Rolex DSSD Dblue Gen vs Rep Comparison

There are a few watches that I like very much that I buy several versions of them.
Rolex DSSD is one of them.
My first one was a BK DSSD. Then I bought from Wathfreund the BK/Pbdad DSSD.
I like it a lot so I bought a gen Mark 1 dial one. Then the Noob 2014 DSSD came out.
I bought it to do a gen vs rep comparison. I find it close enough to the gen so I sold the gen and kept that.
But the insert font color kept bothering me. So I sold the Noob 2014.
Then I got the chance to buy a gen Dblue; I am buying it as a gift for my newborn son. I will keep it mint until he is 17.
Having none DSSD in the collection to wear do bother me. So I bought another gen Mark 1 M series Black DSSD.
But I made a mistake of sanding the bezel with a sandpaper and manage to scratch the ceramic insert.
It bugged me a lot, I sold it and bought the Noob Dblue to do another gen vs rep comparison also to curb my urge to wear the gen Dblue.
I think I have said too much, so here comes the pics:

The gen Dblue:

Comparison:
Gen is on bracelet, rep is on RubberB

Dial

The gen has lighter blue color and more gradient compared to rep.
Although I must say that the blue color on the rep looks more elegant. The one on the gen is a bit cartoonish.
But the gradient in the gen gives more "ocean" feel. From blue to black.
While the rep dial feels like you start at the middle of the ocean already. (if you get what i mean)

BUT.... There is a HUGE difference about the dial that makes this rep is worse thatn the predecessor Black Noob DSSD.
There is always a great debate regarding the latest rolex dials. Some say it is glossy, some say it is matte, while some say it is a satin dial.
If you ever see the gen black DSSD, you will know it looks like. It looks glossy due to the crystal but on certain angle/lighting, it will turn satin.
It isn't matte dial. It is matte but has a little shine to it. It is hard to describe, you have to see it to understand it.
That brings me to Dblue dial. What dials that the gena nd rep Dblue has to offer?

SURPRISE. The gen has glossy dial, but the rep has the matte dial effect that most of us vintage rolex lover usually do.
Put a matte varnish over a glossy dial. It looks "aged". This makes the dial easily recognizable as a rep dial.

PEARL & INSERT

Pearl on the rep insert looks bigger. and the rim is nicer and more prominent on the gen.

I don't scrutinize to font details on insert since I don't think normal people will take notice on different font shapes.
But the color is still the same. Too white on the rep. Hopefully the v2 will make the rep insert looks closer to gen.
Although I seriously doubt it.

CASING AND CASEBACK

More or less like the Noob Black DSSD case.
It is excellent.

The rep bracelet is excellent. I would say it is very close to gen.
I forgot to take a picture of the SEL fitment.
The shape of the SEL on the Noob DSSD Black dial is diffferent from gen.
The gen is more protruding. I suppose this one also has the same difference.

Some parting shots:

In conclusion:

The color on the dial is different but the rep one is actually nicer.
My biggest regret is that the rep dial has "aging matte" finish to it.
If only it has a glossy dial all the time, I would love to have it in my collection.
So I am back to ordering a Noob DSSD Black dial v2.

Anyway, it is still a great looking watch.
And the gradient color is more fun to look at compared to the original black one.
But if you want a watch that is closer to the gen, then the Black dial is the route to take.

Thanks for reading. Hopefully it helps.
