Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk In forum pics yes A, "miles apart" does apply to a reasonable extent. The V7 is a lovely watch also in real life, I just saw one on the wrist of my friend. But honestly, with so many iterations, V1-V7 and those in between (V3.5, V4.1, V5.1 etc), I would be hard pressed to tell the later versions apart, especially for modded units, when I spot a diver, gen or otherwise, on someone's wrist. Perhaps it is just not my bailiwick (cue member folex, where are you bro? ) I like the diver, and could not justify spending the money on a gen, given the steadily improving quality of the reps. Thanks to my discussion with member folex over the "white border issue" for the inner bezel numbers, I would be holding off purchasing the ss diver until this is resolved. Maybe if something came out that was "perfect" I would upgrade, but I have found that every time a new model is released, they make incremental improvements in one area, but either fail to address other faults or make them worse. The rep manufacturers are business people, they know full well that if they build a 99.99% copy of any watch, they will sell folks one and that's it. This is the gen of the FC diver, notice how the font is slightly different and the lume application is also very different. The closest factory ive seen so far to replicate this is H factory. The main flaw with that is the slightly yellow tint on the lume, in which if it was white, i would 100% go for it. I think the H is severely under-rated and they deserve more credit. To return to our topic of the accuracy of the inner bezel. The regular SS version has a slight difference in font and lume application which really bothers me. The level of detail in the lume application is more than the FC divers which makes it obvious that it is a rep. Its sad to see how such minor details have such a huge impact of the big picture of the diver. It becomes one of those: so close yet so far. Someone posted a pict of the gen diver, id repost it here. Even from a distance u can still tell the difference. (Pict #2) But on the topic of the factories intentionally not making it right, i completely agree with what they are doing. But i think if they switched the strategy to making it right, charging a premium, and make more accurate models, they might make more money. But hey, everyone has different arguments. I for one would be willing to pay 2x more for an accurate model, and wouldnt most of us, which is why many end up modding and going franken. The biggest problem with spending double what the watch costs to get it from 94% to 97%, occurs when you try to sell it. You are NOT going to recoup your modding costs. Some folks are luckier than others, sometimes it depends on the model and popularity, but in reality, you will be lucky if you get the cost of the watch and half of your modding costs back at sale. Also, we don't usually factor in the price of shipping a watch back and forth between modders, the frustration factor of getting a freshly modded watch home, only to find out the it's now running 30 minutes per day fast or slow, The chrono subdial hands are not zeroed, and on and on and on!! I believe that all of these factors are a big reason that some of our most active members here, folks who have built or had built some pretty amazing watches, eventually give up in frustration and switch over to gens. So as folex said, I would much rather pay twice the price upfront for one that is 99% and can be worn straight out the box, needs no mods and is accurate and reliable.
