I am desperate - hip dysplasia

Alfalover

Recommended Posts

Hello guys. As I have said in another topic I work in the canary islands now, I have a very low wage but at least I don't feel the weight of my mother having to pay food and other necessities for me. My mother called me crying today, our dog, the dog my father bought before leaving, has hip dysplasia. If we don't do something we will have to suppress him because he will suffer too much.

Now the paradox. There is something we can do, 100% sure. He can have a hip prothesis implanted and recover 100%, he is 9 months old and he's all my mother has.

In Italy, the operation costs 4500€ for each leg for a total of 9000€ plus the doctor visiting him and xrays. I can't believe a human being would let a dog die just because of money. I am selling my inherited rolex (from my father https://rwg.cc/topic/182037-inherited-rolex?page=1 ) straight away, but it is worth 5000€ at best, and I still have to send it to Domi and it will cost me amother 550€ considering shipping.

I am desperate. Absolutely desperate, his hips will dislocate and he'll suffer so much if I don't do anything. I live on 600€ minus rental and expenses and I'm left with around 100€ per month and my contract isn't enough for a bank to lend me anything (went today). What would you guys do? Maybe I just need words of comfort...I know how it will end..I can't believe it is only a matter of money. I consider myself a man but I am crying like a child.

Really sorry to hear that. :(

Post up some photos of your dog and also of the watches in your collection that you're thinking of selling. I hope you can find a way to help him. Maybe contact Mike on a bike to see about becoming VIP so you can sell here.

Hello, thankyou very much for the replies, I am very very sad. This is the dog...he is so sweet, he really doesn't deserve this.

As you can see in the picture too, he's always sitting because of his dysplasia. In the picture he is tied to a chain, something I do for a few minutes per day, just the time to try and give him some medicines to stop him suffering so much. He doesn't like them and he tries to run and cries a lot. It is devastating

I'm so sorry to hear this, I had a similar situation years ago but it involved 2 torn acl's which also required very expensive surgery. We went to a specialist who financed us for the work and we paid it off over time, is that at all a possibility in Italy? Have you called every last place to find out? Try to do something like that, also the surgery seems a little expensive, have you thought about going to a vet "school" they usually charge less and are just as good in my experience. good luck

Unfortunately the prosthesis has to be bought in advance and no one is willing to lend us the money. I have spent countless hours on the phone. It seems that my dog will have to pay for my inability to gain a decent position in society and being able to pay for his cures. I am trying to understand if anything I possess could be sold, rolex included obviously, but unfortunately I do not own much

Have you tried to put your watch up on VRF? Vintage Rolex Forum. I'm sure if you post some good photos there will be someone who would be willing to buy it from you. I would suggest getting the watch opened and take some good photos of the watch including the movement. They are also going to need a tagged photo as well. Good luck.

I feel for you @Alfalover, I really do. I also understand what it is like to be feeling desperate and helpless.

I said "feeling", because as long as kindness and humanity exists, you are NOT helpless, nor should you be desperate.

Do I understand that you may have a shortage of about 4000-5000Euros after you are done selling your watch?

Yes this may be more than a problem about money, but money would help take care of a salient part of it I believe.. ;)

But first things first, are you able to give a clear indication of how much is needed?

Thank you kindly.

Alfalover as far as helping you find a place to get value of your watch or place to sell as a watch board we can surely help out as far as the tragic problem with your Moms dog best to check out some charities that help out with such things (we have them in the USA) to make up the short fall. You know I put down 2 of my dogs sometimes you just have to be strong for them not to suffer.

Exactly, I will have a shortage of around 4000€. Thankyou very much for your words, you guys are giving me the strength to keep going.

I think it is a problem of money most of all, I have no problem in living a humble life and working hard, but knowing that someone else might pay with his life for my shortage of money makes me feel ashamed. The operation costs exactly 4000€ per side of the hip, for a total of 8000€, plus something for visits and medicines but it is the minor part.

Guys, I REALLY want to thank you all for feeling for me and being so close. THANKYOU

Thankyou mike! I am looking for charities in Italy, thanks for the advice, I hope to find something soon. I know that there are situations, like incurable diseases, that need people to be strong and accept the truth. The thing I can't get over is that he can be cured, but he will die for my fault.

Hello guys, I have news. First I would like to thank some users for writing to me in PM and helping me A LOT. These people were fantastic with me.

Second, the local vet and I went to the market and raised 4000€, I was astonished. The vet has the money and as soon as I will reach the 8000€ the dog will have his operation. Now I just need to find 4000€ plus another 600€ for the visits. It's way harder than it sounds and I am still quite sure I won't make it or won't make it on time. In case I don't make it the money will go to a fund for helping stray dogs.

It seems weird to me coming on a board like this asking people you don't know for money. I mean it's not like you're a long time member. Don't you have actual friends in real life?

Sorry, these threads rub me the wrong way. Whole thing stinks in my opinion. I'm really sorry if your dog is sick. If mine was sick and I didn't have the money I'd take a loan from a loan place or otherwise and work my ass off to pay it back not join a bunch of forums and ask for money. It's pathetic in my opinion. If you couldn't get a loan and had to put the dog down then that's certainly incentive to work hard and try and change your financial position so that you never have to make that difficult choice again. Sorry, this thread stinks.

The boards position is stated here in my post above, just in case you missed it.

"Alfalover as far as helping you find a place to get value of your watch or place to sell as a watch board we can surely help out as far as the tragic problem with your Moms dog best to check out some charities that help out with such things (we have them in the USA) to make up the short fall."

I felt no compunction to be blunt.

Harsh guys. I did the OP ask outright for money? I think he just wants to share his sadness at a desperate situation.

Alfalover, I'm sure with a little patience and persistence, you'll sell you gen Rolex. Hope you'll then have enough to help your dog.

I too was skeptical until I pm'd the op about the watch, he never asked me if I wanted to buy the watch or ask me for money, he simply thanked me for my concern for his dog and nothing more. Yes, a bit harsh on the op guys, I think he's genuine and just concerned for his dog and feeling a bit at the end of his rope. It doesn't help that English isn't his first language and some of his message gets lost in translation so to speak. Also, remember that this guy is in Italy, and if it's anything like Spain with our almost 40% unemployment then I truly feel his frustration. Let's not judge until you've walked a mile...

Very sorry and sad to hear this, it´s terrible it had to happen and Your Mother is so alone with You far away.

The other thing is to be realistic, it seems You & Family are in poor financial condition after Your Father left.

Imho there are 2 ways of action:

a.) the kind dog is just 9 months old, it is already suffering a lot of pain and partially chained up, spare it a life of later, recurring problems even after the operation is done (there are no 100% treatments and dozens of different cirurgeries are used) and kindly put it to sleep with an injection; meanwhile save another puppy from the local Canil or through the Vet from a hard life and uncertain future;

Save up and repair the Rolex Your Father left You as the only thing and keep it for a future hardship, You never know how life plays in the future;

b.) invest more time in talking to Vet´s and charitable organizations through the Internet, consider going to another country (Poland? Ucraine?) for doing the operation at a much lower cost than in Italy; Maybe locally in the Canaries as travelling is a problem. Consider alternative treatments starting with weight reduction (scroll down to about 1/2 onwards: http://www.2ndchance.info/hipdysplasiadog.htm

It´s not Your fault.

From the writings I´d suppose You are in the early 20´s and there is much ahead. You are in no way culprit to the dog´s hip dysplasia nor to not having the savings for a potential improvement. You have to get over this. What You can do is to build up for the future and by the way You are easily giving up Your Fathers legacy at the first problem it seems You are not yet doing so. Think that Yourself and You Mother are not getting younger with each day that passes. Have faith, believe in Yourself "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny" C.S.Lewis

Wishing the best outcome.

I love animals as much as anyone and yes I feel for anyone who has these problems.

That said as MOAB has pointed out this is not the place to raise funds and the Admin team is against the practice of approaching our members with such a request.

It makes very little difference that the OP is not actively asking for funds as it has been put out there that he needs 4000 euro so now, through the good will of some members, funds will be raised.

If you do wish to help this member it is entirely your own choice but it must be remembered there is no way to actually verify the situation.

The problem for the admin team is do we appear heartless and lock this thread or do we risk this snowballing until everyone is asking for help of some kind.

Well said, Ken.

As sad as this is, it's probably not the right arena for this thread - though if there are members who are willing to help, then it says alot about a replica watch forum, doesn't it? :)

Oh guys, I am really sorry to hear that. I didn't mean to approach the members asking for funds, nor I would like to see this thread locked. In the beginning I opened the topic because I find this place gorgeous and felt I could share even this sort of thing. I though maybe someone would come up with an idea or something I hasn't thought of. I don't want to to break any rules, by any means, so if you want to lock the thread or delete it I will accept your decision with no problems, rules are rules. I am sorry for having caused a problem, this forum is such a nice place, really full of ''fine watches and fine people''. I have received lots of affection in this thread and that is more than I could ask.

P.S. I just read the posts above. I'm sad lots of people are so skeptical about what is happening to me, but as others have said I have asked no money. I could lie to you and say I wouldn't accept it but I won't. If you prefer I won't accept money from any users, it is really important for me to be respected here. I'm not a lazy person and I am working hard. Unemployment is terrible in my country but I left my family, all for the sake of working. Anyway thankyou again for all your kind words, you are all very special

I have actual friends in real life but unfortunately at 23 years old, most of us don't have a job and the ones that do, earn more or less what I earn. I have NOT come to this board asking for money, I have come because I love watches and I felt like sharing this, please read or ask before saying such things. I am working my ass off, you shouldn't offend me and say I'm pathetic just because I spoke about a problem. If I have come here to work, it is only because I want to change my position and who knows where I will be in one or two years, this doesn't make the thread stink, I didn't come begging for money, I just told a story, my story, if you don't like it don't write to me, or support me, I really don't know what to do with offences in this moment of my life.

Imajedi shares my concerns. I would be much more likely to donate if this kid was honest..."I have no work ethic and no marketable skills. Please subsidize my lifestyle"

I am not the kind of person you are describing. I started off my life in Colombia, in Cartagena precisely, in one of the poorest barrios. Didn't own a pair of shoes and me and my family worked our way out of that kind  of [censored]. So it is unfair for me to be described like that. I just started off further down than many others, it doesn't mean one day I will still be in this condition (that is ok for me compared to other people still living in colombia so I still thank god for being so lucky).

Hang in there bud, ppl will always be sceptical of these things it's normal but I think you're halfway there so keep up the good work and do your best, that's all you can do. I just got back from Colombia and saw first hand how most ppl live down there (was in Cartagena for some of the time) it's a tough life and I'm glad you worked your way out. I for one am willing to donate a few thing for an auction if Mike approves, with the proceeds going to the vet where the surgery will take place. Would be very happy to do that.

I am once again speechless... But for once I want to post something happy.

It is curious that I didn't tell you my dog's name and that no one asked, I don't know why :)

The dog's name is Alfa which is tied to alfaromeo obviously and Alpha referred to the highest ranking individual, in this case in my house hahaha

here are some pictures of a few months ago!

And that is my mom :)
