this is low beat movt right?

why is high beat preferred over low beat?

reliability or performance?

waiting for the experts to chime in

Manual Wind Pams use high beat 6497-2. Only the earlier Pre-V models uses the usual low beat 6497.

Apparently high beat is less noisier and the second has a smoother sweeping move (of course u wun be able to differentiate), and more reliable.

There are a couple of 44mm Luminor PAMs that use a lo-beat movement, one that comes to mind is the gen 318.

Pam 318 movement is same 005. Panerai OP II, 16½ lignes, 17 jewels, Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges. Glucydur® balance with Nivarox® I spring, 21,600 alternations/hour. Incabloc® anti-shock device.

Not the same movement.

This was OP's response when asked about the 318's movement ( OPXXIX 18,000 alternations per hour)...

"The movement of more direct comparison to the 'OPXXIX (PAM000318) is OPII (PAM000005).

The two movements differ in the number of alternations and the certifdicazione COSC.

The OPII has 21,600 alternations / hour and is COSC

The OP has XXIX 18,000 alternations per hour and is not COSC.

The OP XI OP II has the same features but a different basis.

Unfortunately we can not disclose what will be the possible future use of the caliber OP XXIX."

For the simple reason that if you buy a replica, you want the number of beats per minute to match that of the genuine watch. If you are buying a vintage Rolex replica, you want a lower beat movement. If you are buying a modern Rolex then you want a high beat movement.

You can look at the sweep seconds hand and see if something is low or high beat, SO you want your replica's movement to be the same beats a minute as the genuine watch.

It has nothing to do with performance or reliability.

thanks for the info

low beat will not matter then for base models such as pam 112 or 176

just wondering why there have been comments with low beat movt as "old and crappy"
