Tempus Machina replica, how would you do it?

hologramet

Recommended Posts

No, unfortunately, I did not get one. Even if I had that kind of money I don't think I'd put it into this gen.

I wrote to them and ask a few questions and said that I would like a picture of the case back and this is what they sent.

Gotcha. It is truly a special watch but overpriced IMO....

You don't mind asking PBdad which crystal and gasket he ended up using?

Sure he's still working on it but I may be able to help. I think he had a custom Crystal made for me but also recall him ordering extras. It takes him a few days to reply to me but I'll post what he says.

Hey guys - I know this is a bit random but I think I may pass off my build with PBDad to someone else. If anyone is interested PM me for details.  It should be done in the next 30-90 days and will likely be the only rep in existence minus the one hologramet is working on.  PBDad is doing a custom one off domed crystal, custom one off dial w/ red depth, and custom one off coin toothed bezel..

Nice I wonder if you can polish it a bit to look shiny

Already done... Hard to capture in picture though...

Looks exactly like the one on the original. Important to respect drying times of about 48hs for enamel paint. Otherwise, acetone, and redo...

This is an awesome read! Brings tears to my eyes. I want more of the blowtorch story.

Glad that you like it, 2 steps forward 1 step back, from start to finish :)

I've met 3 times i wanted to give up:

1) When redoing the lugs to be uniform I accidently made 2 dips, that took almost 20 hs manual work with the dremel/sanding strips to hide, and they're still there but hard to noticeIMG_20160228_112833.thumb.JPG.9ece8ef94b

2) The bezel. I don't know how many hs before going to be I've been filing and sanding, and filing and sanding.. Since I wanted the bezel to get a brassy finish, I gave it a go with the blowtorch. Done it before on all sorts of stuff. I was however struck by the oh-no-second when I cooled the torched bezel under cold water from the tap. Didn't give it much though before trying it on the watch, realising that the "tight" fit, was not completely loose. I have a new bezel coming in, I guess I just have to brush myself off and try again. Sad, since I was really-really satisfied with it.

3) The bezel insert... Early I made the mistake of brushing the triangle with 1200-grit paper lightly scratching the insert. I couldn't let it go, so I decided to sand down the whole insert... Which took a while to get it good, what then happens, when finally done, it snaps on me when cementing it to the insert. Just order a new one from Aliexpress, and redo.

Hi this is mine

Does anyone know where I can get a bezel insert for it ?

It seems that you have a Cartel 6538 base?

Don't know if you will find a direct replacement regarding the insert, as were talking about completely different watches.

You have a non-genuine-sized 6538-case with a propritetary bezel insert size, and this build is using a genuine-sized ceramic submariner-case.
