6538 Submariner Need info

Carolyn

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm about to offer this watch for sale, but I need to know as much info as I can on this watch. What I know is that the bezel and bezel insert are aftermarket and it is bigger than the original as the "big crown" that is supposed to be on this watch doesn't fit.  I purchased the 6538 big crown on ebay but when we had our watchmaker try to install it, it didn't fit.  I'm thinking the dial is refinished as well. The serial is worn down and not readable, but the model number is readable. Here are some photos if anyone else knows anything more about this watch and what you think it could sell for, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance.

Carolyn

The only thing genuine there is the us made 19mm band and the 1030 movement. Fake case and everything else.

Very suspect, movemnt gen, bacelet probably, but there is a small chance the mid case is genuine and maybe the crown? Certainly some parts are aftermarket and some are gen.

I don't think it's a MQ case, see the machined o-ring groove around the movement opening?  My MQ is flat there.

This should be described as a 6536 or 6536/1 since it's a small crown, and has the 1030 movement.  A 5508 would have the small crown too, with a 1530 movement.

Well it certainly is an interesting franken. It's value may come down to the sum of it's two gen parts- the movement and the bracelet which appears to be a 7205. Of course, a 7206 bracelet would be correct for this watch. The mid case is good, but would be better with a gen like bezel, if one could be fitted to the case. Springbars look nice and fat which is also good.

I'd figure the movement is worth around $1000 and the bracelet is $250-300, possibly more in the right market.

I would agree with most of the previous comments, but with the result being less objectionable to my eye.

Were it mine, I would have a watchmaker disassemble and sell the obviously genuine parts - movement, crown, caseback, bracelet (though it is incorrect for this case) & hands (probably genuine, but need better macro pics to be sure)). The mid-case may also be genuine, but it may be for a different model.

Or, if you decide to keep it (I would) & can afford to put some money into it, source more accurate (genuine or good aftermarket) dial, mid-case & bezel/insert & have a watchmaker properly service & assemble it into a really nice vintage watch
