browngo1
I'm thinking about my next rep purchase and have narrowed it down to either a 45mm UPO Orange Bezel on steel bracelet or a Patek Aquanaut Jumbo V2 on rubber (I recently bought the steel bracelet from another forum member to give me the option of both). I guess I will eventually buy them both, but can't make up my mind which one to pull the trigger on first. My current collection is as follows: SS GMTIIC (gen) SS DJ on a Jubilee (gen) Skyland Avenger V2 Black Dial (rep) Avenger Seawolf Yellow Dial (rep) Ebel Dicovery 1911 Panda (rep) I've trawled the forums and must have read almost everything available, for and against both watches, but I can't make my mind up! Just wondered what you guys thought. Which one would you go for first?
ubiquitous
Those are two very different choices there. Based on your current collection, I think the uPo would fit in a little better with regards to style and size. However, if you're looking for something different, the Aquanaut will certainly fit that criteria. The uPO is a watch that could stand some upgrades and the sort; the crown and tube being the biggest point of concern from a function standpoint. The Aquanaut may not require quite as much attention, but aesthetically it does have an incorrect ETA peeking out from the display caseback (not a concern if you don't take off the watch to show people). All in all... You may just have to get both. Or flip a coin
maxman
The Omega SMPO Is one of my favorite watches,so I guess you know what I would choose The new SMPO has the updated dial without the happy feet. But as ubi mentioned, the crown/tube will probably have to be addressed at some point and time. I have the orange bezel chronograph,I have had the watch for about a year and a half,no problems with the crown yet. Good luck with your decission G
browngo1
Thanks for your opinions guys. I saw the updated UPO's, but only with the black bezel at the moment, however, I assume that the orange bezel will be available shortly. I still quite fancy a display caseback, even although the movement is incorrect, so I might go for the Aquanaut first. Decisions, decisions!! txcollector
even with the updated UPO (only real change was the logo that wasn't that noticeable in the first place) you will still have a number of mods to make it gen like: crystal (the rep is cloudy), dial color, lume (very noticeable even during the day), crown/tube (some folks had issues with cross threading). The Aquanaut is very gen like from the front like others said. You will never have a rep movement that will look like a Patek but how many times do you handle you watch for someone to inspect it? plaifender
Go for the UPO and franken it. It's an absolute classic. Just gave mine a gen crown, tube and crystal laast weekend. First watch mods i've ever done myself . Very happy with the results :

plaifender
Thanks a mil Max! p.s. when did the term SMPO start getting used, i've seen it a few times recently, not sure if it's just you Maxman, but the term PO is sufficient don't you think?? No reason to further confuse folks with SMP vs. SMPO etc.
