Before I became broke...

Recommended Posts

I bought this Gen a couple of years ago when times were better, it's a 764xxx from 1962 it's what's called a tropical dial with uniform spiderwebbing, dial is all original as are the hands, the hands may have been relumed some time ago but they are original to the watch. It's never been in a collection and walked into the dealers shop from the original owner. Oh how I miss this one.

It doesn't get much nicer than a 5508 like this. Shame you had to let it go, but understand sometimes you just need to free up 10k+!

I was a mad flipper at one time, traded her for a Red 1680! I found this to be way too small (38mm) and felt like

I wasn't wearing a Sub. Traded her for the Red(which I sold) to pay for tuition for my daughter's university with no regrets.

Well you could always build a rep of the 5508. Having seen your recent gilt 5513, it certainly wouldn't be that hard for you to do. I realize it wouldn't be the same as having the gen, but sometimes we have to make do!

I wish I built the gilt, but a rep of this one wouldn't cut it for me, it's the history of the vintage pieces that do it for me.

Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved!

Yes, I believe it applies to watches as well.

Nice way to put it. Most of us only dream of owning a gen grail like this someday. You got to live the dream, my friend!
