Rolex 1016 build using a Tudor 2784 and Yuki adapter. Advise required please chaps

Hi Chaps, 

On with my next project, an Explorer 1016 using a Gen 16014 case which would normally take the 1570 movement.

I could really do with some advise regarding the Tudor 2784 eta movement(and Yuki adapter ring) i had in mind for this build. I assume that i need to remove the Calendar parts on the movement so the dial can sit flush? I'm using a Gen luminova service dial which will have the positioning feet removed so no issues there. If so what parts need to get taken off?

Appreciate any help on this one

Uff, to be honest I would not start to remove the date function.

 

Please don't waste a gen Tudor movement! Sell it and buy 4x 2783 for that money, or keep it in your parts drawer for another project.

 

PLEASE don't do it :)

Hi 1680, I tend to agree with you, but i was lucky and bagged the movement for a small sum of money. Also the rotor is so much quieter than the standard eta movements. I guess i could always store the calendar parts and if i ever tire f the 1016 then i can always pop in an eta movement. 

What needs removing?

Do you have the ETA documents? As far as I'm aware you need to remove all parts that are involved with the calender including: datewheel, jumper, jumper plate, calendar driving wheel, date corrector, intermediate date wheel.

 

And you need a new setting lever (445/2) with only 2 positions.

Not that this answers your question, but a 16014 would have used a 3035, not a 1570.

 

Gen dial will be awesome. Finding a decent dial has always been the toughest part of these builds. Can't wait to see the result!

According to Ranfft, the 2784 is a 28800 bph- wouldn't be my first choice for a 1016 build given the 1570 is a 19800 bph. The 2846-2 will fit the 16013 case and be closer at 21,600 bph.

Of course, that being said, I built my 1016 w/ a 2824-2, but that was because I used a 1601 case.

I don't think you need to remove the date stuff since the movt. is only 5.2mm tall- it should fit fine- hopefully the stem lines up.

Thanks Tom, in my giddy state i did let that little fact pass me by! I also have a 1500 case set too and i think while doing my research  that's where i got my crossed wires.

Bugger! I wrongly assumed that because it was a 17 jewel movement i thought it would be a slow beat. Another valueble lesson learned.
