lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Looking for advice here guys. 1. What's a good starting rep for building a frankenGMT? 2. What am i going to need other then a gen insert, etc.... any help would be appreciated, i want to do a modern one with a sapphire crystal, not a vintage.
slickdick Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) Oliver is the guy to talk to, his got a funky piece assembled. checkout his poll : gen or rep GMT II Edited November 17, 2006 by slickdick
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 yeah, i saw it, so nice. nice name by the way, hahahahahahaha, love it
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 This is the look that i'm going for. Oliver, ooooh Oliver, where are you?
gioarmani Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I was quite satisified with Andrew's Eta GMT. Very nice case & rehaut.
ubiquitous Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 J- I highly recommend using the TW Best GMTII as the basis: Nice case, bezel is closer in size to gen, etc. etc. Mine is slightly modded; lug holes drilled and a few other small items addressed, but will be receiving some other mods sometime down the road when I get around to it. I have a pretty extensive list pulled together for this one... But for now, there are higher priorities elsewhere Only problem may be finding one... These, like most other TW Best Classics are long, long gone...
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 great randy, lol, thanks for putting me on that wild goose chance, geeeeeeeez
docblackrock Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 great randy, lol, thanks for putting me on that wild goose chance, geeeeeeeez Randy's sadism knows no bounds I should have bought more TW's when I had the chance back in the day - hindsight is a real bastard Personally, I'd go for the new bastardized hour-adj 16710, see if you can find a decent dial, drop a gen insert and you're 99% there.
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 where can the new bastardized hour-adj 16710 be sourced?
docblackrock Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Last I checked, most dealers had them. But beware, that movement got a real kicking from The Zigmeister.
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 well thats no good.....but i aint givin up on this one
ubiquitous Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Yes indeed... That cobbled movement didn't receive much praise, did it? None the less, the 16710 is just too intriguing not to give it a try.
Jetsons Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 J, I was contemplating a similar project and came up with some thoughts that you may find of some use. 1) Start off with the Homer or equivalent GMT which looks very good. Check into Bytor's review on this one. 2) Source an ETA 2893-2 (terrific movement) and loose the basterdized 2836-2 movement. Tourbillon1801 can help on this front plus a good price. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=10531 3) Source hands for 2893-2. This chap has them as probably others, http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCH-HANDS-FOR-MENS-G...1QQcmdZViewItem Best of luck!
lionsandtigers Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 thanks serg, still got a bracelet for ya whats the "homer"?
Jetsons Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Homer was a UK based dealer that was here for a while. Actually, I meant PT (precious time) but other dealers now have the exact watch as well. We need to have a cool one or two, J. Let me know when it's good for you.
