GTM Master 1675 or 16710

Does anyone know if there is an OOTB non-ceramic GMT that will take a Gen Dial, Insert, and Crown, and possibly Gen Bezel assembly. I know that there are no acceptable 1675 reps but hope that there may be a 16710. Before anyone jumps on me, I have been searching and reading posts but honestly feel even more dumb now after doing so. So many of the topics are outdated, contradict one another it is frustrating. I have a 16710.Gen dial and insert I can get, and crowns are simple. Anyways, if anyone could let me know a TD, and model I would greatly appreciate it, or better yet if someone has one for sale it would be perfect.

Thanks

Great question, as I´ve just received my TW maker 16700 from the Marvellous Replica and have a used GEN Xtal incoming and bnib GEN Pepsi Insert...and honestly I do not know if these will fit the TW maker 16700. So yes I´m very interested too to know  :g:

It is just frustrating with 1675, 16750, 16700, 16710. I forgot to mention that I also want to be able to use a Gen Crystal. I have given up on a 1675, am in love with drilled lugs and a tropic crystal but a 16710 will suffice. Just confusing as hell. Hope someone with a lot more knowledge can chime in and set this record straight.

Well here you go:

About a month ago, I got a 1675 from Toro. I stuck a gen crystal on there and it fit pretty well, the retaining ring is still a bit too big to really tighten up the crystal, but I might just glue it in....well see.

Then about 2 weeks ago, I picked up a cartel 1675 from Andrew and there is no way a gen crystal is fitting on that thing. Its actually like some wierd stepped bezel where the retaining ring would normally go, there is no retaining ring, and the bezel has this octagonal spring in it...strange. Never seen anything like it before. Also, this one had a huge dial. Like 30mm. So theres no way to swap a Gen Dial either. Sucks too, because I think the case actually has a better shape than the Toro model I got.

Then Toro model had a 27-28mm dial opening and would fit a gen dial, or yuki, whoop, etc.

But yes a gen crystal (Tropic 116) does fit on the Toro 1675: http://www.torobravo2015.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=39_217&product_id=1292

Reppin,

Thank u for the reply, ton of help and the links are greatly appreciated. 1675 is my preferred build but thinking about a 16710. U have any thoughts on this one?

Have followed a few sales adds to this model and it appears that it will take Gen parts as well. Just trying to decide which route would be the best from an accuracy, standpoint. Ease of acceptability of parts and monetary restraints considered as well. Thanks again for your input.

Not a bad option at all, im sure its just like the subs in that it will take some gen parts.

There is NO really close GMT unfortunatley, but I have had one of these from Andrew and it was a great piece...just never wore it so I sold it!

I will also say thing.

The 1675 and 6542 are probably the 2 hardest vintage rolex's to build. Period.

So trust me, unless you just want to spend alot of time and money, just get a 16710!

Actually think that I am going to go that route. I just picked up a Gen fat font lightly faded Pepsi Insert for 16710. Gonna try to build one reminiscent of a late 80's model with gen tritium dial. Am I correct in that the crown should be 5mm as I'll grab a Gen one of those. Will have to get the lugs drilled so i will need to find one to do the final assembly along with lugs. Just to clarify to, as building one of this year should not have a lec on Crystal, these do not take Gen crystals?

Does no one actually do research anymore? It's not that hard to find posts about pretty much any Rolex build anyone wants to attempt.

First of all, if you are choising between a franken 1675 and a 16710, you should be going with the 1675 as parts are more redily available and the end result will be better. You also get a correct hand stack.

If your heart is set on the 16710, then start with this post, which pretty much gives you the blueprint for doing the best project you can.

And this one.

Getting the old Explorer II case will be the tricky part.

Better yet, post a WTB for a BK Transformer.

Tomhorn, you are exactly right. The 16710 was a very nice build, I love the way it turned out. The only tell, as you said, is the incorrect hand stack. The 1675 with either the ETA or DG movement would have the correct hand stack.

The 1675 uses a 5.3mm crown, the 16710 uses a 6mm crown.

I bought both donor watches from TrustyTime, The 16570 used for the 16710 http://www.ttw8888.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=+%09ROLEXP2032+&x=21&y=29

and the 1655 used for the 1675 http://www.ttw8888.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=+%09ROLEXP2009+&x=21&y=25

Both are modded as needed, and both can be ordered with either ETA or DG movement, so the fit of the movement is easier in your build. Both take the 28mm dial.

Gen spec crystals can be used. I used crystals, bezels and inserts for both from Clark's.
