Gents there has been some discussion among-est the crew on bringing back one of our modders "Spinmaster" now there were some parts problems in the past and to our knowledge no watches MIA. This being said there were some issues years ago so I will let others with first hand knowledge put forth what happened with the parts issues from "David" and also what Spin has been doing since then , you might be surprised. Our goal here is to get a much needed modder out in far East in the mix, we have Europe and USA pretty covered but as you know waits are still long....... So say your piece keep it thoughtful and civil please, you know I run things like a court I am neutral and base opinion on the merits.

This matter it was felt would be better served if you the members put in your 2 cents so fire away.

Love the idea of getting members involved. The mods and flavor here here is awesome

Just hope it stays civilized.

Never dealt with him personally but bought a DW Spinmaster 6263 a couple years ago from the original owner who never did anything to it. The mod work and assembly was excellent. It was a very nice, very good running Franken.

I am always for giving people second chances.

Thank you Mike.

I do know spin personally and he is a regular family guy with a job and an interest in horological modifications like a lot of us. He is a competent and capable watch smith in my opinion.

I have worked with him in the past two years, to churn out modded AP divers and other modded AP watches and without bias, I do think that he does a good job on those.

Whatever happened in the past could have marred his reputation in some way, but I am here to assure the community that he is not a scammer, or a greedy person. I would advocate that we give him a chance to return, he would be an asset to our community, especially those based in Asia.

We have great and knowledgeable guys like Misiekped, SSteel, Rolexman etc based in the CONUS and Europe, let us welcome someone who could help guys based in Asia and even the Middle East.

I will vouch for his competence and trustworthiness. He is a personal friend and like I said, I've worked with him many times and I know him well.

I would love to get me one of those DW Daytonas. Heard great stuff about his work. But there was a fall out because of something I'm not too sure about. Would love a Modder based in Asia due to the growing fan base. Havent been here long enough to know what happened previously.

Go for it. Our moderators know best, if they say it's good for the members then it has my vote. :)

The moderators here sometimes do not know best, and often, its established members like yourself that could teach us a thing or two.

Thank you for your kindness and willingness to give spinmaster a chance to serve the community again! ;)

I Agree , whatever the past its past and people deserve a 2nd chance.

All of my AP and Panerai have been done by Spin and I'm pretty happy.

All my watches usually go through Legend son that speaks for itself in reality

Quite the contrary my friend, although you will see us step in to stop witch hunts and lynching parties outside the bounds of jurist prudence in such matters best the members decide. How do we know the difference well a wise politician once said (yes at one time there were such people!) in regard to a case on pornography in regard to writing a law on what was and what was not "I know it when I see it".

If he's brought back, how do we go about to contact him? Would making payments through PP be a better alternative due to his track record? Realised that most of the feedback came about circa 2014.

Well, it's great to see democracy rule here rather than the autocratic style of some boards.

@Mike on a bike & @Legend I salute you good sirs :)

And, whilst I didn't know spinmaster, I'd be happy to have him here.

As a mod, I don't want to weigh in here and have folks

Feel that I'm using that to sway the conversation. I can only speak from personal experience. Back a couple of years ago, I owned a couple of spin modified DW Daytonas.. They were well done, ran great and certainly looked good! Lately, he has modded a couple of my AP ROO's as well as my FC diver. Beautiful work and with Legend involved, I don't see how we could go wrong here.

1) So... What did happen when the "beefs" took place according to Spin?

So far it seems that everyone wants an extra modder, especially in Asia. Legend knows him, and he is both a mod and respected contributor and mod. I agree, the more knowledge and custom modders, the better. However depending on what happened, precautions might be taken initially to avoid same mistakes happening again.

Therefore,  @Legend, what did happen according to him?

2) I think that all modders that do work for fun (not living), should get a  sub-thread in the forum. Not saying that they are authorized by RWG, more like harm reduction, because it is and will continue to happen behind the scenes. Luming,  case work, custom parts, assembly... Etc.

We have trusted dealers, why not trusted modders. However since most have other priorities in life and therefore can do only limited amounts of work. Then let's get it out in the open. And to protect members from. scams, a deposit approx 1000€ (or something g proportional to the amount of work done pet month) could be deposited. Its just a  (radical) idea maybe the guys that I visualized are Rolojack, Big Daz. Maybe they aren't even interested in such a thing.

Thank you for your very kind and fair comments. To be honest I do not know what happened exactly, as it happened before my time. All I know is that DW screwed him out of some watches/parts and as a result he couldn't deliver to modded watches to the buyer(s). I honestly do not know how much and how many people were involved then.

I do agree, we should have a trusted modder list, official or otherwise. Whenever money is involved, there should be an indication of the trustworthiness level of the seller (or modder). Good thinking there. Carrying out the qualification could be tougher though, and I guess only through buyer/customer feedback could the modder reputations be built. :)

When I have an opinion (and I'm good as seing "faults" in RWG.cc) I tend to either see it as either worth discussing and explaining or if it's unimportant, just keep my mouth shut.

The strong points with RWG.cc is

- "franken"-mods especially in the Rolex/Tudor, AP and IWC-department.

- chivalry, humbleness and transparency

- few but active members

This should be the core. But theres a lot of good discussions that stay on page 1 a couple of days, and then disappear in the darkness. More stickies... Maybe a guide á la Boneesy on RWI. Vintage/modern Rolex. Vintage/modern IWC etc etc. To avoid the same questions ust being repeated over and over again. The fifth time you write what one should be wary of in QCs for modern Ceramc Submariners... The answers shrink in length. To one day not appear... And the newbie doesn't know why noone is answering his/her thread.

----

Even if it was before your time. If he's a personal accquiantance, wait... even if he wasn't a friend IRL, I consider that your role as a Mod on RWG.cc to sort all the skeletons in the closet, if he's to become a "trusted" or "untrusted" modder.

---

The "precautions", "criteria" are one thing to consder before creating this subforum (or something like that).

Will it be like high value sales that CAVE EMPTOR, and let the market finds its own balance? If so. All members that do mods, even if just a few should fit this criteria. And the customers need to crawl from the shadows and actually take responsability. I'm for direct communication and transparency.

Laatst but not least, there should be a list with not authorised/"trusted" dealers that are very common. This list can also change from time to time. Might be harder to convince a case dealer in Vietnam to join the forum and be active, but if so, then its our responsability.

I'm thinkng new delers on instagram&ebay like dung_chrono; tonnywatches and kane/ruby; all suppliers in the vintage Rolex-forum. Commonly used and how to get in touch with them requires either a thread (because the info isn't "there from the start) or searching the forum properly (which we all know isn't the route most often chosen).

We do have a modder section now much in the cavet emptor manner you mentioned. Keep in mind there is no full time staff per say so without going into detail more vetting than we already do now  not in the cards. We have a bunch of threads here answering questions but noobs seldom read so keep asking same questions over and over, the info is here if effort is put in. I spent many months reading to get basic knowledge just figuring out our language is a job SELS, DW, wrapped, CG, is daunting for a new guy and yes there is a sticky with all the info now! (Not in my time unfortunately) What we are striving for is a community of like minded hobbyist who spend time together not being a easy info source for one hit wonders that are buying one rep and hitting the road.

So what has resulted from this discussion?

trusted modders each with subgroups? Which criteria should be used? Obligatory full personal details to staff? At least been known on the forums and conducting work >1 year?

Which modders do we have then?

- Spinmaster // Asia // ?

- Vac (even if he's rarely here, it's good to compare) // US // Luming, Mods (speciality AP and Panerai)

- Big Daz // UK // Vintage relume, speciality 6538

- Rolojack // Eu //Major case mods on (vintage) Rolex, accepts custom work

- Dirk EU, speciality modern ceramic Rolex

- Mymanmatt // US // Franken Datejusts

-JMB, US, custom cases

- Ruby, US,Reseller of various Vietnam-dials ,cases etc... Accepts custom work.

Please add more...

I don't post much as I try to keep my ears (eyes) open mostly and read the info on all the boards voraciously. I would love to have Spin participating more. From everything I've read, his work is legendary and his pieces are rare and highly sought after. Seems he enjoys and specializes on some mods that others don't or won't. Seems like he also had been a victim when DW passed his problems down the line. It's almost impossible to absorb a loss when you do something for the love of it and a supplier takes money but can't deliver anymore, and when done for enjoyment, one does not impose a markup to absorb these things.

I can relate as I did the same thing in the early days of computers and high end audio (mid '80s early 90s) when I had the time and knowledge to help friends and acquaintances out before availability exploded. Fortunately for me, all my suppliers were reliable and legit.

I'm all for bringing Spin back. The DW fiasco which went down a few years back was unfortunate- I know quite a few people were burned and if Spin was one of them, I'm not surprised, and certainly wouldn't hold it against him. Back in the days Spin's work was highly praised from what I saw.
