other celebs.
